just remember to post them in the booru when you come across them
>>8064Before you point me to the lefty.booru FAQ, lemme tell you that I've already read it. I know booru.org has a Patreon and that donating to it will somehow help get rid of the ads.
But how does the process of removing ads from your booru actually work? I imagine the admin has to donate once and that's it. Is that right?
>>8064I hid them with CSS which changed the appearance of the booru to that of a SFW designated booru. This was allowed by the site administration after I asked them because this particular booru is like 99% SFW. They couldn't figure out how to properly convert the booru designation from NSFW to SFW so I had to implement this CSS workaround.
Instead of porn ads, the boorus marked as SFW have a message at the bottom asking everyone to donate to the patreon which helps to cover the costs of the servers.
At one point there were enough donations that the ads could be removed across the network, but not anymore.
>>8072I see, thanks for your reply.
That sucks. I was thinking of making a booru but the ads are extremely distracting, they take up a lot of space on the screen and make pages load much slower. I wonder when the admin is going to get enough donations to let people remove ads again.
But it's incredible that you could manage to do it, leftybooru looks awesome in general.
>>8075You can set a booru as SFW in the creation process so the only ad will be for the booru patreon.
But right now the booru creation process is closed while the admins develop new software to combat spam.
>>8078Yeah, the problem is that I wanna make a booru mainly for NSFW content.
From what you've told me and what I've seen in the support forum, booru.org actually kinda sucks. There's a lot of things that the top staff can't do that should be possible by default, like un-banning IPs (because banning them is permanent), changing between SFW and NSFW designation, or colouring/grouping tags without having to edit your CSS.
Isn't there another free alternative? I guess not.
>>8088Unfortunately there's no free alternative and no other sites like it where you can easily make your own booru.
I do what I can within the limitations.
Hopefully the site admins will eventually be able to properly upgrade the site.
>>10680I am not a mod on either site. on here I'm just an ordinary poster.
leftybooru does not and will not have any site mods in the moderation.
>>10685just like every single post on the site made before the split.
>>13104 *sigh*
give me a minute i'll fix it.
>>15353THIS, PLEASE.
The amount of buffoons that leave their post untagged is fucking enraging.
>>33221>>33226Yep, this. booru.org still runs Gelbooru Beta 0.1.11 released in 2008 (with only major issue patches since then, pic1) and now it's officially dying (pic2).
For those reasons, I'd appreciate if users would give feedback on the new site before we migrate, so any problems can be fixed before they become a problem.
https://booru.nuclearchange.net (temporary address, will buy proper domain when the migration is going ahead)
tor:
http://booru.nuclearcdboxafziza4mgohcwhzfjiyg6zeslnry33pepsgtur2wyeyd.onion/ (same)
i2p: leftybooru.i2p (check a registry, or the front page of the above links)
If you have an existing account and want access, get in the Matrix room and ask.
This new address is currently still a development test server, so any changes will be wiped when the migration happens.
>>33258>webm and mp4 still can't be uploadedPain
It's a good start but the formatting needs some worked, it's too cramped and over sized IMO. Also the files and comments in it are outdated by about a few months worth of content. Pics rel.
>>33272>webm and mp4Good point, I've now enabled them.
That brings up a question on filesize limits. I haven't put much thought into the limit, beyond making sure the largest image already on the booru fits on the new site. Videos are typically far larger than images, and leftypol allows up to 80MB (last I checked), so ideally the booru would match that. Anything bigger, as well as lots of stuff smaller, should be going straight to a site with the infrastructure (and funds) for it like archive.org.
>Also the files and comments in it are outdated by about a few months worth of content.True, I should have mentioned that. Downloading the content, processing and updating does take a while and includes manual steps, so this test data is out-of-date, which will not be a problem once it's synchronized later, when the proper migration happens.
>it's too cramped and over sized IMOCan you give some more specific detail? Just to make sure I actually fix it. (screenshots definitely help)
>crampedIs picrel an improvement? (quick example with bigger font size and larger gaps in the nav menu)
>>33279>Is picrel an improvement? Definitely better. I'd also fix the same thing with the comments (which is why I screencapped the test booru and the current booru as comparison of formatting)
>ideally the booru would match that. Yeah I agree, 80mB should be the current limit IMO or maybe 85mB since some 80mB files are more like 80.5mB which means that a file that appears to be within limit will actually not upload. For files exceeding 85mB I'd suggest leftypol create a video-file archive or something like that, which would scrape the site of mp4s and webms and upload them to a MEGA-type site. RWBYg has an equivalent where they archived literally everything RWBY related.
>Can you give some more specific detail? You've fixed it for the images, but for the comment section see my prior response: Pic 1 is the test booru, pic 2 is the current booru. Pic 2 is how the comment section SHOULD look. Pic 2 is literally all over the place with text and tags.
As a side note the Account Login page has a blank button for the "Log In" option, appearing as a White Rectangle. I dunno if its just unfinished but just so you know.
Finally I'd say, if possible have a darkmode or some similar CSS that would allow for a dark-version of the booru, with inverted coloration so that it doesn't burn the eyes at night or in low-light environments.
>>33282Added dark theme based on Tomorrow imageboard theme (currently only works in your browser is set to prefer dark mode).
Increased font size and added margins between nav buttons at the top.
Is the 'Log In' option still blank? I assume it was a themeing issue based on your browser settings like dark mode. Otherwise, we might need to debug together (if you are on Matrix, we can use the #leftybooru:matrix.org room).
I haven't changed the comments page yet.
>>33343Log-In is fixed, thanks. Darkmode looks perfect, not too dark or light.
The side-scroll comments in my personal opinion are just extra clutter. I was talking about
https://booru.nuclearchange.net/comment/list Where the tags are strangely listed as the following, instead of being linked and to the side like in the old booru.
>22901: chad character:alunya meta:tagme meta:transparent_background shell >>33344I'll work on that page in the morning. I agree the current one needs to be changed, although do you think the old booru has it right, or is there a way to improve it?
It seems as if a well-tagged image would take up a lot of vertical space for no reason. Is there even any reason why the tags should be on that page at all? The image thumbnail, ID, date and uploader name should be all the metadata needed to understand which image the comment is on. (I don't use that page, take my perspective with a grain of salt)
How about something like picrel?
>>33345The old booru's comments page is pretty solid but perhaps removing tags from the comment section altogetheris right
>How about something like picrel? Yeah, much better IMO
>>33394Ok. It looks better now. I was looking at the bottom of individual image posts and I think the HCaptcha button and Edit buttons are a bit too large, I'd make them smaller, pic rel.
Also while the reply function is good, there's no way to report a comment in case of spam. pic 2 rel.
Furthermore for images I wouldn't have the meta information out open like that. Take a look at rule34.xxx's post pages. While tags are visible to the side on a post, the meta information is hidden until you click on edit (pic 3 rel)
>>33395>Furthermore for images I wouldn't have the meta information out open like that.I just realized it's almost all redundant information already on the side bar, only useful when editing. I should probably retract it until the edit button is clicked, like in that image.
>I think the HCaptcha button and Edit buttons are a bit too large, I'd make them smallerAnd I should also retract the comment form until an 'Add comment' button is clicked.
The reason the HCaptcha button is so large is that's the same size as the captcha box. (It's plain because I just hacked it in to stop HCaptcha being loaded every time without a user interaction.)
>Also while the reply function is good, there's no way to report a comment in case of spam. pic 2 rel.Looks like Shimmie doesn't have that feature yet. I'll add it to their issue tracker.
>>33402Forced to use Tor while banned for bullshit reasons
Good work so far. I noticed the forums have a problem as the Max characters allowed is 512 which is not only a very random number, but not enough for a proper message. I would suggest a 1000 character limit at least, or a 2000 character limit in all honesty, so as to not have multiple posts in case a forum reply is forced to be lengthy.
https://booru.nuclearchange.net/forum/view/1 >>33422I would, but I don't have Matrix at the moment, and I really don't have the time or energy to set that up, I work 8-6 most weeks and I don't even have time for activism anymore, so I at least try to contribute with good posts while also having some fun. in the meta thread I linked only a few of my posts, because my point is that I've been a good faith poster and I didn't break any rules I was aware of, nothing I posted was much different to other responses in that thread.
>not spamming some test booruI made that forum page as a test anyway, and I know that you lurk there as part of the process of making the new booru, so I decided to try my luck and test the features simultaneously.
>512 is definitely too small, I'll bump it up.Keep up the good work. I'm no good at coding and shit like that but I've done a lot of front-end work in the past, so I know how to make shit look better, so I can only try my best to help verbally.
>>33427 >I really appreciate it Glad to hear it, this place could use a little more positivity.
>only one other person has been giving any feedback at all. That would be me lol. I wish I could help more, but all I can do is give feedback, kinda strangled at the moment with my ban but keep posting updates and I'll respond whenever I'm free. For what's basically a single-person project you've done immensely well, most comparable boorus are collaborative efforts with several people. The booru system being all weird recently isn't helping either.
As a side note for Shimmie2 if you want an automatic tagging feature, take a look at
https://github.com/rr-/szurubooru It's got a manual add-on feature that can be helpful in scraping tags for images by searching for other booru's md5 hashes. You could maybe use Python or something like that to integrate it into the nuclearxchange booru.
I hate to ask this because I'd rather not bother you with my problems, seeing how you have plenty of your own, but could you please ask Misato to take a look at my ban? It's tiresome to use Tor because the node is so slow and limited (It took me forever to reply just now).
>>33429>what's basically a single-person project you've done immensely wellWell, most of the work is Shimmie2 so I can't take
all the credit! And the plus side is, doing this has made me add some features to Shimmie2
(For anyone curious, here are the code changes I've made so far
https://codeberg.org/nuclearchange/leftybooru/commits/branch/main , the big clump with my name up the top are exclusive to leftybooru while you can also see my commits to the Shimmie2 code below it)
I'll check out that szurubooru code now. While I'd be very cautious about automatically populating tags (e.g. different tagging styles and aliases), it would still be useful to know which other boorus have a copy of the same image.
>ask MisatoSure, just sent them a quick message pointing to your post in the mod feedback thread, hopefully that all works out. The .onion site is being a bit of a pain, no idea why.
>>33432>just sent them a quick message pointing to your post in the mod feedback threadThanks very much for that. I'll look into setting up a Matrix at some point. I'm massively overworked RN.
>the big clump with my name up the top are exclusive to leftybooru while you can also see my commits to the Shimmie2 code below it) Cool, I'll read through some of it.
>I'd be very cautious about automatically populating tags I think you can turn it on and off manually and make it semi-automatic, where you can look at an upload and use the feature to scrape other sites for it if you want to, but not necessarily automatic all the time. It depends on the booru set up you're going for.
Migration announced: 15th June. Expect a gap of downtime as I scrape the old data, process it and import it, will take a couple of hours if there aren't any new problems.
>>33733Posts rated Questionable or Explicit are now blurred until you hover over them.
You can test it here:
https://lefty.pictures/post/list/rating:q/1Unfortunately the rating was pretty useless on booru.org and downvotes were used instead to mark as explicit, and the default rating was Questionable, so there will be a clean-up effort after the migration now that we have the tools to bulk edit and not have to solve a thousand captchas.
>>33739>have adjustable settings for viewers for whether or not they care for explicit content to be censored or not.Writing final tests for some code to do that now! I realized as I wrote it how annoying it would be for people who don't want explicit content blurred.
Currently anon users default to the global setting, logged-in users can customize their settings.
>I'd say only make images that are labeled explicit be suchI think this is a good idea. Questionable isn't clearly defined anywhere on the booru, but I assume it isn't stuff likely to shock users. It's probably best not to filter it, and at least until the post ratings are fixed up so that hundreds of random posts aren't misrated Questionable.
>>33741Update: now active.
>Questionable isn't clearly defined anywhere on the booruCorrecting this: it is clearly defined at
https://lefty.booru.org/help/ratings.php >>33906That being said.
Great. Fucking. Migration. Didn't know i needed all of this these new features. So much better.
>>33911cancel that and delet these two posts pls, I can't delet
>>33911 because of a password issue.
>>33906I'll try and fix that, or at least not make it click the wrong link.
Shimmie (the base software) expects Source to always be a simple link and I had just quickly hacked a fix to make it show plain text unless it starts with 'http', which you've just proved was a false assumption; starting with 'http' doesn't mean someone only entered a link.
>>33907Glad you love it! booru.org was basically stuck on 15 year old software, so even the relatively lightweight Shimmie is far ahead in most areas. The tag autocomplete is like night and day.
BOORU MODS PLEASE REMOVE THIS EDIT I MADE
https://lefty.pictures/post/view/24470I MADE A MISTAKE AND FORGOT TO EDIT THE WAGNER PATCH FROM THE ORIGINAL, THE EDIT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ENTIRELY WAR ON DRUGS THEMED.
I'VE REUPLOADED THE PROPER EDIT UNDER THE SAME TAGS. PLEASE REMOVE THIS ONE.
>>39411No need to yell everywhere, comrade. One report is enough, we're not always online so sometimes it takes a little time to respond.
The initial copy is deleted now :)
>>39861>Someone, somehow is deleting uploads for NO reason.I'm looking into this now.
I can't find the file you attached anywhere in my hourly backups (there are no 3000x3500 images at all there). That would either mean it was deleted within the hour (before a backup was made) or wasn't successfully uploaded. I'm guessing you are sure it was posted, so I'm taking this very seriously. (if you happen to have the date uploaded, such as a file date modified timestamp on your disk, that would be helpful)
I've downloaded the list of files currently on the booru and compared them to all the files in the hourly backups, to find all files which were uploaded during or after the June 2024 migration and are no longer on the booru (as long as they were up long enough to be saved in the hourly backups) - I can't see any Leninhat, ushanka or Stalinstasches.
I also checked my old lefty.booru.org backup and couldn't see any in there matching the description. How long ago would you guess that image was uploaded? (if it was over a year ago, it would have been on the old site, which rules out a software issue)
Let me know if there are any others you remember which have gone missing.
>>39861>On top of that, people aren't fucking tagging their uploads at all. Random images have maybe 1-3 tags at a time.I can add a minimum 5 tag requirement on uploads, rejecting their uploads with an error message if they don't have enough tags.
I didn't do it before because I don't want to discourage people from uploading. IMO a garbage tagme upload is usually better than no post at all, unless it's a repeated issue like with those lazy Grace uploads. But now that I think about it, it's probably fine to enforce a minimum 5 tags. Even low-content posts which are harder for new users to tag should still be able to reach 5 tags.
As a related side note, I've built this feature a few days ago to help keep track of tag quality:
https://github.com/shish/shimmie2/pull/1504It's not added yet, because Shimmie changed how user permissions work and I still need to handle that with our code before I can upgrade leftybooru.
>>401165 tag minimum is a good idea, it'll also help filter out some of the very low effort content
>>40115 Don't have an exact time, because I uploaded weeks ago but I THINK it was Feb 6th. I uploaded it, fixed some tags and moved on, so if it got deleted within an hour I wasn't aware.
I'm vaguely aware of some files I remember being on the booru under certain tags not coming up, but no certainty on tags not being changed/fixed and since the old booru got deleted I can't check if my hunches are correct or not.
>>39861None of the staff say they deleted the image, and I don't see any reason why they would, nor is it easy to click by accident.
Maybe someone fat-fingered a bulk delete, but I don't think that's likely.
Post numbers increment each time a post is added to the list, so if a post is uploaded, that number goes up one. A missing post number means an uploaded post is gone.
The only missing post numbers added between Jan 31 and Feb 20 are: (dates in UTC)
>24528 [3rd Feb] Deleted, off-topic TikTok of someone pouring piss bottles on themselves>24532 [4/5th Feb] Meme video attached, will confirm with staff if it was deleted or not.>24534 [5th Feb] Deleted, off-topic generic IRL porn>24540 [7th Feb] ….I can't find it in my hourly backupsUnfortunately the server only keeps access and error logs for 14 days (the default) so I can't dig much further, but if you saw that post page and fixed tags then it was successfully uploaded to the site, so I assume it was #24540. If your browser has
https://lefty.pictures/post/view/24540 in the browser history, then it means you visited the view page before the post disappeared.
___
Rodong has enabled the trash extension, which adds a 'recycle bin' to allow deleted files to be recovered. I'm not sure if it would help this specific situation but it might save us pain down the line.
>>40433Have you ever logged into the new site (lefty.pictures), as opposed to the old site with all the ads (lefty.booru.org) ?
We migrated from the dying booru.org site to a new site in June 2024, and while we could look at and copy over account names, their posts, comments, favorites, etc., we don't have access to passwords and so we can't copy them over. So users have to claim their old accounts on the new site, until then they won't allow you to log in. Looking at the error message on the server, that's my guess of what's happening.
If you have a matrix.org account, send a message to me (
[email protected]) and I'll set your account up with a password so you can log in.
>>40551Also the same thing for anarcha_feminist
tags like

But yeah I'll forward that to the Matrix chat, thanks.
