People really lack a sense of scale if they think nuclear weapons are deterrence against any attack or aggression, rather than something that deters specifically WW3.

Like I can’t comprehend the Spurdo mindset that thinks a handful of drones, launched by proxy, landing on the outskirts of Moscow to cause economic damage, is comparable to NATO mobilising millions for an invasion of Russia and both therefore equally warrant crossing the nuclear Rubicon.

But of course that is dangerous in the sense that people can (and have) become deluded in believing that because attacks which are intended to be merely nuisances or embarrassing for Russia haven’t resulted in us using bottle caps for currency, then surely WW3 is actually on the table and we can safely start talking about mass mobilisation to “finish Russia off” and be back in time for Christmas.

But short of Russia preemptively ending the world just to prove a point, what can be done to clear up such delusions? To my point earlier, Russia flipping 30 years of its defensive stance to start attacking NATO’s Estonian military bases or sinking British subs and putting NATO on the defence, is precisely the circumstance that can be misunderstood as the start of WW3 and result in the end of the world by perceived retaliation.

I can only suspect this delusional spiral ends when NATO does something stupid and immediately scares themselves.

>People really lack a sense of scale if they think nuclear weapons are deterrence against any attack or aggression
North Korea seems to think they're fine enough to block any war. Why are nukes not enough for Russia?

>>2927045
but they are! difference is russia is the attacking side yet it carefully picks targets without nuclear capability

>>2927038

you should definitely do that, nothing could make me happier

>>2927045
because North Korea is not an imperialist state like Russia

>>2927045
WW3 with Russia isn’t going to happen because of their nukes, the Korean War kicking off again isn’t going to happen because of their nukes, NATO trying to economically strangle the life out of both is currently happening despite their nukes.

What exactly was your point?

>>2927070
a conflict with russia wouldn't be a third world war any more than invasion of afghanistan was a world war. for a world war you need world-wide alliances on both sides.

>>2927076
Have we forgotten the term “Axis of Evil” already? Or “Beyond the Axis of Evil” or “CRINK: Evil Axis Boogaloo”?

>>2927095
>Axis of Evil
remind me what iran or nk were doing during invasion of iraq
or better yet explain who and why would step up for russia

>>2927135
Being evil in an axial kind of way, it doesn’t really matter because it’s the West that convinces itself that there’s a strongly united alliance against them.

>>2927212
cool. so which of those imagined axis of evil countries would have stuck up with russia in an eventual nato conflict nobilitating it to a world war status?

>>2927070
>NATO trying to economically strangle the life out of both is currently happening despite their nukes.
The sanctions on Russia only kicked in after Putin invaded, thobeit. If they hadn't the Russian economy would not have been placed under pressure. Also if your prime concern is economic sanctions, going to war only accelerates economic decline and technological regression due to the extra strain on the economy from increased military spending. A nation at peace being sanctioned can handle it better than a nation at war being sanctioned.

>>2927135
>or better yet explain who and why would step up for russia
China, a nato aligned russia/russia hostile to China would be a red line. it would probably start out as a sort of lend lease, not actual troops but that could change if the Nato gets actual involves

>going to war only accelerates economic decline and technological regression due to the extra strain on the economy from increased military spending. A nation at peace being sanctioned can handle it better than a nation at war being sanctioned.
Incorrect since a war economy, especially those practiced during WW2, can boost the economy massively, a big reason why Nazis lost was because they went into a war economy mode rather late. The issue arises after the war is over. As much as the cope news loves talking about an existing "war economy" in Russia, its not really true. Currently its economy function more in the style of a keynesian socdem one, a far cry from an actual planned war economy since that would entail curbing consumption. Your last sentence is disproven by the experience of Cuba and the DPRK. Cuba, at peace and sanctioned, struggling massively, DPRK on the other hand, also sanctioned and technically still at war, doing fine. In fact, DPRK should realistically be doing much worse since its relationship with most "developed" countries is so much worse than even Cubas.

>>2927248
try again
china is dependent on trading with >the west moreover it would never under no circumstance endanger it's bottom line for anyone

>>2927271
>try again china is dependent on trading with >the west moreover it would never under no circumstance endanger it's bottom line for anyone
no because the west would find any excuse to sanction China anyway and Chinas bottom line would be affected by a hostile Russia

>>2927045
NK have massive conventional forces too. Its a deterrent against the US nuking/carpet bombing them

>>2927275
like they do now?

glad this has finally been settled by objective means

Well, apparently a rada MP is drafting a law where she puts ukraine as a neutral state, where they won't joining any military alliance (namely, includes nato).
Problem is, the constitution of ukraine doesn't allow this.

Article 154 kills it at the door. A constitutional amendment bill may be submitted only by the President or no fewer than one-third of the constitutional composition of the Rada, 150 MPs (theoretically, lmao. Everyone knows the rada has like 100 members only). The Constitutional Court restated this in 2016: such a bill is submitted only by one of the subjects defined in Article 154. One deputy has no standing to introduce it. Reporting says Skorokhod submitted it alone, which makes the filing procedurally void on its face.
And then there's article 157.
>"Конституція України не може бути змінена в умовах воєнного або надзвичайного стану." (Art. 157, ukrainian constitution)
Or:
>The Constitution of Ukraine may not be amended under conditions of martial law or a state of emergency.
Article 159 blocks consideration. The Rada may not even examine an amendment bill without a Constitutional Court opinion on conformity with Articles 157 and 158. That opinion would have to address martial law, and the answer is already determined.

>>2927668
Can't wait for Zelensky to pass this unilaterally with an executive order and for Russia's complaints to be revealed as the lies they are. Ukraine blocking itself from joining NATO only to have Russia continue to wage war against them proving that the Russians were lying all along would be hilarious.

>>2927671
That was the primary requirement to avoid open conflict.

Ukraine thinking they can opt for a ground war instead and then after 5 years of making postage stamps celebrating the car bombing of civilians, droning civilian infrastructure and even making threats to civil aviation, come back to the negotiating table fully expecting the same terms as 2022 is clearly funnier.

But I’m glad you’ve already prepared your response for the inevitable.

Oh boi I will be laffin when Ukraine shows up to negotiate their surrender from a position that is both delusional and would have made fighting pointless anyway!

>>2927671
Russia can't accept this. Even if it isn't challenged today, another administration can declare it's void, and resume hostilities.

>>2927683
It’s actually quite sad to consider that Ukraine made itself legally bound to join NATO or die trying in 2019, when Zelensky won the election on a campaign promise to restore peace.

Russia will launch the nukes before it admits defeat and lets itself be recolonised by western powers. Silly war with obvious outcome, do the western powers want nuclear war?

>>2927685
Russia will annex half of Ukraine and the war will end in a wet brap as the bounties of the great pobeda will be a bunch of thirdie-tier blown up villages and some resources in Donbass

>>2927685
the way war is going they have already lost. I don't think any of their allies (China, India, Brazil, etc.) appreciate their unhinginess. And they also remilitarized Europe and made them more fascistic.

the definition of being dumb:
Russia lost ✅
but Ukraine can't kick them out, and keep losing more ground every day: ✅
and since when europe de-militarized? for them to go to invade afghanistan, iraq, syria, and lybia, they had to be militarized.

>A Ukrainian Armed Forces instructor admitted that he never once saw Russian troops mistreating civilians.

>His own fellow soldiers, however, regularly engaged in looting.

<I remember very well how we took things from people. It’s a profession—looter, he said.

Here in Russia people think that Russia lost the war. it is pointless and stupid. SMO achieved absolutely nothing. It wasn't Crimea part 2.

>The "European Solidarity" party has expelled Aleksey Goncharenko* from its parliamentary faction for calling for the start of peace negotiations with Russia, the faction said in a statement.

>Statement:

<Let’s signal that we are ready to talk about neutrality. The terms can be negotiated. We will continue cooperating with NATO just as we do now. We will create a common European budget to fund our army. We will work on rearmament. But we need to talk, writes Goncharenko.

>>2927699
It's obvious that the poster was referring to degrees of militarization. One of the goals of the US in Ukraine and Iran is to cause enough trouble in Eurasia that the EU can go ahead in pursuing an Americanized budget and cut social spending for arms spending, while maintaining its dependence on US weapons and energy. That plan has worked amazingly well for now. The next step would be to blow up the EU from the inside or weaken it further by helping elect the faux-MAGA eurosceptics and scam artists like Weidel and Le Pen, which also seems to be going well as far-right parties are leading across the board, in part due to the economic turmoil imposed on Europe by the US harming the incumbent liberals. We're witnessing the Yeltsinification of Europe brought about by the convergence of the wills of a faction of Europorky, the US, and Russia. It's an interesting trainwreck.

>>2927706
I can already see it on Xitter
>Erm ackshually the people voted for Zelensky, sooo why do other people get to disagree with him and slow down his decision making?
I sincerely hope this conflict gets immediately forgotten by libs, because they’ve really pulled out all the stops to “prove” that the purest democracy is one which revolves around a single individual, for whom all is worth sacrificing, whose lies are but clever tricks to fool the enemy, whose ministers are fanatically loyal until corruption reveals their pro-Russian agenda, who can expect everyone to willingly lay down their lives to protect his mandate in perpetuity, etc

Like, I get libs are fucking stupid and their awareness of what a dictator is probably comes down to portraits of someone wearing a beret with sunglasses, but at what point do they even start to flinch at what is deemed necessary to “protect democracy” in Ukraine?

>>2927713
I am sorry but this is nothing but a speculative fiction based on wishful thinking. There is no empirical evidence of such happening ever. Even USA fiasco will dissipate after midterms. On the contrary, there are evidence of decade long actual fascist dictatorships forming in similar conditions that did not end in socialist revolutions but just fade into liberalism again.

Russian journalist Leonid Ragozin is getting kicked the fuck out of Latvia for not being pro-Ukraine enough, the irony of course is NAFOids gloating and telling him to enjoy the lack of free press in Russia.

>>2927748

>One of the goals of the US in Ukraine and Iran is to cause enough trouble in Eurasia that the EU can go ahead in pursuing an Americanized budget and cut social spending for arms spending, while maintaining its dependence on US weapons and energy.

But they have been cutting social expenditures since the fall of the USSR.
The point of the GINI values regressing across all neolib states to points of high inequality, since the 90s is that it's not speculation to argue whether it's Russia's fault, or Russia's miscalculation, or not that the SMO served to european bourgeoisie interests. Because it's not Russia's fault or Russia's miscalculation. You could argue they are using this towards more militarism or not, but the graphs tell the story that it's a mixed bag. Since the 90s, they reduced, after 2014, the 2% pledge, they have been pushing for it. But in both scenarios the SMO isn't exactly a decisive factor.

>>2927785
Not saying it's Russia's fault per se, the poster above said that. They are one factor though. The SMO benefits American porky primarily and through that gives an opportunity for Euro-Atlanticist-Militarist porky and Right-Atlanticist-Comprador porky to renew militarization, open suppression of civil society elements they find uncomfortable and labor etc.

>>2927813
Anon, the reality is not that the SMO benefits American porkies, the reality is that the porkies benefit from an inactive, dull, propagandized and lenient population. That's it. They don't need an SMO to be reactionary. Their population will uncritically accept the Nayirah al-Sabahs, the Douma chemical attacks, the Saddam Hussein WMDs, the Maduro is a dictator and drug trafficker, and they will do nothing. Note that all my examples are fabrications, point being: They don't need actions, because they can invent them, because they know they get little to no push back.
