i'm not sure Labour's so cynical. maybe the right combo of stupid and cynical, but if they were cynical then Labour governments would have lots of right-to-buy type policies: e.g. policies that use state money and assets to create hoardes of Labour voters, just as Thatcher created new Tories. Yet even where Labour have blundered into this (mass access to higher education, for example) they both hate it, and try to alienate those voters, and propose to scrap the policy. it's like they hate winning.

I'm seriously considering leaving this country. There are blackshirts marching around, setting everything on fire, beating up minorities, committing crime 24/7 and its just…crickets. The media and police appear to support them and the government are actually fucking terrified of them. And "the people" don't seem especially worried as long as Netflix still works… At least Americans fought and died protesting ICE, and they were state backed militia, we can't even do that against a bunch of drunk hooligans.
I think this country is actually done for. I haven't seen anything about this country during this period that shows its up to challenging the assault of the far-right. Wild things are happening in Scotland. Today's proposal: merge all councils into 6 strategic authorities that handle all the relevant stuff currently done by 32 councils (education, bins, etc) with 150 odd parish council tier local bodies beneath them (that piss about putting plaques on buildings etc)
Particularly funny given that the geographically massive Highland council area being the lowest level of local government is already the go to example of just how centralised the UK is.
The underlying reason is that Sturgeon fucked up negotiations for how Scottish funding would work after the devolution of income tax and now Scotland is punished for every year it grows slower than London, which has been basically every year in Scottish history.
