I'm nearly finished with this and this is easily the second worst game by Supermassive. The first still being The Casting of Frank Stone. The narrative choice to jump ahead, jump back, takes away from any idea of tension or urgency when dealing with things that take place in this.
Additionally, none of the characters are likeable or intelligent. They'll see something, you'll go to tell the crew and they'll bring it up to maybe one or two people. Everyone else they'll have conversations about nonsense. It's absolutely infuriating. There was a moment whereDid anyone even bother to contact him? Nope. Is it ever explained? Nope. Does he ever ask? Nope. It's done literally for no reason. And this kind of sh!t is consistent throughout. Characters will see/experience all kinds of weird sh!t and either never bring it up, bring it up in an aside manner like it's not important or someone will immediately dismiss what they say and all is forgotten. "This is fine," while the room is on fire starting to form in your mind yet? It's so infuriating I was literally yelling at the screen. Tell me this was written by a tumbler writer without telling me they were a tumbler writer. Every time I got a note to check the text messages, I physically cringed. "Take time to stop playing to read what I just wrote you." Or, or you could talk to me over coms like a normal f*cking human being. These characters are insufferable.
The rest of these characters are nearly as unlikable and come off as so unnatural in their positions too.Every character is written so monumentally stupid right from the start. But it's fine. No need to be concerned. Should they check on the? Nope. No need. The "this is fine" meme is literally embodied in this game at a later point and nothing could better describe the writing.
So, yeah the story is trash. Like Syfy originals trash, clearly written by someone incapable of abstraction or logical thought. Look, I agree that some situations need a bit of flexibility to get away with horror elements, but … this is asking too much of their audience to ignore blatantly obvious routes. This is only made worse by the insistence of stealth throughout. And I love stealth gameplay. But this was time wasting garbage designed around padding the playtime. Nothing here is enjoyable and frankly everything overstays their welcome.
Anyway, in an effort to not make this review any longer, because trust me I could keep going, I'll end it here. Do not buy this game. Go play the original Dark Pictures games and leave this where it belongs. In your wishlist until it hits a deep deep discount.
absolute dog sh!t writing. Are we sure this wasn't written by ChatGPT? What the hell did I just watch? So if you're curious the only way to get the "good" ending is byBoy what a sacrificial bunch we have here. And oh God, does the dialogue and character decisions get worse. At one point I sat there flabbergasted by some of this. You could absolutely MST3K the sh!t out of this game. I actually laughed outload because it was so f*cking dumb. I don't ever want to see this putrid mess again. Whomever wrote this, I suggest you do everyone a favor and NEVER WRITE ANYTHING YOU THINK IS CLEVER OR CREATIVE AGAIN, because it's not. Nor will it ever be.(ᕑᗢूᓫ∗)
