Yeah it's sad what Dragon Ball has devolved into. It didn't used to be this bad, the fights were entertaining, there was some nice drama and heartfelt moments, cool themes, pervy moments, excellent worldbuilding, awesome Toriyama art, etc. of course it had problems (like Goku never maturing into a responsible person with a purpose other than "get stronger" and "have fun") but that's besides the point. Super meanwhile? The only thing I could praise is the occasional cool soundtrack, that's literally it.

I just watched dragon ball super for the first time. I "binged" the entire thing every night for the past 2 months.
The first two arcs are boring and drag on for too long which is to be expected since they were written as movies.
Goku Black's arc has a great soundtrack but the plot doesn't make any fucking sense; there are some cool fights here and there though, and LE MYSTERY adequately carries half of the saga.
Now for the hot take: the Universe Survival arc is awful. Dragon Ball has never been coherent with power levels (which all things considered is mostly autism, but still), however this arc not only ignores any notion of them existing but actively contradicts them ever being relevant (bro android 17 is as strong as a god because he destroys tanks on a remote island LOOL).
Fanwank aspergers aside, the first half is incredibly superfluous and, even worse, boring. We know all these guys are going into the tournament and we all know what they can do, the only swerve is Frieza getting in at the cost of Buu getting done dirty, which sucks massive dick because Buu has a really entertaining fight ""style"" compared to the rest of the more orthodox cast. IMO Frieza should've taken Roshi's place because the old master has no business being in that tournament, the man gets throughly btfo by dragon ball era Ten Shin Han, who's shown to be a massive load in the tournament despite dedicating his entire life to training martial arts, all the while Roshi faps on his island yet he's somehow stronger thanTtien; Piccolo can also perform the Mafuba so we don't need Roshi to get that technique in.
Then in the tournament itself, the battle royale part is the worst kind of filler: battle filler, and with a gallery of retarded enemies we know nothing about too (base Kefla looked really cool I'll admit).
The final showdown between U7 vs U11 is when things finally pick up yet the >muh strategy angle is kinda dropped here too in favour of standard shonen asspulls despite being the part where strategy would've mattered the most, since Jiren and Top are stupidly and unreasonably overpowered, yet Top gets taken out by a chump in a 1v1 without any iota of reason, so it's "funny" that they only apply strategy against Dispo who is easily the weakest out of the three and could probably get btfo by Goku alone.
And don't get me started on Jiren's backstory, shit's so cliché, boring and nonsensical it's incredibly fitting that the entire thing is narrated by a literal clown; I mean that had to be on purpose lol.
Finally, the filler stuff was actually very entertaining and the highlight of the entire anime but overall it's a retarded series don't watch dragon ball z, gt nor super ever.
>shonenshit
Yeah, yeah I know I'm just too hooked on dragon ball fighterz so why the fuck not.

Allow a black voice to explain, you see, growing up in the hood. There wasn't a lot of stuff to do apart from playing outside or playing batman. TVs were good as tables, unless you actually had a satellite dish then it was pointless. Let me tell you, having one of those was a sign of wealth. Parents spent a pretty penny on those things… I think that's when my childhood actually started. So what do you have to watch? The genetic 5 news, old star trek reruns and fx movies. Lame, lame and triple lame. But there was a savior amongst us… channel 170. The almighty, nickelodeon. I still remember the channel number to this day. It's burned into my brain from writing it so much. Wonder pets, penguins of Madagascar and fanboy and chum chum… don't get me wrong. Those were pretty good. But there was this one spectacular show that brought the whole gang together and we forgot our differences. Dragon ball Z Kai. The story of a kid from another world fighting evil and collecting dragon balls. I fell in love with anime ever since I discovered it. Even our parents would join along in the watch parties. We began in the emperor pilaf arc, to the saiyan arc to the popular frieza arc, and all the way to the cell games and finally the majin buu arc. God, I still look back to those days fondly. How many times has Goku had to train harder to surpass his limits. I still admire the guy to this day. His cheerful personality and strong demeanor was a sparkle for hope for me. A lot of my mexican buddies really liked that show. I remember this one guy, Felix. He streamed the dbz movies on his phone and he handed me a head bud. Yes, I did spend lunch watching gbz and pokemon movies. Yes, it was awesome.
>>Who the hell is even the target audience for this cringeworthy shitshow these days? I'm seriously curious. It's something you had to experience at the moment. I would go as far to say it's in our culture now. DBZ has been with me. The fans of the old still watch dragon ball because we could never abandon it, not when it's done so much for us. 'll never forget it. Amway's wondering what was going to happen. Roleplaying the dbz fights with my friends behind my house. All my friends giving our energy to goku lol. Even as I attempted to explain it to you. You won't truly understand because you just had to go into dbz without knowing what it was. Sitting with your friends with a bowl of potato chips on a Saturday morning. This comrade missed out on the best anime ever… I won't lie to you, comrade. It's a little concerning that the new generation of weebs are a lot like you. To disrespect the anime before you as "cringe" and "stupid." You ever think about the strangeness of DBS's Mirai Trunks and Future Mai pairing? To explain, Mai is a character from the original Dragon Ball Z back in the first Season literally, and roughly of the same age as Bulma. She got de-aged at one point in Super I think, but as a personality she's still the same mental age as Bulma by that point in the alternate Zamasu future. Future Trunks at that time is Chronologically 30 and Biologically 32 (due to Time-Chamber shenanigans), Bulma is nearly 2x that at 62 and Mai is supposed to be Biologically 30 in that future, but chronologically she is 60 (She's chronologically 41 and Biologically 11 during the God of Destruction Beerus Saga, 19 years before the Future Zamasu timeline). So basically she's mentally 2x Trunk's age. I don't knock it, but it's kinda funny to realize.

My belief has always been that 18 is partly there to fill in the void left by Launch. They're both beautiful blonde's living at Kame house, with a troubled past and a mean streak. Both characters are voiced by the same actress in the funimation dub (Meredith McCoy). Clearly there is a strong connection between the two, even though they never meet. In fact, I think that's exactly why they never meet, because they are too similar. That's why 18 replaced Launch. I also believe that the romance between 18 and Krillin is the belated resolution of the failed romance arch between Launch and Tien. Of course I can't prove that, but we all have to try and make sense of Toriyama's chaotic brain somehow and I haven't heard any better theories.
>There is no actual connection between Launch and 18!
When I say that 18 is there to replace Launch, I mean that from the perspective of trying to unravel Toriyama's "subconscious". Toriyama didn't consciously replace Launch with 18, neither did he have the Tien-Launch romance consciously in mind when he made 18 and Krillin a couple. What I'm saying is that this is something he did without realizing it. Additionally, I do think there is a deeper similarity between the characters themselves. Both Launch and 18 are typically rather cold/stand-offish and only show their soft side at rare moments. They were both delinquents/criminals in the past. That's what I meant by "mean streak". They both have a sadistic side as well, not just a temper like ChiChi and Bulma do. Their relationship with master Roshi and the Z fighters is also similar. And it's definitely not true that almost every character lived at Kame house the way Krillin, 18 and Launch did, taking more or less permanent residence there.
No.15084
>>15083Fan theories aside the real reason Toriyama forgot Launch existed is because he forgets shit all of the time and is an awful, repetitive and tropey writer. He forgot about Chi-Chi for most of Dragon Ball before shoving her into a pseudo-shotgun wedding near the end with a mentally challenged boy.
