One of his examples of Trump shirking the preceived responsibility of the presidency was a single comment about how Trump wastes a lot of time "traveling with Natalie". Referring to Natalie Harp, some blonde woman in her 30's that's one of Trump's closest aids and was previously an OANN pundit who would sign off with Bible quotes or Trump quotes. She's apparently held in very high regard by Trump, and was one of the few people who was with him on that catering truck that time he left Air Force One to die from a fake Iranian terror attack
The right wing media ecosystem, up to and including the White House, somehow interpreted this as a vicious attack on Trump's fidelity and tantamount to calling Natalie Harp a whore, and for the past 36 hours there's been endless pearl clutching and performative outrage from the government and your usual talking heads. One critique that Marxists have made of antisemitism is that it can paradoxically reaffirm the system of global capitalism by identifying the many problems as being caused by this minority group (as wealthy as it is). Even "capitalists" too if you want to get more leftcom with it; rather it's more of a system in which capitalists are also functionaries. In any event, the problem doesn't go away either because of the manifest badness of the situation and the relative weakness of the left at offering an alternative since socialism widely came to be viewed as discredited.
The scapegoat might shift to other people as well. This is running pretty hot at the moment, but it could recede in the future (it comes and goes), and people will find some other group to project all the ills of the society on. Also anti-imperialism is a hard sell because a lot of Americans don't believe that they're the moral equivalent of the Empire from Star Wars. A lot of Americans are more likely to view aggressive wars by the U.S. as idiotic mistakes than how the anti-imperialist left often likes to present them. So again, that allows the far right to advance the argument that "Americans" are basically good but "the Jews" are responsible. And on the left you might hear "Israel" as opposed to America.
And there is a danger of the left doing the "America deserved 9/11" stuff. But there might also be a danger of over-doing the anti-Zionism (which holds regardless of whether it's correct or incorrect) becase that risks getting ahead of the left's emphasis on advancing the interests of the working class and the poor. If those people feel like the left has abandoned them, they will vote for right-wing nationalists who will then produce a foreign policy that the left is likely to view as even more imperialist than what the U.S. is doing right now. So that can be a bad spiral. Idk, I've said enough, what does everyone else think?

Venezuela abandons Nicolรกs Maduro to fate in US jail - financial times
Venezuelaโs government made no mention of freeing jailed ex-president Nicolรกs Maduro during nearly two weeks of talks with the opposition this month, in the clearest sign yet that the regime has abandoned him to the US justice system.
Interim president Delcy Rodrรญguez in January called the US capture and exfiltration of Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores a case of โvile aggressionโ. Her brother, leader of Venezuelaโs parliament, said they โwill not restโ until he is released from a Brooklyn jail cell, where he faces drug-trafficking charges.
But Rodrรญguezโs US-backed government surprised the opposition by not even raising those demands during the five negotiating sessions, which concluded last week, several people present told the FT.
โMaduro and Flores simply do not exist at the negotiating table,โ said one opposition figure. โThey have erased them from history.โ
The US government has backed Rodrรญguez, Maduroโs vice-president, since its commandos snatched the autocratic leader in a brazen night-time raid on January 3. In return, she has opened up the countryโs vast natural resources to overseas investors, giving US companies access to its oil reserves.
The first round of negotiations with the opposition was intended to agree on steps for a new presidential election but yielded few concrete results.
The two sides focused on how to fund the recovery from Juneโs devastating earthquakes, demanding the repatriation of some $4bn of gold bullion stored in Bank of England vaults. They also agreed to start working to reform the justice system.
After the talks concluded, the government said it had released 131 political prisoners, though rights group Foro Penal said they could only verify that at least 78 had been freed.

โNo,โ she responds, glaring unhappily as she quickly moves past him. She keeps walking, but the boy filming follows her.
โCome back! Pleasepleaseplease!โ he wheedles as the girl continues to walk away. โYour LinkedIn, at least? Your LinkedIn, please? Your Reddit? Come on, your Reddit? I know you have a Reddit!โ
The girl, clearly uncomfortable with the unwanted attention, doesnโt turn around.
The video has the distinctive style of the invasive โrizzcamโ and other โPOVโ videos in which self-styled โpickup artistsโ and other online creators use smart glasses to record themselves harassing women at malls and boardwalks or pestering employees at their place of work for content. But the people in this video arenโt adults. Everyone in the clip โ the girl, the boy filming, and hallway passersby โ is a teenage student.
A Futurism review found large numbers of videos recorded at middle and high schools using smart glasses โ almost always Metaโs AI Glasses, designed in partnership with the eyewear titan Ray-Ban โ and shared to social media platforms TikTok and Instagram. Recordings take place in school hallways, cafeterias, and classrooms, and feature interactions with other students as well as with staff and faculty.
Much of the behavior on display is plainly harassment and bullying, often filmed without the subjectsโ knowledge or consent and uploaded online to humiliate them further. Strikingly, every single one of the many smart glasses videos we found were captured by teen boys โ and their bad behavior was overwhelmingly directed at girls.
In some clips, neither the boysโ classmates nor teachers appear to realize theyโre being recorded. In others, they do โ and express frustration and distress, making it clear that they donโt want to be in the video. (Weโre not linking directly to any of this content due to concern for the privacy of the many minors who appear in the footage.)
In one video, a student even filmed himself dropping his smartphone into one of the pouches that schools use to confiscate phones during class โ suggesting that smart glasses are being used by students in spaces where teachers are seeking to limit electronic devices.
Other students kept recording as teachers caught them filming in the classroom, in interactions theyโve also posted online.
โThese are way more discreet than I thought they would be,โ one teacher who caught a teenage boy filming remarked as he turned over the AI-infused glasses in his hand.
Many of the posts shared by students are vlog-style โCome With Meโ or โDay in My Lifeโ videos. Kids film themselves arriving at school, walking around with their friends, and sitting in the cafeteria or in class.
In other videos, students record themselves interacting with staff like teachers, aides, and security personnel. Though some of these adults realize theyโre being filmed, most donโt appear to have a clue. Many of these encounters are relatively benign: one student recorded himself telling a teacher a ChatGPT-generated joke, for example, and another shows banter with a security guard.
But kids are also using Meta glasses to record and post videos of themselves or other students arguing with their teachers. โTeacher gets mad!!!โ reads the caption of one video in which a teen filmed another student in an argument with a teacher about grades. In another clip, a student records himself quarreling with a teacher asking him to take out his notes.
Itโs clear that some teenage boys are taking cues from viral pickup artists and online pranksters who have abused Meta glasses to record themselves harassing unsuspecting women in public or badgering employees at their place of work. These young smart glasses users are copying those tactics and deploying them against other teens at their schools, and the overwhelming majority of this harassment has been directed at teen girls. (Many middle and high schools havenโt even started class yet in the United States, and others are in their first days or weeks, so expect far more chaos as the school year starts in full.)
One trick we found replicated across many accounts was for a boy wearing smart glasses to record himself asking a fellow student โ often younger โ for โhelp.โ The filmer then approaches a girl who happens to be walking or sitting nearby and tells her that his โfriendโ โ the unsuspecting student he asked for help โ is interested in her and wants her number. The girls usually respond with confusion, and sometimes are noticeably annoyed; the duped peer, meanwhile, looks embarrassed.
One prolific teenage boy who has more than 64,000 combined TikTok and Instagram followers has made dozens of videos that range from havoc-causing pranks โ grabbing phones and running away, goofing around on a basketball court โ to clear bullying and harassment of peers, particularly of teen girls.
In several videos, the poster follows young women around as they plead with him to go away. He sometimes films himself โragebaitingโ young women by making fun of their appearance, laughing as the teen girls grow more and more upset. All of these recordings become fodder for social media, opening up the people in his recordings, including his fellow students, to online laughter and further bullying.
When victims notice theyโre being recorded by the poster, they often ask him to stop. He never does.
โIโm about to break those glasses for real,โ one girl tells the troublemaker in one of the videos. โHeโs recording you,โ an out-of-frame voice can be heard warning the girl. The girl, visibly frustrated, shouts back: โI know!โ
In a different video, the same boy films another upset girl approaching him with a metal stool in her hands. An adult intervenes before anyone is hurt.
Over on another channel, a teacher is filmed butting in as a boy records himself asking a passing girl for her number. The teacher is completely unaware that the boy is recording the encounter for content โ and instead interrupts the boyโs โapproach,โ as pickup artists call it, to shake his hand and congratulate him on his โconfidence.โ
As we scrolled through more and more videos, it was hard not to wonder: is this content even legal?
After all, schools arenโt exactly public spaces. (Public schools may be considered public property, but arenโt public areas in the sense that anyone can waltz in.) Several states also have two-party consent laws mandating that all parties involved in an interaction have to consent to it being recorded. Add in the fact that the people involved in these recordings tend to be minors, and there are a lot of fraught legal lines that kids are running up against when using inconspicuous wearables to film their peers.
Andy Liddell, a principal at the Austin, Texas-based EdTech Law Center, told Futurism that using smart glasses to film at school is โa terrible idea.โ
โTraditionally the classroom has been a private place that not everybody in the world has access to, and so you do have an expectation of privacy in the classroom thatโs greater than you have on the street,โ said Liddell. โIn states with one-party consent recording laws, this could potentially be in violation of those laws, and those can carry very steep penalties, including felony charges. So thatโs a problem.โ
โReally, school is the last place that these glasses belong,โ Liddell added.
In response to detailed questions about this story, Meta pulled down most of the videos we flagged and provided a brief statement.
โSchools know their students best, and we respect their authority to set the rules for their learning environments, while also considering the needs of students with disabilities who may benefit from technology to participate,โ the statement read. โEvery pair of our glasses has a built-in capture LED light to let people know when a photo or video is taken, something smartphones and other cameras donโt have. It canโt be turned off, and if someone covers or damages the LED, the camera is disabled.โ
TikTok also responded to say that it had pulled down the videos we flagged.
As the school year kicks off, many districts around the country have moved to explicitly ban smart glasses from classrooms. Reasons for banning go beyond non-consensual recordings: kids may try to use Meta glassesโ AI features to cheat, or do distracting things like listen to music in class. But even if smart glasses arenโt yet specifically discussed in a schoolโs policies, many already restrict the gadgets by limiting internet-connected or camera-equipped devices.
The overarching problem is that the devices can be hard to spot, especially if theyโve been modified to disable their recording light. (Kids might also opt for lower-tech light blockers like cheap stickers.) Though the majority of the boys in the videos we reviewed were using Metaโs market-leading smart glasses, which retail for a few hundred dollars and in many cases are likely to be gifts from parents, there are many lower-cost โdupesโ available on TikTok and Amazon that might be more accessible to young people.
Schools may have gotten used to cracking down on smartphones. But are they prepared to deal with a new wave of wearable tech that embed features that can be used for surveillance, bullying and harassment directly onto kidsโ faces?
