That entire experience you just mentioned is one of the big reasons why the DSA is not only doomed to fail, but is also suspicious at best. Local systems and hostile elements will all converge on you in order to snuff you out. If that doesnโ€™t work, national systems and elements will do that. Anyone who makes through all of that? Generally aiming to be the next AOC because thatโ€™s usually what gets past the filters. Anything less, and they will get chased out regardless of their position.

As for the importance of the DSA? Not too important. The local chapters might be able to steer themselves into a more prominent, more important militant position later on, but nationally DSA is ultimately screwed. Itโ€™s already corrupted by the bourgeoisie. Mamdani is already in their pockets for goodness sake. And ultimately, despite what some may claim, the DSA is not at all needed for a dirty break. That will happen regardless of their state. People will simply go through more unofficial channels instead.

It took me a long time to join the DSA but if HOUDINI is to grow into something that can supersede me and be truly revolutionary, there is no other choice. I mean there's not even any other political orgs here and our 20 person chapter (on a good day) served 89 meals Wednesday. We're going to have city council members elected.
