What is the leftoid opinion on the Great War?

i think it was bad

>>801105
The cause for the war gets over-mystified considering perfidious Allemagne was the prime mover.

>>801105
Interimperialist war

i think the allies were justified and needed to contain the expansionist authoritarian german regime and the imperialist austrian empire that has been oppressing the south slavic peoples and the italians

Wasn't that great. Although at least Nazi Germany died.
>b-but opera-
I know. It could have been worse.

The Great Satan, England, should have been annihilated. Gott Strafe England.

>>801125
Ok but the Allies were doing the same thing so.. where is the logic in this?

The Great Orthodox Rus', liberator of the Slavic peoples tortured under Nemtsy-Vengrian-Osman triple yoke, the British enforcers of rules-based International Law and civilization, and the French languishing under the torturous Allemand occupation of beautiful Lorraine, were not equal to the evil bloodthirsty Germs and Ottoman Muslim infestations in Europe.

>>801135
Most of these nations colonized and did the same thing as the other, there is no 'good guy' in this, Anon..

>>801105
the SPD betrayed the working class by not committing hard enough to the german war effort

>>801105
Second worst tragedy facing humanity but the silver lining was USSR rising from the ashes of war.

>>801138
Critical support for anti-imperialist German Empire.

  1. it was bad
  2. there's an ominous trend in britain and perhaps elsewhere of revising the "pointless slaughter for stupid reasons" narrative that used to be common in pop culture + the general solemn and respectful nature of remembrance day (our holiday to commemorate the end of the war) and turning it into another "they died for our FREEDOM, join the army so you can be a martyr TOO" WW2 type thing, which seems less like respectable historical revisionism about the allies being the best of a bad lot or the casualties being the result of technological change rather than callous generals, and more of a nasty undertone of "the wrong side lost WW2 so we need a new conflict to idolise."

see also the obscene and ridiculous transformation of remembrance poppies from something solemn to something ludicrously pompous (fire them at a tank! drop them from a bomber! paint them on a fighter jet!) and occasionally outright obscene (from "lest we forget" to "future soldier" (!!!!) in just a century.)

It was basically the inevitable conclusion of colonialism, all of the colonial powers ate everything up so had no choice but to fight each other.

anti imperialist axis of resistance led by germany fighting agaisnt the imperialist west

>>801159
I remember only 20 years ago when I was a kid 'pointless slaughter' was basically the official narrative in education, now as you say we have this creepy revisionism repainting it as a just and necessary war

>>801280
Sorry I'm just basically saying what you said again, but I mean that I've definitely noticed it too
