the years you "waste" hanging out online, discovering weird shit and interacting with freaky strangers who'd be frightening to meet in real life are, for most of us, the only parts of life that are actually real. everything that comes after is just even more vapid. everyone who settles down and becomes a responsible adult is living life completely on autopilot. they learn nothing, do nothing interesting and don't evolve in any way. they're "happy" because they have stability and a family, but their lives are finished and the only change and excitement comes from their children whose vitality they attempt to vicariously experience. but even then, it amounts to being side characters. the real stuff is not being lived by them. their lives are like a book that's 1000 pages long but has said everything it has to say by the halfway point.
even the most boring white-bread people you know display some passion and vitality and have real experiences in their youth, if only because they don't know what they're doing and haven't had time to fully internalize life-numbing ideas and behaviors. inexperience forces them to do things wrong and end up at least occasionally off the beaten path. that doesn't mean it's pleasant or fun, but it's vivid. life is transformation, stagnation is death.
the only people over the age of 35 who are truly alive are the great artists, leaders and criminals, and most of them are insane and horrible people.
