If I couldn't drink, smoke weed, or even vape, I don't understand how my whole life wouldn't basically fall apart. It's a miracle I can even live independently and work full-time. Is there any practical solution besides "it's all your fault kill yourself"?

Why do you need sobriety exactly?

>>832834
I guess that's my question as well. Probably so I can live past 40, but I'm not even really sure I care about that.

I don't drink/smoke and I've barely done drugs and I just cope with vidya and sometimes gooning. I guess there's the side effect of developing unrealistic expectations for men/women but I guess it's still somewhat healthier.

>If I couldn't drink, smoke weed, or even vape, I don't understand how my whole life wouldn't basically fall apart.

that's just because you're used to it, you've been doing it a long time so it's hard to comprehend what your life would be without it. but you were a kid for a long time, many years, and you weren't drinking or smoking in all that time and your life didn't fall apart, even in spite of the fact that you had the sensitive mind of a child where even the most minor anxieties felt like end-of-the-world catastrophes.

there's a great documentary called "dark days" about this homeless squatter community in nyc who lived underground in an abandoned subway tunnel in perpetual darkness with rats everywhere and all the rest of it, and in the opening scene one of the squatters says "you'd be surprised what the human mind and the human body can adjust to" and that is probably one of the most important pieces of human wisdom i've ever heard, a lot more meaningful than empty braindead platitudes like "it will get better" and "you can do anything you put your mind to".

we are extremely myopic when it comes to ourselves and our own abilities, we have a terrible sense of what we are capable of or what we have done in the past or what we might do in the future, when it comes to ourselves all we can really sense is right now because right now is so incredibly overwhelming at this distance, and everything outside of that just seems drowned out and irrelevant and unreal to us.

Just play videogames uygha drop the alcohol and like eat icecream and smoke weed.

You should probably stop vaping nicotine and drinking, that shit is only making you more miserable and killing your brain cells. That being said, congrats on being able to survive despite everything

Start by fixing this.

another thing, we often think that if we can't imagine something then we cannot do it, but if you think about it, a lot of the shit we do in life we do without thinking about it at all, we just muddle through and improvise, and our ability to do this, our flex, is probably just as important and powerful and defining a human trait as our intellect. and we are terrible at recognizing this ability because we don't like to think that we aren't really in control of everything in our lives and that we're just careening down the highway with a stuck accelerator pedal narrowly dodging death at every moment.

you hear this in interviews all the time, interviewers always ask questions like "how did you get started" or "what was the plan" or "where do you get your ideas from" and the interviewee is usually baffled and never has any real answers for these questions and just says that it all just sort of happened, they just did whatever they were doing and ran with it. or you sometimes hear people who are total egomaniac control freaks who try to pretend like they deliberately and completely orchestrated everything good that ever happened in their lives when it is obviously that wasn't the case and there was a tremendous amount of muddling through and dumb luck that got them to where they are.

but the point is, you don't necessarily need to be able to conceive of something to do it, you don't need to have a plan or a blueprint or a structured regimen that you must follow to the letter for the rest of your life, and this kind of thinking can often be worse than useless in certain situations, where it paralyzes you and stops you from being able to do anything. to paraphrase alan watts, if you're an alcoholic it is paralyzing to think about the prospect of not having another drink for the rest of your life and having to get through thousands of days without a drink, that's a horrible thing to have to think about and it completely overwhelms you and makes you feel utterly powerless. but if you don't think about it at all, if you sidestep your own ego and just muddle through and improvise and stay in the present moment, then it's not nearly so terrible because you're not confronting all the future boredom and stress and anxiety that surely awaits you, you're just confronting the pain that you are feeling right now and all you have to do is just endure the present pain and let it fall on you and let yourself be miserable and eventually it will pass or you will get used to it.

I hate this shit, for my psychs are just a fun time, I've never had any kind of breath through. If anything the lack of sleep you get after an LSD binge gives me a hangover.

I'm the same, only a revolutionary situation would make me stop

thank you anon, i feel like this applies to a lot of things in my life and reading this feels important. maybe it won't be useful at all but i think many times random ideas i read end up being relevant later even when they're not obvious then. these posts seem relevant to this adaptability which i find sometimes allowing me to fall into bad habits >>832599 >>832600

being sober doesn't work if you can't make your life better by doing it, I became sober for 6 months, realized my life is still shit because jobs don't pay and high paying jobs aren't hiring, then went back to weed.

drugs are only a consequence of a bad economy, give me a good economy that actually pays me fairly for my efforts (ie communism) and I will be sober for real.

if i can't be drunk
i don't wanna be alive
if i can't be drunk
i don't wanna be alive
oh i work all day
and if i don't drink
i'm gonna beat my wife
if i can't be drunk
i don't wanna be alive

You could get your weed in in a way that does not destroy your lungs, like edibles or whatever.

Just have a moderate amount of sobriety. Vaping isn't even that bad for you, and the other two, consume in moderation.
