The US simply doesn't have the material conditions for a proper revolution right now. I think the people calling us treatlers are really fucking obnoxious, but they aren't entirely wrong.
Dialectically, communism happens when you reach the point where the public is no longer able to enjoy the supposed upsides of the current system. And in America, that's simply not where we're at. Conditions are definitely worse here than they were 20 years ago, but we still have enough to cling onto that the risk of losing what we have outweighs the potential benefits of something new. No, the US, at least in the short term, is headed down one of two paths, both of which would extend capitalism, rather than extinguish it; fascism, lead by the political right, or demsoc reforms, lead by the political "left", both of which are backed by the bourgeois.
Another problem is that we've outsourced much of the more essential proletarian labor, things like gathering of materials, manufacturing, and in a lot of cases, even agriculture, to the third world. So while we do have a proletariat here, it's smaller and less powerful than it really "should" be for a successful revolution to take place.
Don't get me wrong, things will change eventually, but we need to wait longer for the cup to runneth empty; for the rest of the world to decouple with us to the point where we can no longer get our treats.

Here's my writeup on DSA not bringing in many latino members in latino majority areas of the sunbelt. Hint:this is mostly about the afterlife of the chicano movement and the urban geography of the sunbelt, but tell me what you think. I think my analysis can be reasonably extended to the other national. organizations. Also, this is one of the few longer form things I've written since high school, so let me know if I can clean any of this up:
This is just me firing from the hip on what I think to be the cause of the observed white professional makeup of DSA, specifically in latino majority areas of the United States.
For a while I've been trying to figure out why this is and have come to the conclusion that it may have to do with Raza Unida, Berets and more local groups getting crushed or folded into the dem apparatus relatively quickly with the "official" end of segregation across the sunbelt. (This 'conclusion' spurring a hearty chunk of latino professionals moving to the outer suburban rings and adopting more mainline conservo-liberal politics if they didn't already possess them.). So that leaves us with some options:one is the LA case with a still extant dense core of latinos that was able to give rise to groups like Unión del Barrio and the LA tenants union, whose mass activations this summer warrant further study. Another pole would be San Antonio with almost no urban core by comparison and a web of non profit/civil society type organizations that claim a heritage dating back to the high water mark of the Chicano movement. Note the usage of Chicano here. In specifically trying to maintain a liberal tinted memory of the movement as a vehicle for gaining political rights, these organizations leave the notion of class warfare at the curb, with class tension as only a footnote of their historiography. With the 'legacy' formations maintaining such an image, I don't think it should come as a surprise that they have done a poor job of inspiring the organization of the generations of Chicanos that have grown up since the dirges for the original Chicano wave were sung, much less that of the countless others who have arrived from various parts of the Patria Grande to labor in the guts of the Colossus of the North.
This leaves us with various combinations of DSA being either surpassed by the militancy of newish local orgs or local conditions of inert democratic hegemony with associated social clubs of legacy organizations (especially in red states) pushing broad swathes of latinos to check out of politics.
This is not to say that DSA locals in heavily latino areas of the sunbelt don't conduct outreach to latinos in the form of ICE warning systems, know your rights training and other such activities, but that seems to be the extent of it. I lay the separation of professionals- both white and latino from the latino proletarii by the urban geographies of the sunbelt to blame for this, but I don't know how to solve this. How I wish the devoted wandering cadres of PSL and black blockers conjured up by the conservolib media were real. Better yet a unified rail riding IWW-Magonista detachment.
