I am from the United Stated and I took a Spanish class for 5 YEARS in the entirety of my elementary school years and learned nothing… That's not entirely true but we learned more about how to make papel picados than how to speak Spanish, The only thing I learned how to say in all of those 5 years is "Me gusta las frutas." And it was only because of this song they made us watch in 5th grade that has been stuck in my head for the rest of my life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWn2fkJTdCs I did have the same teacher for all 5 of those years and she was pretty cool, She was from Spain, specifically Catalonia, but she moved to Portugal, then Mexico, then the United States so she could speak 4 languages which is more then I would ever be able to speak. The best thing though was that every year we would sell Bracelets to other kids in the school and out parents would gives us money to buy them, and all of the money would go to buying some poor family in the Andes a Llama, so that was pretty cool. I don't think is was bad that we spent so much time learning about Latin American and Iberian culture but I just wish we were taught the fucking language more because we only were taught Colors, Days, Numbers, and Body parts, most of which I forget. But the dumbest part though was the "Spanish name" thing where kids would adopt a new name, I have no Spanish heritage but I have a Latin derived name so my teacher just added an "-ino" at the end of it, I was a kid and I was stupid so I assumed that if I ever traveled to a Spanish speaking country I would have to use this name. I shared this story because I thought it was funny, but one question I have for you /latam/ is if English classes exist in your countries in vice versa?
