At some point in history, in 1914, during the Second International, there was a close attempt to make the bottom picture a reality: synchronizing workers from multiple countries into a massive multi-nation strike to stop the war.
It failed miserably because they succumbed to the nationalists.
It was never tried again.
And what happens in reality it's that we can live-stream thousands of babies turned in strings of meat, children and women turned into a blob of bones, blood and meat, in Gaza, and no worker walked (and will not walk) away from the raytheon facilities, general electric ("defense") facilities, boeing ("defense"), northrop grumman facilities, etc.

SO the question is a trap:

It's not "special" per se, there is a great book called "Late Victorian Holocausts" and another one called "King Leopold's Ghost." Both of these books show that genocide has been part of capitalism since the 19th century, but really genocide has been part of the greater colonial process since 1492. Not what I said. It's not about who's going to (or should) do it first. It's about coming up with a plausible explanation for why it hasn't happened yet. The third worldist thesis made a lot of sense in the 60s and 70s when the West had a huge and thriving proletarian middle stratum that was reliably loyal to the bourgeois establishment while the global South had numerous active revolutionary movements and existing socialist states. It makes a lot less sense now that the Western labour aristocracy has severely atrophied and the revolutionary movements of the Global South are virtually nonexistent. We need to come up with an alternative explanation for why things are the way they are, because obviously the third worldist explanation has been proven false.
