These two are supposed to be the Citizen Kane of anime, everyone loves them, yet they are such fucking garbage, literal trash, why are they so fucking bad holy shit.
And I watched it when I was a kid and even then I HATED it, I had a friend who also watched DBZ and he hated it too, even we who were just two little dumbass kids could recognize how shit this cartoon was. And dont get me started on Super.
Naruto is just as bad if not worse, they somehow contradict their own message every god damn time, and have a little privileged retarded kid as the main character who was born with le epic god powers, and never works a day in his life to achieve anything, its all just handed to him

LMAO nice bait lol

Dragon Ball and its sequels were stupid but it was never intended to be more than a silly fighting show, though it did decline after the Cell Arc and the entire concept of aliens and power levels fucked up future story arcs since none of the existing characters except Vegeta and Goku really mattered anymore.

Naruto is a bit flawed but largely excellent, I've stated my thoughts on it in the Naruto thread. Boruto on the otherhand is a trashfire full of good concepts and ideas buried under bad story telling and direction by pedomoto.

Bleach was boring to me because the MC was simultaneously "too cool for this shit" and at the same time an utter goody twoshoes, which didn't vibe with me. OST was excellent and early Bleach was still pretty good, but it became a power-up show really fast, to an extent that (in some ways) it outdid DBZ in terms of bullshit powerups, by the EoS Ichigo is the most Gary Stue character of the story and one of the biggest in shonen.

One Piece is good but Post-TimeSkip lost alot of what made it so good originally. It's still got its moments and the latest Gear 5 episodes were hype as fuck, but its not the greatest, although considering that its original intent was similar to Dragon Ball (an adventure action story with a simpleton of a protagonist that never gives up) it makes sense that it's not high art.

HxH is over-rated and I never really liked it. The Chunin exams were a fun Naruto Arc, but Hunter x Hunter feels like the Chunin Exams except it never ends.

Baki The Grappler is fucking trash. I don't like Jojo but I can get why its so memed and popular. Baki is like Rob Leifeld on steroids; a perfect story for people that think Joe Rogan is unironically an enlightened intellectual.

It reads like it's written by a schizo with nonsensical plotlines coming one after another. The story is LITERALLY one long pissing contest between ego driven meatheads with no redeeming factors, no depth or anything to latch on to its basically "Miami South Beach meathead drama in manga form". Even though it tries to come off as "realistic" and "manly" the fighting itself is nonsensical with no basis in reality (Kengan Ashura did it better), a midget who does fucking Aikido is one of the strongest guys, and there's another resurrected samurai that can slice people with his forearm for some reason. Don't even get me started on the artstyle with those veiny horse-hoof feet and horrendous muscle proportions, if people think Boruto or Dragon Ball Super has messed up proportions, open up a page of Baki. It's like if someone asked their 12 year old to draw a G.I Joe.

TL;DR: The whole manga is like if someone was told to make a story about Chuck Norris memes.

The combination of it beeing over the top and taking itself to serious does make it pretty funny

Restoring the two image files

People who hate DBZ and people who love DBZ should read the original Kid Goku Arcs. It's superior to Z in every way

Unpopular opinion: most of the Boruto hate is because of nostalgia bias.
All the criticism against Boruto are the same flaws found in Shippuden.

Power scaling? That was in Naruto.
People complaining about aliens and tech when they had that in Naruto

Also, Boruto has an interesting new cast of characters. They didn’t just rely on the main character.

But people wanna compare the new kids to their parents far too much.

The people who complain about Boruto focusing far too much on the main character are the same people who glaze Sasuke and Naruto, wanting them to be the main focus in the generational sequel.

>>3205
Naruto focused primarily on the main character and his social interactions with his fellow shinobi.
Sasuke was the only other character to be given a good chunk of screen time other than Naruto.

Everyone else was cannon fodder for the plot

>>3212
>Bakugou is also a bad rip-off of Sasuke in many regards as well as a waste of character. he has the potential to be a villainous hero with his attitude towards other people who are weaker and his murderous intent. Honestly it's a waste, what with the diverse powers and characters like Stain and the recently defeated Yakuza. It's why I dropped the series outside

Baku go was supposed to be an asshole friend rather than a villain.
Also, Todoroki is more the proper analogue to Sasuke, being born in a perfectionist family and having clashed with the main character before finally seeing sense and becoming a good friend

>>3235

>an asshole friend
What kind of asshole friend tells you to kill yourself and in the way its depicted too? Throughout the story he's a literal menace that gets treated as a joke outside of combat because "haha, angry dude is threatening to kill us again!" I posted it in the BnHA thread but the entire Bakugou-Deku relationship is like an abuser and a battered housewife, they're mostly toxic but the latter can't help but be drawn to the source of their pain. >>14478
Vegeta started off as a villain. Sasuke became a villain before he started doing really fucked up shit (and its in the context of a more violence-normalized society compared to BnHA).
>Todoroki
I can agree there, but the set up makes Bakugou to be the main rival to Deku in the same way Vegeta and Sasuke were for Goku and Naruto.

Absolute garbage take
While some aspects like power creep and 'scaling' existed in Naruto, it was far more low-key and not absolute. Power alone rarely made a difference. Unique techniques or ways that power was applied mattered more overall.
> Boruto has an interesting new cast of characters. They didn’t just rely on the main character.
One, because Boruto is boring as fuck as a character from his name to his attitude to his appearance. Two, No. Just like in Naruto its the anime that expands on other characters more, except that the side-characters are all useless save for Sarada and Bort and the mary sue fanfic OCs that now populate the roster.
>eople who complain about Boruto focusing far too much on the main character are the same people who glaze Sasuke and Naruto, wanting them to be the main focus in the generational sequel.
Because the end of Naruto is them becoming literal demi-gods and Naruto achieving his idyllic dream of uniting the Shinobi world in peace, all retconned by Boruto and in a poor fashion. If Naruto and Sasuke were beaten in ways that were believable instead of them just being retarded or if the story took place after they died and so when there's an opening for strife to actually mean something, or hell just find a way for Naruto and Sasuke to leave the planet to hunt Otsutsukis or something that would be more believable. It's inane to have the MAIN CHARACTERS and fan-favorites of the original and then just fuck them over. At least JJK avoided that with its sequels but that's a different kettle of fish.

>>30501
>One, because Boruto is boring as fuck as a character from his name to his attitude to his appearance.

How is he boring in his appearance and name?

>muh Mary Sue OCs

You’re kidding right?
Explain. The Naruto anime focused a lot on Naruto and Sasuke. It only focused more on other characters in Shippuden and even then mainly as flashback arcs in relation to the main character.
All the side characters in Naruto were useless. Rock Lee was treated like trash with only his recovery arc from his fight with Gaara.
Hinata was treated as shrinking violet who was afraid to fight. Neji was a cool character that was killed last minute.
Itachi was killed from cancer or something.

If you wanna talk about Mary Sue OCs, let’s talk about Sasuke, Madara, Orochimaru, hell even Naruto himself.

>Absolute garbage take. While some aspects like power creep and 'scaling' existed in Naruto, it was far more low-key and not absolute. Power alone rarely made a difference. Unique techniques or ways that power was applied mattered more overall.

Oh please. Any unique techniques were thrown out the window in Shippuden. Tobirama and Orochimaru were the only ones with unique techniques.

Everyone else was using power creep and whatnot. Also most of the newer generation shinobi weren’t even using god powers.

>Because the end of Naruto is them becoming literal demi-gods and Naruto achieving his idyllic dream of uniting the Shinobi world in peace, all retconned by Boruto and in a poor fashion. Glazing once again. The shinobi world is at peace but that doesn’t mean conflict won’t arise. It just isn’t the same kind.
Also, if anything, there wasn’t any “retcon in poor fashion”. Again, people hyperfocus on Naruto and Sasuke while dismissing everyone else.
Also Naruto and Sasuke being demigods doesn’t mean they’re permanently invincible.

Hashirama and Tobirama Senju were the most powerful shinobi even in reincarnated form and they lost to Madara. Does that make them nerfed or fucked over? No.

Nice try though

>>30501
>Throughout the story he's a literal menace that gets treated as a joke outside of combat because "haha, angry dude is threatening to kill us again!" I posted it in the BnHA thread but the entire Bakugou-Deku relationship is like an abuser and a battered housewife, they're mostly toxic but the latter can't help but be drawn to the source of their pain.

This is a common trope in western and eastern animation. Sociophysical maltreatment of characters are portrayed as cute and wholesome.
In Fairy Odd Parents, Tim is subject to Vicky.
In Diary Of A wimpy Kid, Greg is subject to his mom and manipulative baby brother
In Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends, Mack is subject to his older brother Terrence.

And it’s portrayed in a way that if subjects complain, it’s seen as off-putting

I never liked this trope and I especially hate it more now due to the glamorization of self-deprecation as humor.

>>30503
>How is he boring in his appearance and name?
He's literally a lazy deviantart fankid design that somehow got made canon, it's just Naruto but 'modernized and who hates his dad' His name is supposed to be Bolt but it's very obvious that its just a change up of Naruto.
>Explain.
Sure
1) Like Boruto they're all just fanfic OCs but somehow canon. Sarada is just a recolored Sakura in attitude, to the point that they slapped on glasses so it wouldn't be that obvious, which then became a meme because of how stupid that is. Metal Lee? minorly tweaked Rock Lee, Shikadai? it's just a tweaked Shikamaru, whose most definitive difference is being a little less morose than Shikamaru (in the manga, the anime at least gives him an arc about using his Wind Nature but its never progressed past using it for D-Rank missions and as a call back to Temaris powers). Chocho is more visually different but makes no sense, Karui and Choji somehow becoming a couple is a wild take and it's just brushed aside. Her character also does very little. Gaara's (adopted) son is less of an OC and more interesting than the Konoha children but barely shows up either.
2) You say Rock Lee got treated like trash, that's incorrect. He doesn't appear much in the manga because the Manga is about Naruto and has a pretty specific plot, what would Rock Lee be doing at the bridge with Orochimaru? Why would Neji or any others be there? They're not the main cast.
In the filler however he and other side characters get to stand out and do their own things. Boruto's filler is also pretty decent but it's side characters basically do not even exist in the manga AT ALL and the side characters that DO exist in the manga are also almost nonexistant in there and do very little in the anime, especially with Metal Lee. The ones in the anime are primarily anime-original characters like Wasabi Izune who provides an interesting contrast to Kiba by being a cat-power ninja instead of a dog one.
>Any unique techniques were thrown out the window in Shippuden.
That's just blatantly incorrect. Jiraiya's techniques, the creation of the Fuuton-Rasengan and Rasenshuriken, learning Sage mode, We see a lot of other ninjas using different techniques from the Raikage to Mei Terumi to even Hinata developing her lion-fist etc. Not every ninja needs to learn a million techniques and frankly most don't; Jack of all Trades but Master of None is useful but won't win against a Master of a fewer but specific set of techniques. Might Guy unlike Rock Lee is capable of using chakra techniques, he's just mediocre at them, he never bothers learning them, instead focusing on the 8 Gates.
>most of the newer generation shinobi weren’t even using god powers.
Neither were the prior generation, but the difference is that kid Naruto wasn't able to land hits on distracted opponents above his caliber, he couldn't even land a clean hit on Zabuza even with substantial trickery, same for Kakashi. Now we have Momoshiki who is on the level of Kaguya, has a RINNEGAN and also absorbed Kinshiki, and somehow he lands a hit with an invisible rasengan (that made no sense and which is still visible to the Byakugan and Rinnegan alike) and later manages to kill Momoshiki with a giant rasengan, because the fucker forgot he could move as fast as Naruto and Sasuke and just drop a nuke on everything and instead did a beam battle with him. Its basically Gohan beating Cell after Goku and Vegeta fail but without the 'hyperbolic time chamber training and powerup' to actually somehow justify it. In the anime and later manga we get the Jogan or whatever it is, another fanfic powerup that reminds be of the Uzushigan or whatever OC byaku-sharingan ripoff fanfictions would have, but at least fanfiction has an excuse, being written by teenagers for fun.

>Glazing once again.

It's not glazing, that's the story. It's the entire point and conclusion of Naruto, that he achieves his dream, he becomes Hokage, he ends the cycle of hatred and brings peace to the Shinobi world and he even saves his friend from the darkness. It's idealistic but one consistent with the story and narrative of Naruto's growth over the story. Having it followed up by "lol no actually" is just stupid, especially in regards to Hidden Rain which Naruto personally promised Nagato to bring peace to, yet we see its actually worse off than before.
>that doesn’t mean conflict won’t arise
I didn't say that, but the way we see 'conflict arise' is bullshit and shouldn't physically be possible while Sasuke and Naruto are alive and are interconnected to the world with Ninshu. Jigen remaining hidden for so long is ridiculous.
>there wasn’t any “retcon in poor fashion”.
Hidden Rain being a wartorn ruin left to rot after the 4th War is pretty fucking glaring to me. Not to mention Kaguya and the Juubi. Her being an alien was never stated in Naruto, its left up in the air but essentially implied she is of divine nature a la Kaguya in the Bamboo Cutter story. The Juubi formed when Kaguya ate the God Fruit (to gain the power of chakra to stop conflict) and then later merged with the Tree. Kaguya's juubi form was sealed into what Hagoromo and his brother made the Moon, and the rest was sealed into Hagoromo as the Ten-Tails, later extracted and divided into the Bijuu. That itself was a bit of a retcon to be fair, but it was mostly consistent or at least plausible. Hagoromo, being semi-divine is a believable source. But then Boruto changes it to "lol no, they're just aliens (just like DBZ retconned Goku into an alien).
Even Boruto fails to maintain consistency on that plotpoint. Kaguya coming to Earth as Isshiki's partner is never mentioned (not even by Momoshiki who calls it Kaguya's 'district') and its explicitly mentioned that Kaguya's power came from the Tree's God Fruit. Now apparently Kaguya was supposed to be sacrificed to the tree to feed Isshiki and instead she (still a low-power nobody) managed to AMBUSH ISSHIKI and nearly kill him, and instead of becoming a Karma like Momoshiki and other Otsutsuki do, he decides to spend centuries mucking around in Jigens body supposedly searching for a better host, because somehow a Cyberpunk 2077 reject is a better host than the many powerful shinobi of the past.
AND THEN Naruto and Sasuke as adults (who are supposed to be even stronger than their teen selves) demolished by Jigen, not even Isshiki's full form but fucking JIGEN despite having held their own against a full power Kaguya who should have been far stronger than Isshiki at that point.
Naruto and Sasuke also don't do any of the many techniques they demonstrated against Madara and Kaguya, and instead repeatedly do the things they KNOW don't work or make no sense, like using a fucking Sussano'o against a microscopic, teleporting enemy.
And then there's stupid shit like Sasuke finding the mini Juubi and just leaving it there, not absorbing its power (which he can do with the Rinnegan) or finding a way to destroy it, nope, he just leaves it alone, where it becomes a major threat.

>Hashirama and Tobirama Senju were the most powerful shinobi even in reincarnated form and they lost to Madara.

They lost to a Madara that had powered up artificially by taking Hashiramas powers of regeneration and sage mode (not that this wasn't bullshit, but its a minor detail. Not to mention Madara never had the Rinnegan when he fought Hashirama before. When we get to Juubidara that's so massively different its comedic. Isshiki meanwhile was in a dying, inferior vessel which supposedly didn't let him use the full of his abilities, and going by the story should have been weaker than Kaguya, yet Naruto and Sasuke fail to even begin to put up a fight. Jiraiya's clone does better.
>Naruto and Sasuke being demigods doesn’t mean they’re permanently invincible.
No, but when Naruto gets a power that is literally "Universal understanding of things", all chakra natures and their kekkei genkai, as well as experience dealing with someone like Kaguya, its beyond ridiculous. As a teen he could rip off her arm but can't even land a clean hit on her inferior?

Naruto and Sasuke act and fight like caricatures of themselves and its undeniable. Nice try though.

Vicky isn't his love interest or friend though, she's an older sibling/bully and gets her comeuppance plenty.
Most anime do it as a gag and obviously so, Sakura doesn't try to kill Naruto or tell him to off himself and later just hits him or threaten to kill him seriously while everyone laughs.
Bakugou stands out because while they try to play it off, we consistently see his behavior as borderline unstable and violent, and pushing someone to suicide? Even Sasuke never went that far prior to his Curse Mark and second dose of Tsukiyomi torture.

The trope/gag is kinda lame but in things like Fairly Odd Parents and such its such a kid cartoon that it's too caricaturesque to be anything more than 'moustache-twirling villain' levels of cheese. Doesn't work with something like BnHA though.

>>30509
>1) Like Boruto they're all just fanfic OCs but somehow canon. You know that Boruto’s generation are all offspring of Naruto’s peers right? And if you look at Naruto’s peers’ parents, you would assume that they were DeviantArt OCs. You’re also forgetting that they’re all in clans which means they have to learn their ancestral techniques.

This logic is just hypocritical.
May as well say Gohan is just an OC ripoff of Goku.
Of all the criticism against Boruto, this is probably the most shallow one. The outfit design changes I can understand the hate for that.

Okay fair point

>Neither were the prior generation, but the difference is that kid Naruto wasn't able to land hits on distracted opponents above his caliber, he couldn't even land a clean hit on Zabuza even with substantial trickery, same for Kakashi.

Naruto was never good at subtlety. And Kakashi had to carry a genin team that weren’t even good compared to other ones.

Clarify further on this.

>In the anime and later manga we get the Jogan or whatever it is, another fanfic powerup that reminds be of the Uzushigan or whatever OC byaku-sharingan ripoff fanfictions would have, but at least fanfiction has an excuse, being written by teenagers for fun.

The difference between fanfiction and canon in terms of quality is often less than you think. Also just because something is made by kids/teens doesn’t automatically make it bad.

Also, you’re forgetting that the Otsutsuki were responsible for chakra and jutsu

>It's not glazing, that's the story. It's the entire point and conclusion of Naruto, that he achieves his dream, he becomes Hokage, he ends the cycle of hatred and brings peace to the Shinobi world and he even saves his friend from the darkness. Irony is, people complain about Boruto being “not dark enough”. They scream for bloodshed on the level of Forest Of Death.

>>30510
>The trope/gag is kinda lame but in things like Fairly Odd Parents and such its such a kid cartoon that it's too caricaturesque to be anything more than 'moustache-twirling villain' levels of cheese. Doesn't work with something like BnHA though

That’s the problem. People think that just because a show is for kids that kids are gonna like whatever lame trope of gags.

Also, BNHA, they make Bakugo an asshole friend as a foil for Midoriya as “iron sharpens iron” bullshit.
If I was Midoriya, I would switch classes or murder Bakugo.

>Most anime do it as a gag and obviously so, Sakura doesn't try to kill Naruto or tell him to off himself and later just hits him or threaten to kill him seriously while everyone laughs

And it’s tiring. It’s funny the first couple times but it comes off as annoying after that. It just makes me respect Naruto less.
I never liked Naruto trying to get Sakuras attention, annoying her to the point of bitch mode.

People like to say Sakura is trash, but I think she’s somewhat justified in the way she treats Naruto. I don’t approve of her hyperfocusing on Sasuke though.

>Vicky isn't his love interest or friend though, she's an older sibling/bully and gets her comeuppance plenty.

That comeuppance barely lasts long.
She only got her permanent comeuppance in Timmy Turner’s Channel Chasers movie.

>>30513
>if you look at Naruto’s peers’ parents, you would assume that they were DeviantArt OCs.
Actually no. Shikamaru and Choji are the only ones that look like their parents and even then kid Choji is very much not the same as his dad, and Shikamaru lacks the scar his dad has. Inoichi is very different from his daughter (and again she's his daughter). Naruto doesn't look like Minato, spare for the hair and eyes, Sasuke doesn't look like either of his parents, Sakura looks nothing like HER parents. Rock Lee's parents are unknown but he looks like Might Guy because he dresses and cuts his hair the same way, but their faces are different. Gaara looks nothing like his siblings or his parents. Kiba isn't his mothers clone, Hinata doesn't look like her dad, Neji doesn't look like his dad, and we can't see enough of Shino to determine much. Obviously they'll RESEMBLE their parents but there were a lot of differences.
Furthermore the parents in Naruto were background characters for most of it. In Boruto these are the former secondary and main characters of the previous show and have much more focus on them as a result. I can list off some easy fixes that would have instantly changes that;
  • Make Shikadai a girl; it would make her imitating her dad's grumbling about troublesome women hilarious, because she's one, it would also be good for her to have more wind-techniques outside of a filler episode.
  • Have Himawari NOT look like a barely modified kid Hinata, especially since the short-hair look in the original show was an indication of familial shame.
  • Have Sarada not wear fucking glasses and look like a female version of Sasuke in a skimpier version of Sakura's P1 outfit.

The most interesting version of the main cast is Inojin because of how he contrasts with Sai and Ino and has his own style.
>forgetting that they’re all in clans which means they have to learn their ancestral techniques.
Temari is a wind user and the most powerful one excluding outliers like Naruto and Sasuke. She's also a headstrong woman so it makes no sense for her to not teach her kid this, and for it to be brushed aside. Ignoring that, we barely see these techniques in the manga, almost exclusively in the anime.
>May as well say Gohan is just an OC ripoff of Goku.
Gohan resembles Goku but he shows clear distinctions even despite Toriyama admitting to sameface syndrome. He acts markedly different.
I don't mind the kids RESEMBLING their parents but it just feels like "oh yeah they're just their parents but hip and modernized, right fellow kids?"
Nobody is looking at Boruto and thinking this dude looks like anything but an edgy Naruto ripoff, it even does that thing bootleg media does where it barely changes the title.
>people will say the opposite if Boruto did that.
Boruto DOES do that in the sense that side characters don't do shit (in the manga). The difference is that they appear and do nothing anyway. Orochimaru's kid was hyped up with sage mode and other stuff, especially in the anime, and then he's just… a side character, less relevant than fucking Sakura in the original.
>Naruto was never good at subtlety
Maybe not in a direct way, but he's unpredictable. Kakashi didn't know he could do shadow clones or that they'd hidden in the water and Naruto has shown unconventional intelligence before when he's not overtaken by emotions.
>Kakashi had to carry a genin team that weren’t even good compared to other ones.
None of the Genin Teams except for Gai's would have lived on Tenshi bridge. Asuma could match Zabuza, but Ino, Shoji, Shikamaru, Hinata, Kiba and so on would have lost to Haku, especially in the first ambush by Zabuza. Without Naruto's intervention and multi-faceted plan, Zabuza could have drowned Kakashi.
>Clarify further on this
Momoshiki is stated to be comparable to Kaguya. Kaguya was blitzing Naruto and Sasuke at the beginning of their fight and could break Sasuke's Sussano'o while instantly recovering from attacks like pic 1 rel (each of them can level a mountain range, and she got hit by all of them and then instantly recovered). Even if we say that Momoshiki was only as strong as Juubidara, That version of Madara was blitzing a sharingan user like Kakashi, had insane-healing of his body and more. Boruto even if we say that he starts off as strong as Eary shippuden Naruto, is nowhere NEAR that level of speed and strength. Hell, Naruto doesn't even give him a Kurama cloak boost which would increase his capabilities.
Isshiki lost to a much weaker Kaguya, the idea that she ambushed him is laughable but even so, he's an Otsutsuki, so it would take a lot to even hurt him. Yet in an inferior and weaker form, he is beating a stronger Naruto and Sasuke like Madara played with the Kage.
>The difference between fanfiction and canon in terms of quality is often less than you think.
I know fanfiction, you're giving it too much credit, but the difference is fanfic authors aren't professionals.
>the Otsutsuki were responsible for chakra and jutsu
That's also a retcon. Chakra came from the chakra fruit and essentially didn't truly exist as it later dows before Kaguya ate it. Hagoromo was the first to be born with chakra and Kaguya, driven mad by the Tree wanted it back. After she's beaten Hagoromo creates Ninshu, granting Chakra to everyone and everything in an attempt to help people connect, he also created jutsu. Later this was retconned to some Otsutsuki King and all techniques being derived from him and bla bla bla.
>people complain about Boruto being “not dark enough”. They scream for bloodshed on the level of Forest Of Death.
Mostly at the beginning, but it's really more that there's no investment in these caricatures.

>>30514
>hey make Bakugo an asshole friend as a foil for Midoriya as “iron sharpens iron” bullshit.
I mean in a sense it does, but not in this situation. It works for Naruto and Sasuke because they're both raised in a village of assassins and soldiers and both give as good as they get (and are also not outright murderous to each other). Bakugou and Midoriya is like if Naruto had Hinata's personality and Sasuke had the personality of Zabuza, but written as a joke.
>It just makes me respect Naruto less.
It's mostly an anime only thing. We barely see it in the manga.
>I never liked Naruto trying to get Sakuras attention, annoying her to the point of bitch mode.
You missed the point there. Naruto is a lonely orphan kid, he doesn't know anything about love, it's just silly puppy love combined with an intense need for acceptance and acknowledgement, he's achieved everything through tenacity so why not this? It's not like he has parents to teach him otherwise.
>That comeuppance barely lasts long.
It is an episodic show.

>>30514
>Make Shikadai a girl; it would make her imitating her dad's grumbling about troublesome women hilarious, because she's one, it would also be good for her to have more wind-techniques outside of a filler episode

Why do people always wanna genderswap male characters but never do the same for female characters?

Shikadai is fine as he is. Shikadai also takes after his mom. If you were to get side by side comparison photos of kid Shikamaru and Shikadai you would see there’s some major facial differences.

>Have Himawari NOT look like a barely modified kid Hinata, especially since the short-hair look in the original show was an indication of familial shame

Himawari looks nothing like Hinata outside of hair color. She resembles more Naruto even with the shape of her hair and eye color.

>Have Sarada not wear fucking glasses and look like a female version of Sasuke in a skimpier version of Sakura's P1 outfit.

Sarada doesn’t look like a carbon copy of Sasuke at all.
Also what’s wrong with the glasses? I like it, especially since Uchihas are known to suffer visual problems due to Sharingan usage.

>Nobody is looking at Boruto and thinking this dude looks like anything but an edgy Naruto ripoff, it even does that thing bootleg media does where it barely changes the title.

Boruto doesn’t resemble his dad 1:1
The skin tone on Boruto is paler, his hair is more curly, and his hair shape is different.
His outfit isn’t the same as Naruto’s either.

>You missed the point there. Naruto is a lonely orphan kid, he doesn't know anything about love, it's just silly puppy love combined with an intense need for acceptance and acknowledgement, he's achieved everything through tenacity so why not this? It's not like he has parents to teach him otherwise

I think it’s more his personality more than anything. I’m sure if he had parents he still would be that way.
Also puppy love isn’t always that obnoxious nor overt. It’s just unnecessary comicalizing for “relatability”

Even so, it gets tiring.
All that grating on each other does get annoying.

>I know fanfiction, you're giving it too much credit, but the difference is fanfic authors aren't professionals.

Not saying no, but that doesn’t refute that official franchises often have qualities that scream “fanfiction”
It’s surprisingly much harder to write a perfect story than one realizes especially when fans constantly expecting pandering to.

>It is an episodic show

They can still come up with no tricks. In fact they did that around the early 2010s if I recall.

>>30517
>Why do people always wanna genderswap male characters but never do the same for female characters?

Because men are inherently uninteresting.

>>30518
>Because men are inherently uninteresting

Do you really believe this or are you letting your sex drive dictate your brain?
Be honest: when you uninteresting, do you mean that they don’t have boobs, vaginas, and curvy hips?

What if anime started spin exclusively old women for female characters? Or fat/butch/ ugly women? Pretty young things are non existent in a female character type?

>>30518
And yet most of our characters that’s advertised and iconic are men.
Even women genderswap female characters for their stories.

>>30519
Women are the inherently interesting gender.

>>30520
Only because of their relation to women. Take Dragon Ball for example. The story doesn't even start until Bulma, known woman, hits Goku with her car. Or Star Wars. The story begins with Princess Leia, who the story is really about. Goku and Luke Skywalker are both so boring that the stories they're in can't even begin until the important women show up.

>>30521
> Women are the inherently interesting gender.

By women, do you also include women whom are over forty, not slim, not docile?
Or are you only looking at the young pretty dames as your definition of women?
And if so, why do they always wait upon the man to take action? Why aren’t there much action adventure series with women as the active roles?
And why aren’t there much phenotype/personality diversity with female action adventure characters?

> Only because of their relation to women. Take Dragon Ball for example. The story doesn't even start until Bulma, known woman, hits Goku with her car. Or Star Wars. Those are outliers. Also Dragonball would’ve began without Bulma running into Goku anyway. The focus was mainly on Goku and Krillin fighting bigger stronger opponents in tournaments while being mere kids.

Also the story of Luke would’ve also happened without Leia anyways,

There’s plenty of superhero stories that don’t involve romantic relations of women to drive the story.
Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, Magi: Labyrinth Of Magic, etc

Just admit that you’re simping over fictional young female beauties

If all these young women were age swapped to be grannies, would you still say they’re interesting?

>>30521
That’s because those women are objectified as eye candy. They’re not expected nor allowed to shine on their own merit outside of their looks and mannerisms.

>Why do people always wanna genderswap male characters but never do the same for female characters?
Are you joking or what? Do you know how much Naruko fanfiction there is? Not even including the lewd stuff, just normal fics and art? A LOT.
>Shikadai is fine as he is
Shikadai is boring as fuck. Shikaku wasn't front and center of the series, so his similarity isn't as glaring as Shikadai's is for Shikamaru. He doesn't take after his mom at all.
>photos of kid Shikamaru and Shikadai you would see there’s some major facial
That is because Boruto art style is ass, see pic rel and his dad.
>Himawari looks nothing like Hinata
LMAO. Himawari looks just like kid Hinata except with blue eyes and two whisker marks, down to the short hair and her getting longer hair in P2. Her main difference is her being more happy and cosmetic differences because of artstyle being flatter but that's a general trend for all the characters.
>Sarada doesn’t look like a carbon copy of Sasuke at all.
Not to Naruto animation era Sasuke, but compared to Boruto animation Sasuke? Fucking yes she does. It's probably why Sarada had these retarded design changes in P2.
>what’s wrong with the glasses
She's an Uchiha, with no history of eye issues in either parent. Uchiha eye issues come from abusing the Mangekyou, which is a 'forbidden' secret, not a standard Sharingan. Sarada didn't develop issues, she was born with them, which makes little sense. It's why everyone theorized she was Karin's daughter to the point that the Anime went out of its way to address it and dismiss it.
>Boruto doesn’t resemble his dad
The only reason he doesn't is because of hair-style and clothing style, which is like Oda's Nami clones, redressing their hair and clothes doesn't make them look actually different. We see this in the Time-Slide Arc where he meets his dad as a child and they look so similar that Jiraiya immediately figures out who he is.
>The skin tone on Boruto is paler
Nope, that's just shitty Boruto artstyle again, which skips out on proper skin-toning unless someone is dark like Chocho.
>it’s more his personality more than anything
His personality is loud and brash, but its explicitly pointed out from the start that the lack of parents and his isolation by the village led to him acting out for attention and being tenacious about it.
>puppy love isn’t always that obnoxious nor overt.
No, but someone with no social skills or parenting would probably be that way. Characters being flawed does not make them annoying.
>ll that grating on each other does get annoying.
They're rivals, that's the point. They're not toxic about it until Sasuke gets his head twisted up.
>that doesn’t refute that official franchises often have qualities that scream “fanfiction”
As of late, yes.
>much harder to write a perfect story than one realizes
Considering I'm trying to be a writer, I am very well aware of the difficulties, its why I give a lot of lee way for the original Naruto series, as its flaws can be accepted in the face of the story it tells, the meanings, overall consistency, themes and messages that make it good. Boruto has little of that, the best lesson we get is in the beginning when Boruto learns to respect his dad and understand a little of why he's not always home (although that was a very iffy plot point tbh, but I can give it a slide). I don't like Boruto from the start, he's a bitchy entitled brat who has some talent and inherited ability but little else, and who have no respect or empathy for others. But I can accept it because the point is that he changes his viewpoint. But that's about it, The plot jumps from the Otsutsuki coming to Earth to suddenly Kara, to suddenly back to another Otsutsuki, then to this God Tree Gang, and Eida and Kawaki and its just a convoluted shitshow with no coherent message or theme besides "let the past die" or whatever, ripped out of the Star Wars Sequels. The filler is a little better, but that's not in the manga.

>>30522
>By women, do you also include women whom are over forty, not slim, not docile?
Not that Anon but yes.
<WeLikeOlderWomen.png

>>30528
I’m not talking about the pornifoed Botox “milfs”. I’m talking real life post prime age women. With wrinkles and cellulite. And not all of them are curvy.

>>30527
>LMAO. Himawari looks just like kid Hinata except with blue eyes and two whisker marks, down to the short hair and her getting longer hair in P2. Her main difference is her being more happy and cosmetic differences because of artstyle being flatter but that's a general trend for all the characters.

The resemblance is superficial. There’s more resemblance to Naruto with the head shape, skin tone, whiskers, and spiky hair.

>30527
>The only reason he doesn't is because of hair-style and clothing style, which is like Oda's Nami clones, redressing their hair and clothes doesn't make them look actually different. That’s because Jiriya is only looking at the face whiskers and blue eyes.

>Nope, that's just shitty Boruto artstyle again, which skips out on proper skin-toning unless someone is dark like Chocho.

No, dumbass. It’s because Boruto’s mom is Hinata whose pale as a ghost.
Boruto inherits a bit of her skin tone and head shape.

>Not to Naruto animation era Sasuke, but compared to Boruto animation Sasuke? Fucking yes she does. It's probably why Sarada had these retarded design changes in P2.

By your logic, adult Shikamaru is a carbon copy of his dad from the Naruto era

>They're rivals, that's the point. They're not toxic about it until Sasuke gets his head twisted up.

It was always kinda toxic. Sasuke snapping was the final straw.

Boruto and Sarada are rivals and they’re not toxic about it. Rock Lee and Neji were rivals but they weren’t toxic.

>Are you joking or what? Do you know how much Naruko fanfiction there is? Not even including the lewd stuff, just normal fics and art? A LOT.

That’s what I mean. There’s a lot of Naruko fanart/fanfics but not a lot of male! Sakura fanart/fanfiction.

>first pic complains about missing out on “pre-kiddification”

Wtf is up with these people?
Naruto in his current appearance isn’t kiddifird at all.

>I don't like Boruto from the start, he's a bitchy entitled brat who has some talent and inherited ability but little else, and who have no respect or empathy for others

Boruto isn’t disrespectful nor lacking empathy towards others. People assume that the animosity he had towards his dad means he’s like that towards everyone else.

Boruto was a doting big brother towards Himawari. He helped fend off bullies that were harassing Denki.
He’s simply brash just like his dad. Kid Naruto was more disrespectful.

>Shikadai is boring as fuck. Shikaku wasn't front and center of the series, so his similarity isn't as glaring as Shikadai's is for Shikamaru. He doesn't take after his mom at all.

He takes after his mom with the spiky hair and green eyes. Also sorry that he’s not some flashy extroverted character like Boruto and Chocho.
Him being “boring” is okay.

The message is that shinobi aren’t defined by mere past aesthetics. I guess you forgot the opening of Boruto where Kawaki was saying “the age of shinobi is over” and Boruto says “no”.

But okay. What was the main theme of Dragonball? Or One Piece

>>30527
>No, but someone with no social skills or parenting would probably be that way. Characters being flawed does not make them annoying.

So then, why the hate for Boruto as a character while defending kid Naruto?

You hate on Shikadai as well

>>30534
Neither am I. Have you ever had an older woman? It's great.

>>30536
> There’s more resemblance to Naruto with the head shape
Uhh no. Naruto, even as a kid had a more long head than Hima or Hinata, skin tone is inconsistent in Boruto, but in this case its a high exposure scene with Hinata and a sunset with Himawari. Boruto actually makes Naruto paler than he is.
The whiskers and eyes are all there is, Hinata also has hair spikes as a kid as seen, Neither have them when their hair is grown out later.
>>30537
>because Jiriya is only looking at the face whiskers and blue eyes.
You're deliberately ignoring the first part wherein we see them side by side and they look extremely alike to the point that characters mix them up at times.
>Boruto’s mom is Hinata whose pale as a ghost.
Your reading comprehension is awful. Naruto's skin tone is also paler in Boruto, same thing as Shikamaru suddenly having larger eyes than he ever did in Naruto.
>By your logic, adult Shikamaru is a carbon cop
I already addressed this, next.
>always kinda toxic
You're judging based on first-world modern values of what you think closeness is.
>Boruto and Sarada are rivals
LMAO, no they're not. They're more like siblings, where Sarada acts as the slightly older sister. They're not very competitive, and the aforementioned dynamic is basically dropped midway through part 1.
>and they’re not toxic
They're not much of anything. Boruto's rival is supposed to be Kawaki.
>Rock Lee and Neji were rivals but they weren’t toxic.
Prior to Naruto beating some sense into Neji, the latter was mocking of Rock Lee and considered his struggles to be a pointless waste of time and failure, but kept appearances as a "Hyuuga" and so held his tongue. Afterwards when his own internal contradictions are broken open by Naruto facing him down and defeating him, he changes his attitude, because his main issue over his father's death was resolved.
>There’s a lot of Naruko fanart/fanfics but not a lot of male! Sakura fanart/fanfiction.
There's literally thousands of fics that switch genders to Sakura being male and the others being female, or Ino or Hinata.
>Naruto in his current appearance isn’t kiddifird at all
Not my image, the point is the difference in art style is significant.
>Boruto isn’t disrespectful nor lacking empathy towards others.
He's constantly disrespectful to others, the anime fixes it a little, but he still acts out about his dad in the same way that Sakura did in the Road to Ninja movie, because "Waaah my dad (the leader of the Ninja world) isn't always spending time with us" despite being old enough to know better. Naruto was disrespectful because he was uncouth and uneducated.
>helped denki
Anime filler.
>spiky hair and green eyes
Spiky hair is also Shikamaru's thing and he wears it like Shikamaru. Green eyes don't mean much. Giving Naruto orange eyes wouldn't make him look more like Tsunade.
>The message is that shinobi aren’t defined by mere past aesthetics.
Where is this even implied? Visual differences because Ikemoto is the illustrator/author now are meaningless.
<opening is just Disney Sequels "let the past die" "no"
You proved my point

>Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball isn't super complex and was never meant to be, it's good triumphs over evil with some focus on self-sacrifice and never giving up.
>One Piece
The main theme is Freedom to pursue ones dreams and live unshackled, represented by Luffy and all his Crew who joined to realize their dreams as well.

>>30538
The fuck? Boruto isn't just flawed, he's an edgy gary stu. Shikadai is just boring, not flawed.

>>30540
>Your reading comprehension is awful. Naruto's skin tone is also paler in Boruto, same thing as Shikamaru suddenly having larger eyes than he ever did in Naruto.

You’re the one here merely nit picking points

>The fuck? Boruto isn't just flawed, he's an edgy gary stu. Shikadai is just boring, not flawed.

Explain how Boruto is an “edgy Gary Stu”
By your logic, so is Madara
And what about Boruto is “edgy”? I really hate how loosely this term is used.
Is Boruto a nihilist? Does he get excited over bloodshed?
Madara is edgy. Orochimaru is edgy.

>Where is this even implied? Visual differences because Ikemoto is the illustrator/author now are meaningless.

<opening is just Disney Sequels "let the past die" "no"
>You proved my point

What point?
You’re just going out of your way to rationalise your contempt for Boruto in irrelevant ways.

>The main theme is Freedom to pursue ones dreams and live unshackled, represented by Luffy and all his Crew who joined to realize their dreams as well

And how is this any more “better defined” than Boruto’s themes?

>You're judging based on first-world modern values of what you think closeness is.

Now you’re being willfully obtuse. First world modern folk think excessive trash talking and animosity is a virtue of closeness as well.
If anything, it’s the first world modern world that thinks men having no animosity or snark between each other means that they’re homosexual.

>He's constantly disrespectful to others, the anime fixes it a little, but he still acts out about his dad in the same way that Sakura did in the Road to Ninja movie, because "Waaah my dad (the leader of the Ninja world) isn't always spending time with us"

Can you show me where this happens? As far as I can tell, he’s only disrespectful to his dad.
And that’s what made people assume that he’s some antisocial spoiled brat.
I bet if he was mean towards someone else, everyone wouldn’t be as quick to assume this.

>There's literally thousands of fics that switch genders to Sakura being male and the others being female, or Ino or Hinata.

Those are in lesser proportion to female!Naruto

>LMAO, no they're not. They're more like siblings, where Sarada acts as the slightly older sister.

Wtf does this mean? “Slightly older sister”?

>They're not very competitive, and the aforementioned dynamic is basically dropped midway through part 1.

They were competive but only for a bit.

>Spiky hair is also Shikamaru's thing and he wears it like Shikamaru. Green eyes don't mean much. Giving Naruto orange eyes wouldn't make him look more like Tsunade.

There is facial resemblance of Temari on Shikadai. Look at his head shape, eye shape, and hairline. It’s more round.

Also, Naruto is a distant relative of Tsunade.
Kushinas great-grandmother is Mito Uzumaki, whom is Tsunade’s grandmother.

>They're not much of anything. Boruto's rival is supposed to be Kawaki.

Kawaki was a toxic rival. Although he was never intending to be a rival. He was just semi-romantically obsessed with Naruto.
A homoerotic tsun-yandere.

>Uhh no. Naruto, even as a kid had a more long head than Hima or Hinata,

Now whose the one lacking in reading comprehension? Himawari is no doubt gonna absorb a mixture-ratio of her parents phenotypical features.
Himawari isn’t gonna have a square head exactly the same way as Naruto’s.
But Boruto has more of a round facial shape from Hinata. It’s not gonna be 1:1 though

>skin tone is inconsistent in Boruto, but in this case its a high exposure scene with Hinata and a sunset with Himawari. Boruto actually makes Naruto paler than he is.

>The whiskers and eyes are all there is, Hinata also has hair spikes as a kid as seen, Neither have them when their hair is grown out later.

Hinatas hair spikes are just so the haircut.

>You're deliberately ignoring the first part wherein we see them side by side and they look extremely alike to the point that characters mix them up at times.

Because they’re not paying close enough attention.
Like, Sasuke can style his hair like Itachis, and you’d think they look alike unless you pay close attention.

>I already addressed this, next

And it’s still an inconsistent point

>Neither am I. Have you ever had an older woman? It's great.

Age numbers aren’t virtue points within themselves.
Also, are you closer in age to older women?
