Jojo

>>9780The memes and clips only catch on because the show is fun.
>>9783I feel it catches on more because it's just so shocking and absurdist. On paper the story is alright, but the actual result is nonsensical.
>>9784That's why it's fun.
>>9780Wrong, it's also good for obsessing over it and over-analyzing it for years and years with other weirdos on the internet.
And for playing a decades-old fighting game.
>>10455On average, the animation in those OVAs is obviously superior by far. It sucks that Twitter JoJofags (or whatever community it was) memed "JoJo fans must shit on the OVAs for no reason" so hard.
I prefer the first (Egypt part) OVAs though, I don't like the style of the later ones very much, though if I didn't know they're an adaptation and if I didn't know about JoJo, I would probably think it's a really cool anime.
Overrated garbage
>Jonathan comes from rich family
>Dio comes from poor family
<Is jojo part 1 capitalist/aristocrat propaganda?
The background is simply capitalist, yet it bares little on the plot. The Joestar mansion looks like a noble sort of aristocratic estate, but George could have just been a rich English merchant. I believe the implication is that they're nobility though, since Jonathan is just such a 'noble and too pure' sort of idealistic character. Jojo is too goddamned fucking stupid for there to be any overarching themes of class, even in a subliminal way.
I honestly doubt Araki could even comprehend the notion of economic class. Dio is quite literally comically evil just for the sake of being so, and is not meant to be reflective of any particular type of human in general: Dio or DIO, he in particular is just an evil fucking bastard simply because he is so don't bother questioning it. And so is his dad. There's little to no class commentary in JoJo. Whenever something like Nazis show up it's always stupid, comical and over the top. I wouldn't bother going looking for a profound subtext.
SPEEDWAGON on the other hand is also a 'underclass dreg' sort of character, but he is the complete inverse of Dio. He has honor and respect, he doesn't screw over everyone possible to get the upper hand. He is a good person who also happens to be a leader of a mugging crew because he 'has to be' or whatever to provide for his family that was mentioned in one line. So Araki is transcendently apolitical, but that doesn't mean he's actually injecting reactionary messaging I don't think; I'm fairly certain that he really just is that way.
That said: The most evil fuck imaginable such as Dio only becomes a danger if he gets into power. The Joestar family's bourgeois naivete is very much responsible for letting Dio get worse and worse. I'd like a fanfic exploring what would happen if the Joestars just peaced out on the Brandos. Would Dio have become more like an evil version of Speedwagon? Would someone else get corrupted by the mask eventually?
>big burly men posing while their humanoid spirit pokemon do all the fighting and all the specialized combat techniques like hamon get forgotten in favor of muscly twinks
Jojo hasn't been good for some time.
>>10861Did you read steel ball run?
>>10865They dont (willingly) summon stands to fight for them, its mostly just their subconscious will that brings them into existence
And the spin is a direct callback to hamon.
I love JoJo only for part 1, 2, and 7. All the other parts are alright and have their moments, but were never as consistent.
>>10866Looks like a Rasengan to me TBH.
The Latin American Spanish dub for JoJo parts 1-3 just dropped today (on Netflix)
https://doblaje.fandom.com/es/wiki/JoJo%27s_Bizarre_Adventure>>10457The final batch of Part 6 has been released, and now I have finally seen the part, I can say that it is a certified banger. (This is me by the way
>>69 )
Here are my part ratings (I haven't only read the first 10 chapters of part 8)
7 > 4 =>(?) 6 + ending > 2 > 5 => 3 > 6 - ending > 1
Genuinely I am not the same after watching this part. Made in heaven and Jail house Lock are now both my favorite two stands of all time, (I think a anime like and good as death note can be made based off of Jail House lock, genuinely fascinating to think about It's also a good analogy for cardiac if you're a programmer).
While I think the part didn't have the strongest: protagonist, JoBros (Jo sisters are great though), villain (until the end where I see his plan, still think the name is very poorly chosen), or some of the stands (did not like that fung shway guy) – man that ending is fucking amazing, (even though the ending wasn't built up properly since it was a re-write)
What do you guys think?
>>10866>I love JoJo only for part 1, 2, and 7. All the other parts are alright and have their moments, but were never as consistent.I agree on part 2 and 7 be consistent, but why 1? I found the part was at it's best when Jonathon and Dios dynamic was being presented, which made the part have a gap in quality after episode 4 and the finale.
>>10455>>10457Is it worth to watch it? Other than the shadows and textures, it seems to be a really bad adaption in every possible way you can think of, (other than being the only one to include the beginning scene from part 1)
>>9780There's many aspects that are great, one being that the series in insanely experimental that is always changing things up.
Ex: Part 2 is an indiana jones film with the protagonist having a very forward personality that uses sunshine karate to kill the strongest male strippers to ever walked the planet, part 3 uses a whole new power system and stars a introverted delinquent that goes on a summer vacation with others to kill someone, then part 4 doubles the complexity of the stands and did a slice of life.
>>18006I really liked part six until they left the prison. Had some of the most inventive fights - that dragon guy and miu miu. The fights with Dio's sons were all pretty lame and the ending fight made absolutely no sense.
It was cool that Araki basically finished the Joestar's cursed line with the end of Stone Ocean though, and it explains why he had to do a reboot for part 7.
> good as death note what lol DN is certified trash
Out of 1-5 I liked Joskue and part 4 the best. However, I like part 7 the best.
Please remember to double-check for a thread already on a topic
>>192733 was episodic villain of the week, 4 was episodic slice of life with villain of the week, 5 was back to the overarching narrative.
>>192894 was only episodic for like half of it, until the villain of the week turned out to be a serious threat and the rest of the show was about stopping him
>>5094I prefer the OVA artstyle to the anime tbh
>>19273Have you only seen the animes, or have you read the mangas?
While Joseph is probably the best protagonist, (he's the reason if you even like part 2) – I think Johnny and Kira from "Dead men tell no tales", are really solid.
Maybe it's just me, but it feels like Jojo has, well not quite lost, but reduced in popularity on the internet. It feels like 2 or 3 years back you'd constantly get shit like "wuz dat a jojo reference" or any other meme and reaction images with the characters, and now it's just not as common. They still crop up from time to time, but not like before.
>>24262Isn't that a good thing?
>>24263I mean for me personally yes as I only liked the old OVA from a long time ago, and found the meme obsession boring.
just finished part 8
i dont get it
>>30680I think it's fine. Part 1 was very different as well.
>>25409Joseph in Part 2 is such a fun protagonist, he’s basically Daffy Duck as Kenshiro
>>30680>>25409 here. (I forget this place remembers posts that old)
I've been reading the hardback release this year and watching the show as released as well, so I don't know the ending, but so far it's been… fine? Nice designs and color. Fine voice acting. I think the main problem I've had is that it doesn't have much actual animation? Like it's just shot for shot the comic and someone reading it while the frames are in color. It feels stiff. Maybe I've been spoiled by watching other modern anime slop recently.
>>30689When I said ending I meant the resolution to the story. When I watched the series I watched the credits once and I now skip it. I have no real opinion on it because it isn’t substantive to the adaption. Is it lame? Is it shit? Who fucking cares about the credits roll when the series is so stiff.
>>30680>horrific potential release schedulemy theory is that they don't want funny valentine to coincide too much with the US midterms lol
>>30690>Who fucking cares about the credits rolljojo has pretty good credit rolls, pretty genetically close to AMVs. the stone ocean OP and ED are both pretty good and would stand on their own as music videos.
also araki just can't land an ending for his life, he always ass pulls something or the other.
