It was a really great film. As a massive enjoyer of the poem I loved this film and I think it excelled with both its visuals and sound and the twist of it being about like a soldier's guilt is kind of interesting considering it is an amerikkkan film, however it was really effective emotionally in the film and I just enjoyed it a lot. I do think they should have included Phaeaicia and Nausicaa since that was important in the story. Having the Greeks coming back from Troy being the sea people was a good twist / not so much of a twist if you know about the bronze age. It was both sincere but it also updated the story for the modern day. As for the costumes, well the poem was anachronistic anyway.

Case in point: I've yet to see a lefty or radlib produce something as egregious as The Patriot.
But all this shit is bad. You should care about historical accuracy and authenticity and making a historical film as accurate and authentic as reasonably possible. Hell, further than that, you should also make adaptations of other works as faithful to the source material as possible.

It's a movie about America and Americans. That's why it has an interracial cast. That is why he included the bronze age collapse and sea peoples as themes of the movie. The bronze age collapse is a metaphor for the end of our age. Agamemnon's armies recast as the sea peoples are a metaphor for the US empire and its aircraft carriers.

I noticed in terms of effort put into historical accuracy you have a spectrum ranging from Barry Lyndon, where Kubrick commissioned the invention of new types of lenses to film indoor candlelit scenes, all the way to something like Gladiator which is full of silly historical liberties meant to entertain. The question is how worth it is it to divert a significant part of your budget to historical accuracy that only a small portion of the target audience will appreciate, especially if it detracts from the entertainment. You don't want to spend a large part of your budget on shit nobody cares about but nerds who are too smart to buy a ticket anyway. Nerds who pirate. That's another thing. It's important to remember that their target audience are people who actually buy the tickets and show up in the early screening test audiences. Not the people who stay in their houses, pirate the movie, and complain about historical accuracy of nonwhites appearing in greece or the armor not looking like a cylindrical bronze trash can.
It is silly to complain about historical accuracy of the movie Christopher Nolan made. There is no pretense of that in the movie, it is full-on fantasy, some of the armor designs look straight out of Warcraft. Yes I would like adaptation what tries to be as "authentic" as possible, but that is a fundamentally a different movie from this one.

So it has a date, and the artifacts we have found reflect that time and place.

There is no end to crucifixion paintings from the 14th-16th cenuries with Jesus Jesus, his disciples, pontinus pilate, and roman soldiers dressed and looking like Rennaisance era Europeans. Anachronism is a tool.
