I've been observing that I'm not the only one on the 'beria on a constant and mostly failed journey to try to make new connections, online and offline, and not in a romantic sense. Let's post our successes/failures/observations here.
>parties/clubs
Have had good times but never made any new contacts.
>Twitter, Bluesky and other knock-offs
Cool in principle because you can find people with very specific tastes, sense of humor, etc. but most of them don't want to interact with lowbies which kind of sours the vibe for me. The whole "community" just started feeling fake.
>Discord
Most promising venue so far because if you're able to join a server at all, it probably is at least a bit welcoming to newcomers, but it's hard to find places with the right feel and the right crowd. Public servers all suck and finding private servers is a crapshoot.
Synagogues
i made friends w my coworkers but theyre all high school grads. FUCK I WISH I WAS A OFFICE SLAVE(no i dont)
how do you even find discord servers.
the ones ive tried joining are too active and most of the channels are spammed by teenagers attentionwhoring with le quirky edgy humour to the point where you cant even keep up. its like twitch chat
>i had sex… with a CAT!!! i set fire… to a homeless man!!! im wanted for war crimes in bosnia!!!
<oh my god that is so fricking funny because these are things youre not supposed to do!!! bruhh if my mom read that i would be SO in trouble!!!
>hey guys, im a WOMAN, and i do boy thing, like playing le videogame!
<wow, milady, step on me mommy hahaha
>ermmm… awkward much?
>>791916Don't bother with online shit, you can't make real friends on there.
The best way is trought people you have regular contact, if clubs didn't work, then you should just try with coworkers.
I don't really have any friends
>>791916Have you tried going on Barq? Or finding your local furmeet?
>>791926I've just been looking up servers related to some of my interests, like certain games or content creators. The key is to find something niche but not so niche that there's only like five people. Also on places like Letterboxd or RYM people sometimes branch off to form small subcommunities on Discord, some of them are cool and not too cliquey despite how it may seem.
>>791927I work from home so that doesn't work for me. I'm kinda just trying anything at this point.
