my perspective is i see it as just taking pride in their identity and not letting the "haters" create language that only "people who dislike x" are allowed to use. like think about it from the other side, it would be strange to allow homophobes to monopolize the word faggot for the rest of history. it kind of feels like giving them a means of signaling to eachother about how "based and bigoted" they are because no one else can use that word. and you do see slurs used like this on /pol/ and other fascist sites all the time, as a way to force someone to "prove" how bigoted they are by being able to freely say faggot or uyghur. taking that away from them by casualizing those words is a reasonable position imo.
