There's plenty to like about chapter 5 but it was definitely spinning its wheels. We didn't really learn anything we didn't already know. Asgore didn't say shit. Weird route scene was cool but fairly short and is now fully disconnected from the main plot.
I will say the gameplay has been getting better with each chapter. That's one massive advantage it has over Undertale. Undertale and Deltarune chapter 1 feel primitive now.
I'm hoping this was the "one last fun adventure before shit goes down" chapter and 6 and 7 won't be like this. The fact that this was the last shadow crystal and egg makes it feel like the beginning of the end.
/v/ has been losing their shit because Toby, the guy known for loving lesbian couples, made the obvious lesbian couple a lesbian couple. That place is so far up its own ass, such a hive of mental illness, they don't even grasp how warped their view of reality is. I shouldn't go there but I still do sometimes.

the susie and noelle scenes feel very ominous tbqh with the sudden change in behavior from susie especially after the reveal of the prophecy, kris constantly third-wheeling, that final scene after leaving susie, and the parallels to the weird route, surely theres a reason the whole chapter spent most of the time focusing on their date……..?
Finished my normal route playthrough today. Objectively the chapter did a lot right but a lot of it wasn't what I was hoping it would do. When the credits started rolling I was just like, "oh, that's it?" People thought that "one last fun adventure" post was intended to be ironic but no, that's more or less what went down. I can't help but feel like I'm being unfair because despite the chapter having a lot to offer, I still spent the whole time feeling like I was waiting for something to happen.
Asgore being fully conscious had way less of an impact than I'd hoped. He's just a living objective marker until the end where he monologues his character arc at his unresponsive kid before getting added to RK's pokedex. I had really hoped he would actually do something and he kind of doesn't.
It feels like every enemy references the world revolving at some point, and at least two different people reference Gaster's "very, very interesting" catchphrase. It was heavy-handed as fuck but I stomached it under the assumption that it was foreshadowing something creepy happening later. Nothing creepy happened later, even the shadow crystal boss was cute and bright and goofy.
The Flowey-Flowery connection could've gone deeper. Although maybe I'm just cranky because I wanted to see My Best Friend again. I'm not sure how to articulate this bit, it feels like all the pieces are technically there. There's even a kind of "kill or be killed" reference when Flowery suggests sealing Castle Town's fountain instead, if one needs to go to prevent the roaring. The guy mostly just feels like his own independent character, the Flowey theming is fun but I'm struggling to see how it adds to him.
Gonna start the weird route within the next day probably, here's hoping it'll pick up some of the slack.
Chapter 2 remains unsurpassed.

Non-zero amount of anger at it ending with "see you in chapter 7!" but whatever, insane meta-aware Noelle was sick as fuck. I see a lot of people discussing the ending as a suicide but it seems more like she boundary broke her way out of the story?I guess I technically have more to see since you can back out of the last scene without the aborted weird route jingle playing, but it sounds like there isn't much difference there. >>47281Things like UT/DR are games for people who don't really like games.

Baffled by the positive reception of chapter 5.
(Almost) nothing of note happened. Dialogue was cringeworthy. Jokes were more misses than hits. References for references sake. Flat characters incorporated as round characters. Waaay too long.
Seen some buzz around this or that being unexpected, but something being unexpected is not itself a good thing. The secret boss seems a good example of this (regardless of the character or fight itself).
What do chapter 5 enjoyers see what I am missing?
