Combine sugar, water and a mild acid (lemon juice or vinegar for example) in a 4:1:1 ratio. Slowly boil the mixture until it turns light brown. Finally pour the liquid into a shallow container with a wide opening.
If the cooled liquid isn't pliable enough, reheat slightly and stir in a small quantity of water. If it's not sticky enough, boil it again and wait for the sugar to caramelize further.
