>"My people. Sons, and daughters of Iran… This much, I vow… The history of these days will be written in blood… By crushing the armies of our enemy, by seizing the weapons they thought to turn against us, we were fighting for our very existence! But if there are those who would deny us peace, refuse our rightful place in the universe, then, we will unleash such terrible vengeance, that generations yet unborn will cry out in anguish! The enemy may shatter our bodies, but they cannot break our spirit… Even now, they advance on our homeworld to seize by force, what they cannot claim by right… They cannot imagine what awaits them…. We will SMITE the invaders from our skies! Though they sweep over our lands like the sands of winter, never again we´ll bow before them… Never again endure their oppression… Never again endure their tyranny… We will strike without warning, and without mercy, fighting as one hand, one heart, one soul… We will shatter their dreams, and haunt their nightmares… Drenching our ancestor's graves with their blood! And as our last breath tears their lungs… as we rise again from the ruins of our cities… they will know, Iran…belongs…to the Iranians."
What did he mean by

Dr Richard Wolff outline some reasons for the US-Israeli War on Iran:

1) Distraction from Epstein Scandal, moves headlines away from the Epstein Files

2) Pacify population away from the real narrative on increasing economic inequality and cost of living crisis

Also Dr Richard Wolff highlights Russia and Ukraine

3) An attempt to strongman and reverse the percieved or real, inevitable or not, decline of the American Empire

1) The oil crisis can be exploited by oil exporters and is negative for those oil importers, Russia will be able to have more influx of cash from its cheaper oil sales, it will be able to fund much more the War in Ukraine and even take victory.

2) If the west loses in Ukraine and Iran, it very much spells the end for the NATO empire totally.

What do other people think are some reasons behind the war, I would say:

1) Israel as an Anglo-American watchdog is continued to be protected so the Arab world stays disunited and continues to be client states with its rich being imperial collaborators

2) The reason the watchdog of Israel exists anyhow is for the NATO empires grasp on trade routes and natural resources in the region, which is for the purposes of companies like British Petroleum

3) The continued legacy of general colonial control of the region continues as we have outlined for its geographical importance, Britain has skin in the game for their importance on the world stage, so does France

4) Relative to that geography, just as Palestine is a gate into Asia, Iran is another gate towards China, which the NATO empire seeks to topple, get rid of a state that has business with China in terms of oil, therefore weaken China and isolate it further, destroy the socialist projecta like they are doing with Cuba

5) Generally do not want an independent and self sufficient Arab nation, this threatens regional control, also never want a potential monetary rival, see Gaddaffis Libya for results

6) The capitalists warmongering only satiates their profits whether that is prior to war, during war and after war. Iran goes and the entire region is a subservient market, you can sell your goods, you can exploit labour to produce, you can extract materials for cheap. Also see trade routes, no pesky 'terrorists' and rivals for shipping, yay for neoliberals.

7) Greater Israel and the Israel Lobby which has influence on western states. Yes we know that Israel is mainly a landed aircraft carrier for NATO, a militant panopticon. But the Israelis want to genocide the entire Arab peoples, gain their lebensraum.

8) As Dr Wolff said the decline of the American Empire, but I would further argue this is very much to combat the decline of the entire NATO empire, therefore hyperimperialism by insane warfare, this gangster phase of imperialism, that seeks to go back to this almost official and classical colonialism of the industrial era, because the RBIO is over, because 21st century imperialism and neocolonialism can barely be kept together with growing multipolarity

9) The zionists, can go full genocide on Palestine, do their whole epstein island plan for Gaza and the west bank, get rid of their enemies across the region, all that Jewish Supremacist shit

10) The hitlerian attitudes of rubio and trump, this geniuine thinking of we are the garden and they are the jungle. Just another country in the domino to genocide the third world, the neocolonies are not getting in line, so time for world war three and fascism at home.

>>2735564

The economic/imperialism angle is the reason this war was inevitable and why it was also going to happen under a blue government.

But the reason it's happening right now and in the most retarded way possible is because the vision of the people calling the shots is distorted to an absurd degree by a thick lens of unwarranted supremacy (religious, cultural, racial).

>Why did they pull parachutes
<Removing parachutes from military aircraft may sound peculiar, but KC-135s are not like other aircraft. They seldom have mishaps, and the likelihood a KC-135 crew member would ever need to use a parachute is extremely low.

<However, a lot of time, manpower and money goes into buying, maintaining and training to use parachutes. With the Air Force hungry for cost-saving efficiency under its Air Force for Smart Operations in the 21st Century Program, commonly known as AFSO 21, the parachutes were deemed obsolete.

<Tech. Sgt. Chastity Forrest is in charge of life support for the 18th Air Refueling Squadron, the flying squadron for Air Force Reserve Command's 931st Air Refueling Group. She and the squadron's flyers were "thrilled" to learn hours of annual parachute training were disappearing as well, Sergeant Forrest said.

<"It's one less thing for them to worry about," she said, referring also to the time saved by not having to include parachutes in preflight procedures.

Hegseth irked by suggestion war is widening, says don’t worry about Hormuz
At his briefing, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was trying to use tough language to project that the war is going well, to fight back against some of the headlines.
One of the things he was very irked by were headlines saying the war is widening. He said the only thing that’s widening is our advantage. But obviously, the war is widening if you look at all the countries around the region facing missile strikes.
When it comes to the Strait of Hormuz, this is a very big concern for the American people because they have seen gas prices rise in some cases by 60 cents a gallon ($0.19 per litre) since this started. There was already an affordability crisis.
Hegseth said when it comes to the Strait of Hormuz, in his words, you don’t need to worry about it. He said accusations that they didn’t realise this could be an issue were unfounded, that they knew this could happen.
Well, the question is: If they knew it could happen, then why is it happening?

Trump says US will be hitting Iran hard over ‘next week’
Trump has said in an interview that US forces would be carrying out intense strikes against Iranian targets in the coming days, as the war escalates throughout the Middle East as it heads into its third week.
“We’re going to be hitting them very hard over the next week,” Trump told Fox News Radio.

Hezbollah claims attack on drone base in northern Israel
Lebanese group says it struck the Giva Drone Control Base in Safed in northern Israel with a rocket salvo.
This launch was part of the “al-Quds Day” operations”, Hezbollah said in a statement.

Trump administration trying to project ‘image of confidence’ in war
Trump and Hegseth are “trying to project an image of confidence and success” and reassure the American people of the success of the war on Iran so far, says Mohamad Elmasry, of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
Trump no doubt is doing this because he has seen the polling data, which shows that it is “in all likelihood the lowest rated war at the start of a war in American history,” Elmasry told Al Jazeera.
“People are seeing gas prices rise and four more US soldiers were killed in Iraq yesterday,” he added.
Elmasry said Hegseth has boasted on numerous times about the US crushing Iran’s military capabilities, but he is “clearly underestimating the Iranian military and that feeds into some of this US propaganda that we’ve been seeing”.

Either way they not only don't care about the people on the ships (that's a given)
They very actively, transparently are trying to put more people in physical danger. Basically it's like they are trying to burn ships (loaded with oil)
Why?

https://ddgeopolitics.substack.com/p/ghosts-in-the-terrain
>“Israeli media are reporting that Hezbollah’s ‘ghosts’ are back at the northern borders. In southern Lebanon, fighters are emerging from hidden positions, striking with precision and creating a severe operational crisis for the Israeli army. Conventional forces are struggling to respond to this underground, highly coordinated network, showing how Hezbollah can turn the terrain itself into a strategic advantage.”
>Hezbollah today operates across a multi-front strategic environment unlike anything the movement has faced in its forty-year history

>The Southern Front: The Historical Core

>The Lebanese border with occupied Palestine remains the primary axis of confrontation — and it is now fully active. Israeli ground incursions into southern Lebanon have transformed what was long a deterrence line into a live theater of war.
>Reuters, sourcing four Lebanese contacts directly familiar with Hezbollah military operations, reported on March 10, 2026 that Hezbollah has returned to its roots in guerrilla warfare, operating in small decentralized units, rationing anti-tank rocket use, and deliberately avoiding communication devices vulnerable to Israeli signals intelligence. The elite Radwan fighters — who had withdrawn from the south following the 2024 ceasefire — have returned. Their focus: Khiyam, near the intersection of Lebanon’s border with both Israel and Syria, which Hezbollah identifies as the most likely launchpoint for any full Israeli ground invasion.
>An Israeli security source told Reuters that far from looking to de-escalate, Hezbollah appears to be stabilizing its ranks and executing decisions with increasing effectiveness. The group has reportedly assigned four deputies to every field commander — a redundancy architecture designed to ensure operational continuity even as Israel targets leadership.
>The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) assessed that the rocky hills of southern Lebanon create natural chokepoints that restrict heavy Israeli armor to major hardened roadways — rendering conventional forces systematically vulnerable to anti-tank guided missiles, IEDs, and ambushes. Lebanese army Brigadier General Nicolas Thabet told international media in November 2025 that since deploying south of the Litani River, troops had discovered 74 tunnels, 175 rocket launchers, and 58 missiles. One complex in the Zibqin Valley — roughly 100 meters long, outfitted with power, ventilation, first-aid infrastructure, and food stores — likely served as a Hezbollah command center.
>Majed describes this precisely:
>“In response, Hezbollah is employing a military doctrine built around extensive missile capabilities and deeply entrenched defensive infrastructure, capabilities developed precisely for the scenario of a large-scale Israeli ground advance.”

>The Eastern Front: Syria’s New Wild Card

>To the east, Syria’s political transformation has introduced a volatile new variable. The rise of Ahmad al-Sharaa — widely known as Abu Mohammad al-Jolani — to the Syrian presidency has reshaped the Lebanese-Syrian frontier in ways that remain dangerously fluid.
>As Majed documents:
>“Syrian airspace has been used or tolerated for Israeli aircraft launching strikes toward Lebanon, alongside attempts of Israeli airborne insertions into several villages in the Beqaa Valley, including Nabi Chit.”
>Syrian officials and media figures have accused Hezbollah of attacking Syrian territory — accusations Hezbollah supporters have firmly rejected. Al Jazeera confirmed that Lebanese military sources reported Israeli ground troops present at numerous points a few kilometers inside Lebanese territory.

>The Internal Front: Lebanon’s Fragile Political Arena

>The third potential front is the most politically charged. Lebanon’s deep sectarian divisions and economic collapse create conditions for internal instability if the government were to attempt to forcibly disarm Hezbollah. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called Hezbollah’s military reentry a ‘strategic mistake.’ But retired U.S. Army Colonel Seth Krummrich, former chief of staff for Special Operations Command Central, told Al Jazeera directly that confronting Hezbollah battalions in combat would ‘deplete the army.’
>Majed does not mince words:
>“With the government reportedly backed by the United States, seeking to drive a confrontation between the Lebanese army and the resistance, and encouraging some domestic groups to clash with Hezbollah, this internal front remains volatile and could open at any moment.”

>THE REGIONAL NETWORK: HEZBOLLAH IS NOT ALONE

>The three-front analysis would be incomplete without the broader network of allied actors whose involvement could fundamentally alter the trajectory of the conflict. As Majed writes:
>“Armed factions within the Iraqi resistance have already signaled that they could move toward the Syrian theater if Damascus were to take military action against Lebanon under the leadership of Ahmad al-Sharaa.”
>That signal is not hypothetical. According to the Critical Threats Project, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed 29 separate operations against U.S. and Israeli-linked targets across the region in just the first week of March 2026. The IRGC declared on March 8 that Iran is prepared to sustain ‘at least a six-month intense war at the current pace of operations,’ claiming strikes on more than 200 sites linked to U.S. and Israeli bases across the region. The ACLED March 2026 Special Issue confirmed Iran’s retaliatory campaign struck the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain, and targeted vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
>Majed identifies the organizing principle:
>“If multiple pressures were to unfold simultaneously, Hezbollah would be confronting a strategic landscape unlike any it has faced before: a military confrontation with Israel in the south, rising tensions along the Syrian frontier in the east, and a fragile political arena at home. Yet such a scenario would also carry the risk of transforming a localized conflict into a multi-theater regional crisis, drawing in actors across the Middle East.”

>THE GHOST OF VIETNAM: WHEN TERRAIN DEFEATS FIREPOWER

>What is unfolding in the limestone hills of southern Lebanon is not new. History has already written this script — in the jungles of Southeast Asia, five decades ago.
>The United States, commanding the most technologically advanced military force in the world at the time, could not destroy it.
>The Viet Cong were so well entrenched by 1965 that they controlled where and when battles would take place — the definition of strategic dominance achieved not through air power or naval supremacy, but through terrain knowledge and underground infrastructure.

>The parallels to southern Lebanon are structural, not incidental:

>Terrain as equalizer: Rocky hills restrict mechanized movement. Tunnels carved into limestone cannot be carpet bombed into submission.
>Decentralized command: Hezbollah’s four-deputies-per-commander structure mirrors the NLF’s cellular organization, designed to survive decapitation strikes.
>Strike and disappear: The ‘ghosts’ Ibrahim Majed describes — emerging from hidden positions, striking with precision, vanishing underground — are executing the Cu Chi playbook on Lebanese terrain.
>Psychological warfare: The IRGC mass text campaign is an information-era version of Radio Hanoi broadcasts aimed at breaking civilian morale and undermining the legitimacy of the opposing state.

>The United States lost the Vietnam War not because it ran out of bombs. It had more bombs than it could drop. It lost because terrain and time favored the side fighting at home, inside its own geography, with infrastructure that no amount of aerial firepower could fully eliminate.

>The question now is whether Israel — and its American backers — have studied that history. And whether the answer changes anything on the ground.

Leftcoms actually do a good job of making their acolytes read theory (much better than any ML org I’ve ever seen). The problem is this organizational discipline also leads to leftcoms more or less constantly LLM regurgitating ICP articles instead of doing any thinking for themselves. It’s the problem with organic centralism vs democratic centralism. They are basically the most cult-like of the tendencies but they have good organization (unfortunately they never actually do anything with this other than post increasingly incomprehensible memes in their discords or Minecraft server)
You also may be confusing Marxist anti-campists with liberal anti-campists who like to appropriate leftcom rhetoric. They aren’t actually anti-campists, in fact they are fine with expressing critical support for Palestine, they just don’t want to critically support China or Russia (which is completely within their right but they are disingenuous in their arguments)

Chaos can be part of a strategy. It's intentionally created because humans expect predictable outcomes, and in wars, it's important to try and introduce as much chaos into the enemy's system as possible. But Iran also understands how to create chaos.

But example:

>>2735780
>It's insane to me that nobody, not even the left, condemn Israel's assault on Lebanon.
I'm pretty sure they would but, again, there's so much stuff blowing up that people struggle to regain their bearings. They want to move faster than the other side can react. Israel is crafty at this kind of strategy, so everyone is watching the blaze over in the Persian Gulf but there's an Israeli ground invasion of South Lebanon that has been planned for months and they're not saying shit about it, and they're moving into Lebanon but it's not clear where they are, exactly, or in what number, meanwhile there are ominous messages coming from very well-connected Israeli journalists that they "should" grab everything south of the Litani and turn it into the next Golan Heights.

>>2735586

US issues up to $10 million reward for information on Mojtaba Khamenei, Larijani
The US Department of State’s Rewards for Justice programme has called for information on “Iranian terrorist leaders”, including Mojtaba Khamenei.
The State Department set the reward at up to $10m and said information could make people eligible for “relocation”.
“These individuals command and direct various elements of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which plans, organises and executes terrorism around the world,” the poster stated.

Officials whom the US is seeking information on include:
>Minister of Intelligence Esmail Khatib,
<Deputy Chief of Staff Ali Asghar Hejazi
>Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi
<Brigadier General Eskandar Momeni
>Secretary to the Supreme Council Ali Larijani
<Earlier today, Larijani joined the al-Quds Day protests in Tehran and posted pictures of his participation.

US sends 10,000 interceptor drones to counter Iranian drones
The United States has deployed 10,000 interceptor drones to the Middle East to counter Iranian drone attacks, US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll says.
The drones were shipped to the region within five days of the start of the Israeli-US war on Iran on February 28.
Officials say the drones offer a cheaper way to intercept incoming threats without relying on expensive missile defence systems.
Driscoll said each Merops interceptor currently costs $14,000–$15,000.
That would still make them potentially twice as expensive as Iran’s Shahed-136 drones, which Iranian analyst Esfandyar Batmanghelidj has estimated cost around $7,000.

Iran says it has shot down 111 drones since start of war
Iran’s military says it has shot down 111 drones since the start of the Israeli-US war, according to the Revolutionary Guards’ Sepah News portal.
The report said air defences recently downed an MQ-9 Reaper drone over Fars province and another aircraft near Tabriz, bringing the total number of drones destroyed to 111 “of various types”.
The MQ-9 Reaper is a high-end US surveillance and strike drone which typically costs about $30m to $32m, making it far more expensive than the one-way explosive drones used by Iran.
Iranian authorities did not provide a detailed breakdown of the drones they say they shot down.

Iranian missile shrapnel fall in three locations in central Israel
Israel’s Channel 12 reports that fragments of Iranian missiles have fallen in three locations in central Israel, causing damage. There have been no immediate reports of casualties.

UAE says it has resumed 44 percent of air traffic
The United Arab Emirates has gradually restored 44 percent of its pre-war aviation traffic, the country’s General Civil Aviation Authority has announced.
In the period between March 1 and March 12, the country’s airports handled 1.4 million passengers, the authority said.
The country’s carriers had slowly returned to about 44.6 percent of their pre-war capacity, it added.

US to deploy 2,200 Marines to the Middle East amid expanding war
The US plans to send a Marine expeditionary unit to the Middle East as the war with Iran continues to escalate, according to US officials.
ABC News reported that Washington intends to deploy a force of about 2,200 Marines on board three ships to the region.
A US defence official told Al Jazeera that the unit will deploy from the Marine Corps base in Okinawa, Japan, in support of ongoing military operations.
The official said the force includes about 2,500 personnel and will travel with naval vessels.
The official added that the unit is capable of conducting evacuation missions as well as amphibious landing operations if required.

<India & Global Left - Mar 12, 2026

>Interview with ‪@ChrisHedgesChannel‬ Hedges on the U.S.–Israeli attack on Iran and the widening Middle East war.

>In this conversation, Hedges analyses the war launched under the presidency of Donald Trump and what it means for the future of U.S. power in the region.

>He discusses:

>• Whether Trump’s war on Iran fits into his presidential campaign promises
>• The political risks Trump faces as the war becomes unpopular among Americans
>• Why Iran sees the conflict as an existential threat and may fight for the long term
>• Whether the war signals the decline of U.S. empire in the Middle East
>• The role of Israel and the Gulf monarchies in the conflict
>• The impact of the war on Palestine and the Axis of Resistance
>• Why anti-war protests in the United States have not yet reached the scale seen during the Gaza genocide
>• How dissent has been criminalised and what Americans can do to mobilise against the war

>Hedges argues that the trajectory of the war will ultimately be decided by Iran’s response, and that the conflict could reshape power relations across the Middle East, with implications for powers such as Russia and China.

Update: US Middle-East Bases DESTROYED. Israel Defenseless | Larry C Johnson (45:44)

<Neutrality Studies - 9 hours ago

>Operation Epic Failure is unraveling in front of our eyes. While the US managed to kill over 1000 Iranians in the first 10 days of it‘s mass-slaughter, it is failing massively at constraining the country‘s second strike capabilities. Every attack by the US/Israeli alliance is met with an immediate response. The US radar system in the region has been whipped out and no US navy vessel dares to come within striking range of the IRGC. And Tehran is not signaling any willingness to stop before its demands for reparations and a complete US withdrawal from the region are met. Trump‘s team is visibly panicking.

<India & Global Left - 56 minutes ago

>We interviewed Iranian political analyst Mohammad Marandi on the latest developments in the US-Israeli attack on Iran and the political meaning of Quds Day.

>Despite ongoing US-Israeli strikes, millions of Iranians took to the streets across the country for Quds Day in solidarity with Palestine. Western mainstream media largely ignored these demonstrations.

>In this conversation, Marandi explains:

>• The political significance of Quds Day demonstrations during wartime

>• Why Iranian leaders including President Masoud Pezeshkian appeared on the streets alongside ordinary citizens
>• The importance of the first public statement by Mojtaba Khamenei
>• Why the Iranian leadership’s response to the crisis has been described as calculated and strategic
>• His critique of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India’s alignment with Israel — comments that have gone viral across India

>Marandi also reflects on how the Iranian public views the war, the regional implications of the conflict, and the broader geopolitical struggle unfolding in West Asia.

Stop the war against Iran!

<World Socialist Web Site

>The World Socialist Web Site is hosting an emergency webinar on Sunday, March 8, to confront the US-Israeli war against Iran and discuss what must be done to stop it.

>A massive atrocity is underway. Great centers of civilization—Tehran, Isfahan, Qom—are being bombed and destroyed as the Trump administration escalates a war aimed at the obliteration of Iranian society.

>After the assault on Venezuela and the attempted strangulation of Cuba, the Trump regime—backed by all the imperialist powers—has expanded its campaign of violence across the Middle East and beyond. Gaza was the dress rehearsal. Now the target is a country of 90 million people, and the danger is not only regional devastation but a wider war threatening the entire world.

>While Trump and the Israeli regime are spearheading this war, the Democrats are complicit, the corporate media functions as a propaganda arm of the state, and the European powers are lining up behind Washington.

>The purpose of this meeting is to tell the truth about the war, expose its real aims, and advance the program and strategy necessary to organize opposition—above all, the independent mobilization of the international working class against imperialist war and dictatorship.

>>2736150
I think it only makes sense if they're running services in the same datacenter and don't want to pay for data egress fees which are really high for AWS. So if they already run things on an AWS region close to them and send a lot of data between services in that region, it saves them money by not having to communicate over the wider internet.

Iran War: Oil Flirts With $100 as More Commercial Ships Hit, US Refueling Plane Downed, with Iraqi Militia Taking Credit; Demands for Hormuz Opening Intensify; Private Debt Wobbles Add to Market Pressure

<Posted on March 13, 2026 by Yves Smith

>As the Iran war continues, it still appears that the best prospect for the Trump Administration to get past their severe denial and make genuine efforts to back out of the epic disaster they have created is a market rout. As we have demonstrated and others are staring to voice, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, if it persists for even as much as a week longer, will inflict durable damage on the global economy, reaching far beyond the impact the world can see now, of higher oil and LNG prices whose effects alone will ripple though the costs of goods generally. The downside of a closure of a mere additional month, even assuming no damage to energy production facilities in the Gulf, given the time it will take to get shuttered operations back to full steam, is a serious global recession. Two months from today would translate into a multi-fronted real economy crisis and high odds of a global depression, along with food shortages [ . . . ]

Should Iran Build a Nuke… Game Theory Says Yes

<12 March 2026 by Larry C. Johnson 241 Comments

>One of the most common questions surrounding what will happen to Iran if it continues to blockade the Strait of Hormuz and to pummel Israel to the point of exhaustion is whether Israel will go nuclear. To answer this question I decided to query a couple of AI-engines about that grotesque scenario using game theory. What is game theory? Game theory is the study of strategic decision‑making in situations where the outcome for each participant depends not just on their own choice, but also on the choices of others. It uses mathematical models to analyze how rational “players” select strategies and what outcomes (or “payoffs”) result from the interaction of those strategies.

>Before I applied game theory analysis to Iran’s current situation, I had concluded that the best way to prevent Israel from using a nuclear weapon against Iran is for Iran to produce and demonstrate that it has created a nuclear weapon. This would mean that the new Ayatollah, Mojtaba Khameni, would reverse his father’s fatwah and secretly authorize the production of at least two nuclear devices. I concluded that this would force Israel to rethink using a nuke once it realized that Iran could retaliate in kind [ . . . ]

War On Iran: – No Planning – No Hiding Officials – Suicide Mission In Hormuz

<MoA - March 13, 2026

>On January 28 I had warned that Iran Is No Easy Target:

>Iran however is also ready. It has increased its missile forces. It has promised to use it against U.S. positions in the Middle East and against Israel in retaliation to any attack. It has also promised to close the Strait of Hormuz. A large part of the global oil supply is flowing through it. A selective closure, which would for example allow tankers destined for China to pass, is also a possibility. But even a partial prolonged closure would suddenly increase oil and gas prices all over the world. Republican chances to win in the mid-term elections would decrease.

>The arising conflict is unlikely to be as short as the recent 12 day campaign. It could easily escalate into attritional warfare. Unlike Iran Israel has nukes and may be willing to use them. But given Iran’s size and large population it is likely to end up severely damaged, but as a winner.

>We are now in the midst of what I had foreseen. It was easy to predict this development and the Pentagon should be asked why it has failed to do so:

>The Pentagon and National Security Council significantly underestimated Iran’s willingness to close the Strait of Hormuz in response to US military strikes while planning the ongoing operation, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

>President Donald Trump’s national security team failed to fully account for the potential consequences of what some officials have described as a worst-case scenario now facing the administration, the sources said.

>While key officials from the Departments of Energy and Treasury were present for some of the official planning meetings about the operation before it started, sources said, the agency analysis and forecasts that would be integral elements of the decision-making process in past administrations were secondary considerations.

>Trump should fire his National Security Advisor, Marco Rubio, and his Secretary of Defense for providing stupid advice to him. He then should look at a mirror […]

Economist Jeffrey Sachs: U.S.-Israeli "War of Choice," Assault on U.N. Charter Could Lead to WWIII (16:13)

<Democracy Now! - Mar 13, 2026

>The global economy has been rocked by the war in the Middle East, with Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz threatening energy flows and sending the price of oil soaring to its highest level in years. The United Nations Security Council responded to the unprovoked U.S.-Israeli war by passing a resolution this week condemning Iran — specifically for its attacks on U.S. allies in the region — while ignoring the role of the Trump administration and the Netanyahu government in instigating the bloodshed. Economist Jeffrey Sachs joins Democracy Now! to discuss the fallout of the "war of choice" and why it also constitutes an assault on the United Nations.

>"This is so out of control, without any logic, any rationality, not any humane, moral, legal justification whatsoever," says Sachs. "It will lead to world war the way we're going, because we have two malignant narcissists, Netanyahu and Trump, that are leading us to disaster."

very beautiful guitar playing, reminds me of phil collins

Iran has quietly shifted its focus from the ballistic duel to a patient, calculated war on global energy markets and with it the world.

With the Strait of Hormuz effectively closed and the IRGC now threatening to escalate from a "toll booth" posture to full mining and drone boat swarm operations, the market has lost its ceiling.

The IEA's record 400 million barrel emergency release was deliberately neutralised by IRGC strikes on six vessels hours later—a signal that strategic stockpiles cannot substitute for physical flow.

The price of oil is no longer a single number. China's refining ecosystem is engineered for Iranian heavy sour crude; the IEA's release is predominantly light sweet. If heavy barrels are physically removed from the market, the Brent-Dubai spread explodes.

China's independent "teapot" refineries in Shandong—accounting for roughly a quarter of national capacity—face margin squeezes or outright shutdowns. The effective cost for Beijing has risen despite the $15‑20 discount, because the supply chain itself is being dismantled: vessels seized, ship‑to‑ship networks disrupted. This is not just a price shock; it's a systematic rupture.

The calculation becomes still more layered. Every dollar above $80 oil damages the U.S. economy at the pump, but it also strengthens the dollar. Importers need more U.S. currency to buy the same volume, tightening global financial conditions while benefiting the Treasury. Washington has a partial hedge the markets are only beginning to price. The paradox is real: the US consumer suffers, but the dollar's reserve status is momentarily reinforced by the very crisis that inflates gasoline prices.
Yet the Iranian Government faces its own existential gamble. Escalation to $200 oil means zero revenue, destroyed infrastructure at Kharg Island, and a domestic population that's already breaking down. The rial is at record lows; inflation exceeds forty per cent. The Government's survival instinct may be the ultimate circuit breaker—a threshold beyond which strategic ambition collides with internal fragility.

China's hedge, meanwhile, is Russia. The Power of Siberia pipeline and over‑land rail capacity become vital strategic assets. Moscow would undercut Iranian heavy grades to capture market share, deepening the Sino‑Russian axis at the exact moment Washington pressures Tehran. The United States wins the naval battle but risks losing the Eurasian alignment.

Saudi spare capacity, often invoked as a global salve, is geographically irrelevant in a full Hormuz closure. The East‑West pipeline to Yanbu can move only about five million barrels per day—far below normal Gulf exports. Saudi oil is just as trapped as Iran's.

The IEA itself is fractious. A second emergency release would face political gridlock. Germany would demand action; France, nuclear‑powered, would resist. A fractured response would be more damaging than none.
And so $200 oil is not a destination—it is a phase transition. It would trigger demand destruction, OECD recession, and a Saudi‑led military counter‑escalation to break the blockade. But that counter‑escalation requires the very air defense and naval assets the US has already stripped from the Pacific and burned through at an unsustainable rate. The price itself creates the political will for a response, yet the military capacity to execute that response is precisely what has been exhausted.

The war is no longer only about missiles and drones. It is about whether the global economy can absorb a shock that its own mechanisms were never designed to contain—and whether the system meant to guarantee stability can survive the campaign required to restore it.

If the strait reopens within weeks, Iran is left with zero revenue and a population poorer than before. If the conflict bleeds into months, the United States faces a reconstitution crisis in the Pacific that no emergency release of oil can solve. Both sides are now racing toward a threshold neither can afford to cross, propelled by a momentum neither can fully control.

Wrong, Iran is already cucking and is letting Indian ships through the strait, too. They are also in negotiations to let European ships through. Their blockade of the strait has effectively ended, and with it any chance of Iranian victory in this war.

Iranian officials keep invoking Epstein to taunt US
The war on Iran has coincided with the release of large troves of government files that documented the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s ties to rich and powerful people in the US.
Trump, who has denounced Epstein as a “creep”, had been photographed many times with the financier who abused dozens of young women and girls for years.
So Tehran has been trying to emphsise the links between Epstein and the ruling class in the US to portray its foes in Washington as morally inferior.
Today, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Iranians marching at al-Quds Day rally faced an assault by the “Epstein gang”, referring to US and Israeli strikes.
Hours earlier, Iran’s security chief Ali Larijani also brought up Epstein when responding to Pentagon chief Hegseth who had claimed that Iranian leaders were hiding like “rats”.
Larijani, President Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Araghchi and other top officials had attended the Tehran rally earlier and footage showed them mingling with people.
“Mr. Hegseth! Our leaders have been, and still are, among the people. But your leaders? On Epstein’s island!” Larijani wrote on X.
Last week, when Trump was pushing to be involved in the selection of Iran’s next supreme leader, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf had a message for the US president, also involving Epstein.
“The fate of dear Iran … will be determined solely by the proud Iranian nation, not by Epstein’s gang,” Ghalibaf said.

More than $2tn wiped off US stock market since US-Israeli war on Iran began
The S&P 500, an index that reflects the market performance of the largest companies listed on the US stock exchange, has fallen again as rising oil prices and uncertainty surrounding the war on Iran continued to unsettle investors.
The index matters to ordinary Americans because many retirement accounts, pension funds and investment funds are tied to it.
The broad US benchmark dropped 0.61 percent to close at 6,632.19, leaving the index about 5 percent below its recent peak and marking its lowest level of 2026 so far.
Market losses have mounted since February 27, the day before the US and Israel launched a war against Iran. On that day, the S&P 500 closed at 6,878.88 since then its dropped about 3.6 percent.
That decline represents an estimated $2.2 trillion wiped from the value of companies in the S&P 500 over the past two weeks as the war fuels volatility in global markets.

Qatar, Oman leaders stress ‘importance of de-escalation’
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani spoke to the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq and expressed his condolences over the death of country’s former deputy Prime Minister Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said.
In a statement published by the Emir’s office, Al Thani also expressed his condolences for the deaths of two people due to the crash of two drones in the state of Sohar and wished those injured a “speedy recovery”.
“The call also included a review of several regional developments, particularly the continued brutal Iranian aggression, with both sides emphasising the importance of de-escalation and prioritising dialogue and diplomatic means to enhance security and stability in the region,” the statement added.

Araghchi hits out at ‘pathetic’ European position as Russia sanctions eased
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says European countries thought they would get more support for Ukraine by backing the war against Iran, but instead, the conflict resulted in sanction relief for Russian oil imports.
With the exception of Spain and a few other nations, European countries and the European Union responded to the US-Israeli attack on Iran – which legal scholars say is unlawful – by slamming the Iranian government.
“Europe thought backing illegal war on Iran would win US support against Russia,” Araghchi wrote in a post on X. “Pathetic.”

On Friday evening, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the launch of the 46th wave of Operation "True Promise 4" under the slogan "O Master of Time".
The Guard said that the wave of missiles launched against targets in the occupied territories using super-heavy missiles of the “Khorramshahr”, “Khaibar Shekan”, “Emad”, and “Qadr” types is in commemoration of the martyred General Gholam Ali Rashid and the martyr Mohammad Bagheri.
In detailing the 46th wave, the Guards indicated that "Revolutionary Guard missiles targeted more than 10 hideouts of the Zionist entity's army commanders" and 3 locations where Americans were gathered in the region.
In this context, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, revealed on Wednesday evening that the Iranian forces possess good intelligence oversight in systems and information , and said, “We have good intelligence relations with foreign countries, and they also conduct monitoring via their satellites.”
The Revolutionary Guard added: "We targeted 7 points in Tel Aviv, 2 points in Rishon LeZion and another in Shoham in the occupied territories," stressing: "The gates of hell will not close until the last child-killing criminal is eliminated."
The Guard's statement said that "reports indicate direct casualties at the aforementioned locations," noting that "according to reports, rescue and military teams are currently present at the locations while an assessment of the extent of human losses is underway."
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also stressed that "what the Zionist settlements are experiencing at this moment is a state of terror," noting that "from one siren to another, there are fights to enter shelters."

<Intercepting 5 hostile armed drones

In the context of countering the dual aggression, the Guard announced the “success of the advanced and modern defense systems in intercepting and shooting down 5 armed and hostile drones belonging to the Zionist entity and the aggressor American army during the past 3 hours.”
In detail, an advanced Orbiter 4 drone was destroyed in the skies of Tabriz in the northwest of the country, and two Hermes drones were destroyed in the cities of Andimeshk and Tehran, as well as two MQ-9 drones in the cities of Firouzabad and Bandar Abbas in the south of the country.
This brings the total number to 114 aircraft of various types of spy, combat and attack drones destroyed and shot down since the beginning of this war.
Earlier on Friday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the execution of the 45th wave of Operation "True Promise 4" in cooperation between the Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, the drone units of the Iranian Army, the Guard, and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
In parallel, on Friday, the Iranian people took to the streets in million-strong marches despite the American-Israeli aggression that targeted them and resulted in injuries, amid chants condemning the aggression and supporting Mr. Mojtaba Khamenei, and with the participation of Iranian officials.
Iran continues to attack American bases and occupied territories in a defensive response to a joint aggression launched against it by the United States and Israel, which has been targeting residential neighborhoods, civilian infrastructure and natural resources since February 28.

With rocket barrages, the resistance bombards occupation soldiers in Khiam detention center and the newly established Balat site.
The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon announced on Friday a series of operations within the framework of "Jerusalem Day," during which it targeted a number of settlements and the Israeli military base in northern occupied Palestine, in addition to occupation sites in southern Lebanon.

>The Islamic Resistance targeted the settlement of Kiryat Shmona at 10:30 with a swarm of attack drones, and also bombed the settlement of Nahariya in northern occupied Palestine with a barrage of rockets.

<Between 12:15 and 12:20, resistance fighters targeted the Meron air operations monitoring and management base, the Even Menachem settlement, and the Kabri settlement in northern occupied Palestine with a missile salvo for each of them.
>At 15:20 on Friday, the Geva drone control base east of the occupied city of Safed was targeted by a missile salvo.
<Hezbollah targeted gatherings of Israeli occupation soldiers in the border settlement of Metula three times with three rocket salvos between 13:30 and 15:00.
>In southern Lebanon, at 13:00, Islamic Resistance fighters targeted a gathering of Israeli occupation soldiers in and around the Khiam detention center with two rocket salvos.
<The resistance also targeted the newly established Balat site in southern Lebanon with a rocket barrage.
>At dawn, the resistance confirmed in successive statements that it had targeted gatherings of occupation soldiers in the southern neighborhood of the city of Khiam, the newly established site in Tell al-Hamams, Khallat al-Asafir south of Khiam, the Marj site opposite the border town of Markaba, and the “Kfar Jaladi quarry”, with rocket salvos.

In this context, joint operations took place between the party and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Iran on Friday, as the Guard announced "the implementation of the 45th wave of Operation 'True Promise 4' in cooperation between the naval forces of the Revolutionary Guard and the drone units of the Iranian army, the Guard and Hezbollah in Lebanon."
Since March 3, the Israeli occupation has been waging a continuous aggression against various regions of Lebanon , leaving hundreds of martyrs and wounded, and causing damage and destruction in residential areas.

Canada joins record oil release to stabilise global markets
Canada says it will contribute 23.6 million barrels of oil to a coordinated emergency release organised by the International Energy Agency (IEA) after disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz triggered by the Israeli-US war on Iran.
The move forms part of a joint action by the IEA’s 32 member countries, marking the largest strategic oil release in the agency’s history.
Canadian officials say the country, the world’s fourth-largest oil producer, will supply the barrels through the domestic industry in coordination with federal and provincial authorities.
They added that natural gas exports are also expected to increase in the coming months to help stabilise supplies.

Israel says friendship with UAE ‘stands strong’
Israel’s Foreign Ministry has thanked the UAE for its “invaluable assistance” in aiding the return of Israeli citizens from the country amid the war.
“The friendship between Israel and the United Arab Emirates stands strong, proving its worth in times of peace and in times of war,” the ministry added.
The UAE – which has strong commercial and diplomatic ties with Israel – has been consistently targeted by Iran since the war broke out, which has put a strain on travel.

US media outlets report possible deployment of amphibious assault ship
Reports are dealing with quite a special military asset; there have been a couple of them that have come out on US media saying that a ship called the USS Tripoli, which is an amphibious assault ship, has been approved by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, that it can head towards the Middle East.
It’s got 2,000 troops, together with a group of about 2,500 marines. At the moment, these are just US media reports; we’ve obviously asked the Pentagon this ourselves, and we got this from a defence official: “We’ll not speculate on future troop movements or force posture to protect operational security”.
I’ve been speaking to a military expert here about what this means if this ship is heading towards the Middle East, and the important thing about the ship is that it is an amphibious assault ship, which means that it can deploy troops, aircraft, and landing craft from sea onto land during military operations.

Israeli shells hit UN peacekeepers’ base in southern Lebanon
Israeli shelling has struck the headquarters of a Nepalese battalion serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in the southern Lebanese town of Mays al-Jabal, according to local reports.
Lebanon’s National News Agency said shells landed inside the peacekeeping compound. No Nepalese soldiers were reported injured.
The Honorary Consulate General of Nepal in Beirut condemned the attack, warning that targeting UN positions represents a serious breach of international law.
“The Nepalese soldiers participating in UNIFIL have served for many years with a spirit of commitment and discipline to promote peace and stability in southern Lebanon,” the consulate said.

Qatar’s elevated security threat follows evacuations
For those who’ve joined us in the past few minutes, Qatar’s new alert of heightened security concerns followed less than an hour after the country’s ministry of interior announced that “authorities are evacuating a number of specified areas as a temporary precautionary measure, in the interest of public safety until the threat has subsided”.
Parts of Education City, home to major universities, the Qatar National Library, and other popular public facilities, were among those temporarily evacuated, per eyewitneses.

Qatar issues heightened security alert
Qatari authorities have just sent a heightened security alert on mobile phones to everyone in the Gulf country, signalling incoming missiles or drones, and attempts to intercept them.
“Everyone must remain in their homes and safe spaces, and stay away from windows, glass facades and exposed areas until the threat has passed, in order to preserve public safety,” the alert reads.
Stay tuned for more.
