It's a question of whether the violence is properly used and directed, and holding perpetrators accountable when its not. Violence is a tool and probably a necessary one in the course of class struggle, but it must be used only when necessary, judiciously, and with discipline. People who misdirect it or are excessive should be apprehended, tried, and punished. I'd say excesses alone are probably inevitable and aren't sufficient cause to withdraw support, but a party or movement that has far to many excesses and refuses to correct them (i.e. prevent them in the future and punish those responsible) will undermine itself and the socialist cause.
