have recently been absolutely swamped by articles such as this on many of my feeds

https://archive.ph/NUCFc#selection-647.0-647.67

and really want to know how others here look at data like this and dont completely black pill over it. i feel like there is very little hope that things are getting this bad and we still seem to be determined to make them even worse.

Relativizing, dissociating and hopemaxxing.
Life always was shitty for most people in history and they still pushed on so loosing your privileges is not that bad. You can emotionally detach yourself from big abstract concepts like world war and climate catastrophe. And lastly we will solve everything with the revolution.

>>2896349
>climate doomerism
What is the best and worst case scenario?

>>2896349
>>2896363
Unfortunately there is little time. If we cross a tipping point, it can't be stopped, revolution or not. And communism can't do miracles either, especially if resources are dwindling and chaors reigns

>>2896383

The article ive linked supposes a warming of 5 degrees or higher. Thats truly apocalyptic

>>2896399

I think im begining to belive we have crossed that tipping point

>>2896408
Well there are several tipping points. The problem is the feedback loop. The loop can't be stopped and it will start triggering other tipping points which also have a feedback mechanism.

That shit is apocalyptic

>>2896411

And is it not likely this is already happening?

basically we surpassed even the most pessimistic doomer estimates. honestly kind of impressive how dedicated we are to ending our species

>>2896420

In theory not yet, but there is a possibility yes. If scientists missed something. It's hard to know with exactitude

What is China’s plan for this?

>>2896447
Probably the only nation thats had some sucess undoing climate disaster

>>2896453
But what is their plan though?

>>2896447
>>2896457
They don't really have plans past reducing carbon emissions which is more a happy accident of trying to reduce pollution and energy dependence through the deployment of renewables and electrification than a real policy. The first wet bulb uninhabitable zones will likely be in south east Asia in a decade or three, we will see if they leverage their industrial might to welcome dozens of millions of refugees

>>2896430
King Allant species

>>2896485
All of this is possible with current technology but there’s zero political will to do so and won’t be until it’s already too late which it has been since the 1970s, the main conflict of the 21st century will be climate refugees clawing at the gates of the still livable global north

>>2896453
Not really, just less awful then the rest

>>2896485
CO2 production or CO2 in the atmosphere ?

>>2896515
Living underground means you drown when there’s literally any rain, and climate change means mega hurricanes with megaflooding

>>2896349
I would just look for something to hold onto. Even after the Green Sahara turned into a desert, lots of people stayed. There are ecologists in deserts, too. People commit their generosity to futile causes, but their generosity still outlives their politics. Sometimes people can't help but fall in love with someone who they know will die young, and it's not because they don't care.

Using aerosols to block sunrays is economically viable and seems to be the only option going forward to mitigate global warming

People in the first world won't be affected by climate change

>>2896559
Who would be capable of doing that tho, can the US just start throwing aerosols in the air with zero international reaction ?

>>2896491
This is a plan for mitigation, not adaptation

Maybe IRL isn't a Disney movie where everything always has a happy ending.

Maybe "doomerism" is a perfectly rational response to the state of the world.

>>2896559
Due to the fact that it reflects solar rays the effects would be much stronger in the tropics then the poles, dur to this this technique can't really be used to lower temps more then ~0.5c. But i love retards like you just repeating silicon valley and oil talking points like a good little slave.

>>2896607
I lost hope some time ago, between climate change and the use of non reneawable resources, on the long run humanity is going be extinct

>>2896349
Keep fighting as if you can win. So what if it all ends? Why does this mean you should stop?
An hey, giving up benefits the elite. If you don't fight back you foreclose thepossiblity of not fucking dying.

>>2896607
Doomer without being a defeatist. It's best right to focus on hurting the rich who made this happen as much as possible.
Giving up and rolling over is what they want.

>>2896349
For one, doing what >>2896363 does.

That and realizing that Earth has already had like 5 Mass extinctions in the past. If we are going to die, at lease we can try to punish the rich by preventing them from leaving. Hopefully by creating a kessler syndrome in earth orbit so they can never leave the planet.

accept it and look into how to become a regional warlord. you feel doom because you are still "starting to believe". when it becomes a certain future (which it is) for you, the doom evaporates. rather proceed from the premise that everything will definitely descend into chaos. instead of thinking about how to reverse any of these things technologically (we cant), accept billions of people are going to die and think about how to set down the seeds for the conquest of the planet in the aftermath. it really is that simple. or actually not for you guys which is why your grand children (if they will even exist) will be serving under mine (quite magnanimously i might add)

btw the us is definitely heading into civil war soon and the only ones remotely preparing for it are patriot front and the acp. you guys dont want to be beaten by them do you? chop chop. or actually dont do that keep dooming. it will make it easier to conquer all of you than give you ideas about organizing

>>2896515
>something about becoming a different species notwithstanding
may be inevitable

Couldn't we just get technology to bring back extinct animals and plants

>>2896349
with climate it's basically so over and i don't usually even talk about it because I'll get sent to >>>/dead/ for dooming

No, we don’t have the capabilities to grow them in artificial wombs/vats.

buddy where we're going the supply chains for 19th and 20th century technologies are going to be seen as a golden age. They'll call this the "oil age collapse" in the future if there is one

>>2896951
our age of bronze is collapsing…

i've always been kind of excited about huge disasters and catastrophes that disrupt and destroy society, the routine of what people see as "normal life" is what depresses me more than anything else. i was happy when 9/11 happened because i got to go home from school early that day, i was excited whenever huge hurricanes would come and wreck everything and the power would be out and the streets would be flooded and i would laugh at the people panicking and hoarding food and gasoline trying to feel like they could control the situation, i was excited about the pandemic and it was fun to watch the entire economy shut down and people losing their minds and thinking it was a hoax or a conspiracy and needlessly spreading disease and getting themselves and others sick, even the president getting sick, hundreds of thousands of people dying needlessly, all of that stuff is a lot more fun than just normal everyday life being stuck at work every day and being bored to tears with this soul-sucking ant-like existence that we call life. the only depressing thing about climate change is that it's too slow and i'll probably die of old age or something and not get to be around for the really terrible consequences.

So was marx wrong about historical progressiveness. Was capitalism just a dead end all along?

>>2896968

>i've always been kind of excited about huge disasters and catastrophes that disrupt and destroy society, the routine of what people see as "normal life"

uygha the capitalist class is going to work your ass in 100 degree heat so they can pocket a few extra cents there will be no dispution to your regular life besides it getting constantly mesuerabely worse.

>>2896992
>the capitalist class is going to work your ass in 100 degree heat

i've already been doing that since i was 16 and i'm from texas, it's nothing to me. i've had a lot of labor-intensive jobs, mowing lawns, washing and vacuuming cars, unloading trucks, stocking warehouses, scrubbing shit off the floors in non-air-conditioned dog kennels, doing oil changes and brake jobs, etc. i sweat outdoors in 100 degree heat in my free time just for my own enjoyment, doing yardwork and growing a garden in my backyard and riding a single-speed mountain bike and wadefishing in the ocean for hours dragging around a beer cooler wedged in an inner tube tied to my waist. grueling physical labor is in my redneck blood and i genuinely enjoy it, it's how i was brought up, you work yourself to exhaustion and then after work you hang out with your buddies and get drunk or high, it's a great way to live. it's not the actual work part of work that sucks, it's all the other bullshit you have to deal with.

>>2896349
I comfort myself with the understanding that the climate is an inherently chaotic dynamical system that might behave in ways that are mathematically intractable to predict. Maybe somehow it balances it out and self-corrects. Of course, nobody and nothing is looking out for us; we could just as well deprive of oxygen and suffocate. The idea that the same indifference which did in the dinosaurs and all the other extinction events might make an exception for us is delusional thinking.
That said, if even a fragment of the capital wasted on frivolous things today was invested in environmental science, I do have confidence in the powers of the human intellect to intervene in these trends. Capitalism is of course completely unequipped to handle it.

accept the doom, let it mold you, cultivate you!

the world is ending but slowly, you need to accept this, How you react is up to you. You can spend your last days being a whiney depressed punk bitch. Or you can spend your final days in a haze of nihilistic hedonism, eat food, party, have sex. Its time to start stirner maxxing

they both are building local businesses for financial and productive sovereignty moreover the latter is also engaging in activities that build trust with local communities so that can secure a stronghold in various local areas when the time comes. meanwhile what are you doing? thats right nothing. what is the dsa doing? pretending the us isnt headed for collapse and engaging in electoral poltics. do you see how, in comparison to everyone else, they are then therefore the most prepared? the average leftoid is not even in the right conversation, and so they are all destined to be enslaved by tribal warlords when the time comes. hope this helps

>>2897072
however, when the venezuelan and colombia earthquakes happened, i did feel a little bit of schadenfreude, especially when i saw, or at least what seemed to be, people from the middle class running around scared to shit, it felt… sorta like karma, you know. i think social media truly fucked us and made us devoid of most empathy.

>>2897072
>look, i know the world is shitty and a capitalism fucks us all in the ass but you sound like a sociopath

i don't know, i think a lot of people probably feel the way i do but just don't want to admit to it. i don't think it's sociopathy, i think it's just a perverse reaction to a very dehumanizing and derealizing existence, being so starved for something real and life-affirming that an unstoppable force of destruction feels like a breath of fresh air. i know that i shouldn't feel this way and how insane it is to be excited about the world falling apart, but it is what is and it's probably society's fault and not mine. and at any rate does it even matter how i feel about these kinds of things? if you saw one person drowning at the beach it would matter how you felt about it, you might go in to save them. but if you saw a 200 foot tsunami about to wash an entire city into the ocean and kill hundreds of thousands of people, it doesn't really matter how anyone feels about that.

what about what they are actually doing on the ground? it doesnt matter how stupid they are ideologically. patriot front rallied hundreds of people in a single city! how many leftist orgs can do that? how many leftist orgs even have hundreds of members?
>These acts are very irregular and the main intention is not to develop a strong presence in the community but rather to garner likes and retweets on social media
the acp chapters are not even ran in a centralized manner and much of the funding comes out of the members pockets. attributing a cynical reason to it rather than what they say they are doing explicitly therefore makes 0 sense. and their explicit reason is building strongholds in local areas
<These acts are very irregular and the main intention is not to develop a strong presence in the community but rather to garner likes and retweets on social media
this displays a lack of understanding of the fact that part of the information war also involves developing support from the locals of an area in a way that is divergent from bourgeois politics

note again that the reason why they have pursued this strategy is all under the premise that the us is headed for a civil war. the critique that they dont bother engaging with the fight to raise minimum wage or whatever makes no sense when the entire system is fundamentally broken and will go kaput! that is ultimately the problem here. you are still proceeding from the perspective of "class politics as usual" when climate change and the collapse of the american empire WILL destabilize everything. why go after people that are still living within the illusory reality that there is hope and not the people that are ready to burn everything down? also who owns the guns? the baristas or the truck drivers? yeah i thought so

>>2896968

damn HUNDREDS? thats almost enough to form a dis.cord server

When climate change comes and we see live videos of U.S soldier killing and raping refuges from latin america countries destroyed by climate change, we gonna see a million Asmongolds in social media making react videos saying "yea who cares, kill then. rightoids literally see third world migration spurred on by climate change and imperialism "the sea peoples invading" and they even enable their coast guards to slaughter rafts full of migrants in the exact same way.

>>2897244
>The military is failing because its
Stupid, incompetent, wasteful, and careless, except now even more so under the Trump administration. Iran is winning because of it’s own strengths as well (it has much going for it), but no one can deny that the US military isn’t especially off it’s rocker these days. Kegseethe simply is not capable of holding things together, and I cannot be convinced otherwise.

>>2897244
the us military is finished. it cant kill that many people. if climate refugees get killed it will be us citizens doing the killing with their own guns and they probably could start doing this because the us is too close to the equator to be considered safe from social destabilization, and mass influx of refugees have always historically lead to the rise of the right wing reaction under bourgeois governments

>>2897285

That's normal, maas migration ends up with a massive unemployed, homeless population that can only end up building a ghetto and make money through crime, it's a self fulfilling prophecy of the "dangerous foreigners", (also it did happen in some places in the world with no border controls, even tho I will be called a reactionary for pointing out that material conditions create crime)

Depends on where you live (if you don't have too much empathy for the rest of the world). The area of the USA is absolutely massive relative to the population. The book "How to Prepare for Climate Change" by David Pogue was published in 2021, but I believe the basic advice on where to move still holds: to the north and away from the coasts.

Pogue's recs were: Madison, Wisconsin; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Burlington, Vermont; Bangor, Maine; Denver, Colorado; Boulder, Colorado; Chicago, Illinois; Cleveland, Ohio; Boise, Idaho; Portland, Oregon; Spokane, Washington; Duluth, Minnesota; Buffalo, New York.

Because Patriot Front is literally funded by the bourgeoisie and controlled by the feds you retard.

>>2898686
And Fascists have always been the rabid attack dogs of the bourgeoisie. Most people won't actually like the fascists because they would see them hurting their own families. Fascists eat their own and actually harm their own people just as much as any "foreigner".

>>2898690
And the reason "leftist" have failed is because of a mixture of fed infltration, stupidity and the incompetence of the western left. Not to mention we are literally starting over since the collapse of the USSR in 1991. Communism won't happen overnight.

china are responsible for like a third of global co2 emissions they're like the worst offender in the world by far when it comes to industrial pollution, conservation, basically any kind of environmental issue

>>2898768
>China is actually doing shit
China is mitigating further damage to some extent, not actually adapting to a new climate

Geoengineering will temporarily stop global warming and carbon removal over decades will reverse it. This is all just a techno-economic engineering task for capitalism.

Stop using short-term world events as anchors for your praxis. What is to be done is the same as it ever was for the past 200 years. Organize the working class and create a programme that shows how you will abolish the wage system, money, commodity production to establish an international communist economy.

>>2898768
>compared to anyone
who?
>or even China
is china a state in america?
>China is actually doing shit
china has the collective sovereignty to actually do something substantially large scale about climate collapse. at the same time all the feedback loops are already triggering. the true expression of china's collective will shall be seen in the collapse of the global economy
>anyone who beats them up

also again the chapters are decentalized. how on earth could they maintain any cynical posture with such a structure? they couldnt even if they wanted to. that is the thing, you can say that they are stupid ideologically but if we look at how their party is actually structured concretely we see that is reaaally besides the point

>>2898815
Techno optimism is not a sensible solution for climate change. This has been stated by scientists several times. Such technology is still out of reach

>>2898831

Its not the silver bullet but it certainly will help

>>2898876
It’s not helpful period. The last thing the planet needs is an even more rapid change in climate, and another excuse to try and turn it into a co2 dumping ground for capitalists.

>>2898878

That i completely agree with. Capitalism is innately extractive so its not something our current system could stop

>>2898815
>Geoengineering will temporarily stop global warming and carbon removal over decades will reverse it. This is all just a techno-economic engineering task for capitalism.

carbon dioxide is the extremely stable lowest energy state final product of carbon combustion, to turn the co2 back into carbon you have to put in at least as much energy as you released from burning the carbon. we started accumulating co2 debt around 1950 when the rate of co2 emissions exceeded the rate of natural absorption and since that time we have released about 22 zettajoules of energy from burning carbon. to get back to where we were before the tipping point we have to pay back all of that energy, we have to expend at least 22 zettajoules of energy not derived from fossil fuels to break all those co2 molecules apart and satisfy the debt. there is no way around this, there is no technological trickery that can outwit the laws of thermodynamics.

the real issue underlying all of this is the double standard that humanity has when it comes to nature. in one moment we have a philosophy of absolute mastery over nature when we are extracting and drilling and farming and burning fossil fuels and enriching ourselves, but the moment the bill becomes due and we are faced with the consequences of our so-called dominion over nature we abruptly switch philosophies and become passive naturalists and we say "oh, the earth is resilient, nature will heal itself, it's much stronger than we are, we're just tiny little humans what harm could we do?" we want to have our cake and eat it too, we want the agency to make huge irrevocable changes to the world but we also want a cosmic "undo" button to revert our changes when they don't go well for us, and reality doesn't work that way. reality is a permanent ledger, everything that happens is indelible.
