>>796682I think it’s related to the general Latinx’s inferiority complex towards Anglos and Nordics which leads them to overcompensate for the general dysfunction and poverty in LatAm by exaggerating the proportion of “European genes” they have cuz of “mejorar la raza” as well as overemphasising their Catholic faith (which they rarely adhere to beyond performative displays of religiousness).
Either that, or boast about “hybrid vigour” as if outbreeding depression doesn’t exist at all LOL
But yh, said inferiority complex also leads them towards bigotry towards Jews and non-whites not from LatAm (even the Chinese, but mostly directed towards black people) to comical extent since even Dominicans partake in it, and the average Dominican has a complex over their whiteness which they use to claim superiority over black people like Haitians and African Americans, compared to Puerto Ricans who are more chill since they don’t have as much of a complex over it, which is why between Dominicans and Puerto Ricans the latter intermingles with African Americans more than the former.
As to the origin of this inferiority complex? I think it all comes down to Latin America’s own racial hierarchy where whiteness is pedestalised at the expense of indigenous and African communities, as shown by how the notions of “racial democracy” and “mestizaje” are often betrayed by the social realities of wealth inequality which is so racialised that you can easily predict the average Latinx’s wealth based on their skin color, as well as the existence of gated communities across the region and how to this day much of the Latinx elite (from its celebrities to its leadership) is overwhelmingly made up of white people. In fact, you’d be hardpressed to find any indigenous American or Afro-Latino in any position of prominence outside of sports and entertainment.
Now, this isn’t to say that Latinx themselves haven’t tried to solve this as the various communist and pink tide governments in the region tried to remedy this via policy-making, some substantial (like post-junta Brazil instituting affirmative action, especially for higher education) while others are performative (like Bolivarian Venezuela renaming Columbus Day to make it more inclusive for indigenous peoples in Venezuela).
But yh, racial hierarchies geared towards white supremacy hasn’t gone away despite all the performative anti-racism that serves to mask deep-rooted racism, and the average Neo-Nazi and white supremacist online being a Latinx is downstream from the inferiority complex generated by said racial hierarchy.
That is why I never really bought into the whole “Latinos are POCs” talking point: As someone who knows Chicano and broader Latin American sociology, it’s just a fact that the notion of Latinos being “POC” is a recent phenomenon owing itself to Chicano activists trying to rake into the benefits of the civil rights revolution that was mostly focused on African Americans, as well as modern revisionism by race hustling Latinx who try to insert themselves into American history as “POCs” when throughout much of American history most Latinx deemed themselves as white ethnics with all of them falling either into the white or colored side of the color line of racial segregation.
I think this goes to show how race really is socially constructed and contingent more on class than any biological reality, considering how Latinx in the USA are trying to ascend to whiteness and turning into the new crakkkas after the faltering of the “woke” era, whereas previously many Chicano activists insisted upon being considered “POCs” as back then being white was “uncool”, but now that MAGA is trying to invert that you have Latinx returning to their standard roots of white maximalism.
Same goes with East Asians, whose success as the “model minority” in the USA owe less to some innate character in them and more to how they never really faced actual segregation (especially as most of them lived in coastal states where segregation wasn’t as harsh as that in the south if not non-existent) and due to right circumstances (e.g., Japanese Americans being released during the 1950s economic boom, the southeast Asians during the IT boom of the 1990s, etc…) which allows East and southeast Asian Americans to be the petit bourgeois in American society and thus access to the upper class (mystified in the American context as “whiteness”), hence why many of them like Andy Ngo, Michelle Malkin, Arthur Kwon-Lee are demented rightoids that propagate and consume shit-tier chudslop or libtards like George Takei, and why Japanese Americans are the most assimilated of all non-white American groups.
TL;DR: Class status anxiety is what drives many Latinx like Mexicans towards Neo-Nazism and other parasocial relationships with the far-right. Some are grifters tho.
