At any rate, to address your original point, Bakunin wasn't wrong that Marxist states tended towards autocracy in the 20th century. However he was wrong about why this happened and what the significance of this way for socialism. If a bourgeois state can give up bourgeois democracy (e.g. to a fascist regime) without giving up its class character, then it stands to reason that a proletarian state can do the same.
