There isn't any group actively working to resolve the contradictions of the current American national project. I find there to be many "vulgar internationalists" who are nationalist for a country that isn't there's while predicating their revolutionary politics solely around a disdain for "America", wherein the nation state must be destroyed and no revolution is truly possible here. This is why you go to a communist meeting and there's 3 hours of discussion on Cuba and Cuban policies or USSR history, or whatever, but rarely if ever is there a discussion of a path forward for the nation state wherein the party is located. This creates a fundamental disconnect between your 'revolutionary' and the masses. Its why every one I've ever talked to about politics has some story about a communist spending their entire discussion glazing and worshipping places that neither party has been to. It's easier to admire a revolution elsewhere than to build the painful foundations of one here.
Predicating one's entire politics on a disdain for America is not a strategy; its an identity. The masses you seek to lead do not share this purely negative orientation. They have a complex, often contradictory, relationship with the national project that must be considered by the vanguard.
The anarchists believe that the nation state should be wholly destroyed with the absence of the nation state bringjng liberation but this seems Utopian based on historical materialism. There are no other places in earth were the nation state as a framework has been left behind. Even in places like Africa where many of those countries were created by Europeans drawing borders, post-revolution the nation state remains. (See: Burkina Faso, Congo pre-lumumba assassination). This tells me that a vanguard within the US would need to work towards resolving the contradictions and providing a national narrative that is explicitly anti-imperialist and de-colonial, while maintaining the nation state's already existing borders and existence within the global, internationalist sphere. This is much, much more difficult that 1) dogmatically believing the material conditions of today are the same as 1917 Russia or similar 2) believing that America can simply be destroyed and we can return to the days before it existed. Both are fundamentally reactionary takes. The goal of the vanguard isn't to march on the streets demanding better represenatjon, but to build counter hegonomy, counter power which can challenge the existing social contract/narrative towards something which releases the working masses from their chains, while understanding the limitations created by the historical material conditions the nation-state currently exists in.
