Maybe this is something I'm supposed to "unlearn" but I really have trouble grasping anti-individualism. What I mean by that specifically is not necessarily what you may think I mean by that so be patient. This isn't just a "lefty" thing, I have always hated it on "the right" as well:
>why are women like this?
>why are men like this?
>why are blacks like this?
>why are whites like this?
>why are hispanics like this?
>why are muslims like this?
>why are jews like this?
>why are christians like this?
>why are hindus like this?
>why are millenials like this?
>why are zoomers like this?
>why are X like this?
etc. etc. etc.
It gets very tiresome. When large groups of people get monolithized and stereotyped, it's very lazy. If one points this out in a conversation one is likely to get treated either as neurodivergent…
>hahahaha you fucking retard when I complain about all people in group X I mean a very specific type of X and you're supposed to use your powers of assumption to figure out what I mean without asking me or demanding I clarify.
… or they just double down:
>Ummmmmmmm Not all X are like that just 99.999999999999% ??? … hahaha you fucking faggot do you really expect me to dedicate all my resources and brainpower to caring about the 0.000000000000001% of X? Fuck them.
…. or they just accuse their interlocutor of being a member of the group in question (whether this is true or not need not necessarily matter to them):
>nice argument but you're X
I've found this annoying and typical on the "right" but very dangerous on the "left" because it undermines one of the important things that makes the left different from the right historically: Being able to treat people as individually human, being able to treat them as innocent until proven guilty, not lumping them in with the groups they come from, eschewing collective punishment.
It's passé to point this out, but it took centuries for people in any country, of any class, to win this basic treatment. It's a shame this treatment does not still extend to everyone. But I think the "left" especially on this site, are too eager to dismiss this all as spooky or unimportant or even simply liberal. Rather than extending this principle to everyone, they want to go back to a time where people are considered guilty by default based on characteristics beyond their control.
I don't claim to know how "most" or "normal" people feel about this, and maybe I am completely in the wrong and there is some reason I don't understand why all of this needs to be thrown in the trash.
