This has nothing to do with industrialization or colonialism, for it's a process that took place thousands of years before that. The megafauna of Africa was used to coexisting with humans for millenia. When humans started rapidly expanding to other continents, their respective megafauna wasn't used to humans and they just couldn't catch up.
