Besides, short hair as a trend comes and goes once in a while. Last time it was really popular was back in the 80s and early 90s, and it's not totally unpopular right now.
I finally got to say hi to the cute girl from the theatre class for the first time in almost five months, lol. I ran into her when I was walking by the seating area near the university cafeteria. She was sitting at a table on her computer and I walked up to her and said “hi, how are your classes going”, to which she replied “fine”, and I responded that “I am really backed up and I am worried I bombed a test last week, though I am still getting As in all my classes, but I have to go study, bye, see you around”. I then walked away and I don’t think she said bye, lol. I really wanted to talk to her longer, but I could tell she was busy studying and I didn’t want to act too clingy/annoying the first time I talked to her in almost five months, because that would quickly make her uncomfortable and ruin my chances of ever having successful small talk that could create a friendship that could theoretically evolve into a relationship. As I have told you guys before, my last encounter with her five months ago was very awkward as I went up and said “hi, how are your finals going” to her in front of two of her female friends she was in a conversation with, and I was scared that they told her I was a weirdo, lmao. I know it was a super small interaction (it probably lasted less then a minute), and she only said one word to me (“fine” seems to be her go to word/response when I try to make small talk with her, lol), but I honestly think it went pretty well all things considered. I was scared she was going to tell me that she didn’t remember who I was or say that she didn’t want me to talk to her, so the fact that she recognized me and wasn’t rude and/or creeped out feels like a big win, lol.
My mother told me that she saw her going to a different coffee shop a couple blocks from the campus, so I plan on studying their (they got better tea/coffee anyway), and if I run into her their I will try to engage in a longer conversation and see if she is interested in engaging in more serious small talk. I also am trying to figure out if their is something I can text her about because I still have her number, as I was thinking of letting her know about some plays that were on in the area (we were in a theatre class last semester and she is into artsy stuff), but I have to be really careful as I don’t want her to block my number. If I don’t meet her again for the rest of the semester, or I do meet her a couple more times, but she dose not say anything more then “fine” to my attempts at small talk, then I will have to accept the sad reality that their is no hope of me ever being friends with, or let alone having a relationship with, the cute girl from the theatre class, and I will give up trying to talk to her. I would then probably wait until after I graduate from college in two years and am living on my own to find a girlfriend, as it feels like a waste trying to get a girlfriend at this university, because me living with my parents and being detached from the university social scene that makes it nearly impossible. It seems like all the students only talk to people in small social circles that either live in dorms with them, are in sororities/fraternities with them, and/or are in social media chat groups (especially instagram, if you don’t have that app, your basically cut off from everyone, lmao), and if you are like me and are not a part of any of that because I live with my parents and am not on instagram, it is basically impossible to make friends, let alone get a girlfriend, lol. I told my parents that I am not doing the masters program if they do not get me my own place, because I don’t want to go through this bullshit any longer of going to a university while I am living with my parents and I can’t talk to anybody, lol. I am even willing to do the masters program part time and get some small job to help pay for the apartment/studio, but if they don’t let me have my own place during the masters program, I am just going to give up on the community college history instructor career (I need a masters degree in history to do that), and just get some shitty retail job (probably a barista, which is ironic, because I always enjoyed tea houses/coffee shops but I never thought I was going to work in one, lol) after I graduate so I can have my own place, because my gut tells me that living with my parents is preventing me from improving my social skills and stopping me from being able make friends and get a girlfriend. Do my fellow anons have any advice for me in this situation?

I don't have any advice but living alone isn't necessarily going to improve your social skills and rent can be a real bitch depending on where you live. Even if you moved to a dorm, people tend to have their own lives by the time they get a master's, especially jobs, so they don't necessarily care about socializing as much. I don't have a good answer about where to get socialization instead but you should be careful about trying to pressure your parents into buying you more things, it can be both bad in and of itself and also bad for your relationship with them.
