The split between socdems and communists is kind of interesting because it happened as a result of WWI and admission to the Comintern had certain requirements. But before that the communists called themselves revolutionary social democrats and so forth. Also the Comintern no longer exists. The meta now seems to be Marxists forming new parties called things like the Historic Pact that look fresh and then aim to expand the base, but we'll see if it sustains in the first round in Colombia on Sunday.
