Yes. And I only started using this image board in 2018 or so and I started making posts in 2023 and really picked up on posting from 2025 till now. I really haven't had friends for much of my life and I'm 42. I mostly just sit around and come to this website and go to to work.

I actively avoid making online friends, hence why I prefer using anonymous imageboards. Its just another anxiety, another relationship to maintain, more people to dissapoint. I would like to make some IRL though. Would be nice to have people I could hang out and do stuff with.
As for where to find online friends, I recently started playing an MMO and new players tend to seek out gaming buddies, so maybe you could try that.

Also your best years are behind you in the sense of youthful fun, unless you’re still single or freshly divorced and still in shape and have hobbies

There’s no such thing as “best years” anyway in the biochronological sense.
Not everyone has the opportunity to live it up in their teens and twenties.

NTA and not as old as him but closeish, and I started using imageboards in 2016 just because 4chan suddenly became culturally relevant with the 2016 election and the "meme wars." Before that I always looked down on them as a waste of time and only used smaller messageboards. I've made real friends I keep up with to this day off of messageboards. I thought anonymous imageboards are stupid and a waste of time because you aren't making any connections or networking. Now here I am 10 years later when they're not really culturally relevant again just wasting my time. I made like one friend off leftypol I talk to regularly and have met up with off leftypol in all that time.

I really don't know. I think you just need to find a smaller community where people have accounts and usernames. People here aren't really looking to make friends or relationships that's why it's all anonymous. People who don't follow the rules of anonymity are looked down upon and bullied(not that anons aren't just that being a known entity is like wearing a kick me sign.) Also people on imageboards tend to be paranoid, especially on leftypol where everyone thinks the government is chasing them down like they're at the top of the FBI's most wanted for posting Marx memes, and longwinded arguments about capital accumulation or whatever.

Hot take:most imageboards need to be purged and reset.

That's when I heard about leftypol. So I came to check it out and I guess I generally liked it. There were times in 2023 and 2024 when I felt that I was going to stop coming but I've ended up spending more time here than expected. I guess a large part of the user base seems similar to me in many ways so I keep coming back. It's like an image board is really the only place I'd ever like to meet most of you and that's mainly because I try to be guarded about who I let into my life. I don't really want to intertwine my life too much with other people even if it feels lonely and depressing at times. So this is kind of a form of relatively low risk socializing.

I have no idea how people actually get internet friends. I wasted my life in imageboards.

This. It’s better to be depressed and lonely from solitude than from getting involved with people. I feel more depressed and lonely spending too much time around people and especially made worse when I have to chauffeur them around and I get no privacy or security to zone out.
