Your mistake is in thinking that a stable liberal democracy is what precludes class struggle rather than being a sign of it being relatively absent. Liberal democracies can only function when class tensions are operating at a low level, and as such it's a symptom rather than a cause. However in case you haven't noticed, America's liberal democracy is on shaky ground. The current government is basically open about its desire to abolish it.
