I prefer dark hair but I get with blondes sometimes anyway. Hair color is not a very important factor for me.

the best answer is because of the same reason people like blue and green eyes and redhair and act wierd about preserving them, its a rare trait, comes rarely unless few people are born from parents having it, only 2% (naturals) of the world have it which furthers the exoticism. and it darkens as you get older, its all rarity and the fact it comes hard in movies and culture as a sign of youth.
