>>835632I think that is the right call today for societies in europe, east asia, etc. But you have to remember that in many of these societies in the 20th century, and many societies today, organized religion had very significant economic and political influence. The Catholic Church was the largest landowner in Hungary, and Mindszenty used his expansive influence to say that anyone who worked with Communists would be excommunicated. In that scenario, that's not just a Church asking for donations so they can put a "God loves you!" billboard up. These are serious threats that originate with how powerful the religious body is, thus demanding serious curtailment. In Vietnam, the founder of Hoa Hao was under the protection of Japan, then was a diehard anti-Communist who declared the Viet Minh to be more of a danger than France, and declared a Holy War against them. What do you do in that case? In this case, Vietnam actually banned them until their organization became more palatable in the 90s.
Now, hoping religion will magically go away by just banning it is a joke, but its not like there's some universal blueprint that we can just type out, you need to analyse the situation of organized religion in your nation.
