Neoliberal ideas were basically correct and even good but neoliberals themselves were a mixture of sociopaths, sadists, and selfish bastards so they undermined themselves. The implementation of neoliberalism was even more bungled than that of Keynesianism, but almost all the worst parts of the status quo could be resolved within a neoliberal framework if it had been done correctly.
(Not that this would lead to the end of history. That's still communism. But we'd get there faster.)
