Poll: What is the meaning of life?
  • It's to feel different things and grow.
  • It's to win at creating good feels.

Do not answer if you're not ready.

white women

>>823658
>white women
Just women. Happen to be white.

There's no point. It's pointless. Maybe try not to suffer much. I guess I'll go with the creating good feels option. Also fat booty white women are pretty hot.

>>823658
>white women
Here's some nuance

>>823656
The meaning of life is whatever narrative you craft for that purpose. Or whatever narrative someone else crafted and sucessfully sold to you.

Whatever keeps you from killing yourself

>>823662
>I guess I'll go with the creating good feels option. Also fat booty white women are pretty hot.
Same bro. And women are good.

>>823663
Good point.

The objective purpose of life is to replicate genes by sexual reproduction. Activity which approximates this signals pleasure, as a means of rewarding our biological programming (e.g. orgasm). For secondary pleasures, like eating and drinking, this comes from the nutrition we import into our bodies, aiding in health. This is also why there are limits to pleasures, which are limits to health - for example, pain as a response to damaged nerve endings signals that something js to be avoided for the vessel of our genes (e.g. the body). To be hurt physically is to experience the limits of our health, so it is avoided. Tertiary pleasures such as socialisation entail the competition for and against genetic replication. Our friends are protected from ourselves in pursuing competition for mates and resources. Tribes conserve the gene pool of a selecrted group, for example, and this creates social bonds. We do not harm friends, but do compete against strangers.

So then, pleasure is a response of health in the body and its purpose; to sustain the vessel of our genes, and to sexually reproduce. The opposite of meaningfulness is then the inducement of pain, which conflict with this goal. So then, "what is to be done?" Eat and rest well, take walks, make friends, and create families. This is life's purpose. Everything else is compensation for this original loss of meaning.

Dry.

I'd take Sweeney anytime.

I always hated this line of reasoning. Maybe I just don't understand what "purpose" is, but to me this feels completely backwards. Life exists because it reproduces itself. But does that mean that it is its purpose to reproduce itself? When a species goes extinct, does it mean that it failed to live up to its purpose? Rocks are inanimate and yet continue to exist; is "their" purpose to just be until erosion washes them away?

Life exists and will continue to exist and species come and go but sentient beings will keep having "the conversation". Useful things have "purpose" so having purpose is tied to identity and roles, and those are tied to their contexts I guess. I don't like that line of reasoning either.

>What is the meaning of life?
There is no meaning.

>>823705
>There is no meaning.
Are you sure about that?

>>823681
this is just crude materialism.

>>823681
>The objective purpose of life is to replicate genes by sexual reproduction.
You can't derive purpose from observing life.

>>823681
That's how life keeps going, not why it is.

Are we just fleshy blips in some meaningless stew of cosmic oblivion? Or is it vice-reversa?

spread positivity and freedom, end the tyranny of the archons

>>823681
>The opposite of meaningfulness is then the inducement of pain, which conflict with this goal. So then, "what is to be done?" Eat and rest well, take walks, make friends, and create families.
But people often find great meaning in pain and struggle, and despair or boredom in empty, easy lives. The person who climbs a mountain or fights in a war might suffer greatly but also find great satisfaction and contentment in it.

>>823684
It seems to me purpose is tied to what something was designed to do. We say a hammer's purpose is to hit nails, a knife's purpose is to cut. We say a good knife is one that cuts effectively, is comfortable to hold while cutting, that doesn't wear down, etc. So can life have a purpose without a creator god? The designer is abstract nature, evolution, but is that just a metaphor? Then you get into weird arguments over teleology where people say the purpose of a heart isn't to pump blood but to me it seems it obviously is because if it didn't the organism would die and hearts wouldn't exist. That's how you get vestigial organs, or eyeless cave animals, when the purpose is no longer needed and isn't repurposed for something else.

So if you think purpose can be given by evolution, does that mean rocks have no purpose? What about stellar evolution? At that point the purpose would be something like dissipating entropy or whatever the fancy physics phrase would be, which probably isn't too satisfying, but oh well. We tend to think life is more meaningful than non-life, but we're biased.

>>823656
Nothing, it's all pain and sorrow all the way through. The only thing we can do is try to make it less awful for future generations or better yet, stop making more generations.

being meaningless stew of cosmic oblivion trapped in fleshy blips feels more aligned with what I am

>>823681
The meaning of life is actually perpetuation of one's species, not simply passing down your genes (it's part of it but not the whole).

>>823729
what doth life (life, life)

>>823717
Pretty sure. You can always invent some fake meaning of course if it makes your days easier.

>>823684
>When a species goes extinct, does it mean that it failed to live up to its purpose?
Yes.
>Rocks are inanimate and yet continue to exist
"Rocks" are not lifeforms, so have no inherent purpose.
>>823718
It's just biology. Why do we feel pleasure and pain?
Why are all animals inclined to sexual reproduction? It's obvious.
>>823720
The purpose of a thing is its final cause; its end.
The ends of animals is to sexually reproduce.
>>823723
>why
As I explained, the "why" is in the pleasure and pain signal.
Why do we do things? Rationally, to avoid pain and increase pleasure.
>>823734
Do we not simply say that they are inducing a long-term satisfaction?
Like orgasmic climax, one builds up tension so as to release it. If a mountain climber didn't have his climax by completing the task, the process would be meaningless. So, purpose has this sexual shape.
>>823754
Those who are most genetically alike care more about their specific replication.

>>823754
>>823809
>The meaning of life is actually perpetuation of one's species, not simply passing down your genes (it's part of it but not the whole).
Sounds fashy. Culture and recreation exists you know? Sid's hot in and of, end of.

>The purpose of a thing is its final cause; its end.

Fash as fuck.

>>823815
>Culture and recreation
When male birds dance for females, this is for the end of sex.
Our culture concerns sexual strategy of mating in the same way.
All centres of artistic creation are also infused with sexual selection.
Watch how human females sexually select males in this video.
>purpose
Read the dictionary definition of purpose:
<the reason something is done or used […] the feeling of being determined to do or achieve something […] the aim or goal of a person
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/purpose
All of this concerns the ends of a thing.

"the purpose of life is to live" is tautology, not a real answer, but the question itself is flawed.
purpose isn't real, it's a manmade concept that we try to force onto nature. nothing has a purpose, the world exists for itself defying all of our wishes.

>>823817
>When male birds dance for females, this is for the end of sex.
>All centres of artistic creation are also infused with sexual selection.
They themselves do it out of desire and instinct. You know that it's part of reproduction because you're looking at them and you're comparing them to what you know about life and other lifeforms. Purpose only applies if God really exists. Does he? Could he be in the white strip in the middle of the flag? >>823228

I didn't expect you here. Does purpose have to be manmade and not real?

>>823817
Is this AI? I can't tell anymore. My brain is busted. Anyway, they could save some time with this method (picrel).

>>823830
>They themselves do it out of desire and instinct.
Yes… which is genetically encoded for sexual reproduction.
We are also animals with sexual selection strategies.
>Purpose only applies if God really exists
What is this ridiculous non-sequitir?
>>823831
>AI
No, it's a well-documented ritual.

>>823832
>What is this ridiculous non-sequitir?
Purpose applies to willed things because it implies any or some of the following
<reason
<feeling
<determination
<achievement
<aim
<goal
from your dictionary definition. Person was also mentioned there.

You need some cosmic will to be able to say that life has a purpose. Otherwise, life just exists and reproduces without purpose. That cosmic will is God to most people.

This

>>823835
>You need some cosmic will to be able to say that life has a purpose.
No you don't.
You are just appealing to theism for no apparent reason.

>>823830
purpose, justice, beginning, none of those concepts exist in the natural world, which always causes frustration to us humans who believe our way of understanding the world to be universal.

>>823842
>No you don't.
>You are just appealing to theism for no apparent reason.
No, it's in the meaning of purpose. The purpose of life to the anon >>823832 is reproduction because they're comparing lifeforms and that's a subjective observation. To have an objective purpose for life, you need it's creator to tell you why they made it or some other being that somehow knows it to tell you. I'm not trying to prove any religion out there. I'm just saying that you need will to have a purpose and if there is no creator or some wise outside observer then there is no purpose.

The women in the OP are objectively beautiful, and while there is nuance, there is no argument about that at all.

>>823734
>does that mean rocks have no purpose?
Who knows? Maybe they were put there on purpose.

>>823862
>purpose, justice, beginning, none of those concepts exist in the natural world, which always causes frustration to us humans who believe our way of understanding the world to be universal.
What do you think about aesthetics?

>Poll: What is the meaning of life?
There's no such thing

>>823863
>meaning
Right, which I have explained. The reason *why* we do things is to avoid pain and to increase pleasure - based on genetic programming.
>you need will
All life has willfulness. That's what makes it life.

fun fact: asking "what is the meaning of life?" is a uniquely westoid phenomenon. most people in the world think of existence as a process to be experienced and would find such a question completely baffling and absurd. it is only the imperialist god-complex psychopath westoids who think of existence as a code to be unraveled so that they may understand it and therefore control it and rewrite it and rule it.

>>823978
>fun fact: asking "what is the meaning of life?" is a uniquely westoid phenomenon.
Get out of the basement

>>823978
you are retarded, man always wants knowledge when he has a full belly and has had sex one or 2 times, the process every human takes is

>damn I'm hungry let me get some food

>ok I just ate now my dick is hard??? let me get some pussy
>damn that was nice, now my head is clear, let me create art or think about weird shit and philosophy

people don't think or create art because they are tired from work or stressed about bills, or maybe spend too much time having sex and drinking

if the meaning of life is to have a good time then 99% of the population should kill themselves, therefore I can't be that

>>823663
>nuance
Intellectually stimulating thought

>>823993
Doesn't sound like a good time to me

>>823993
>if the meaning of life is to have a good time then 99% of the population should kill themselves, therefore I can't be that
You've conflated the meaning of existence with the meaning of life. The second might not have a meaning but having a good time does make sense as the meaning of existence. Both of these threads are then necessary questions >>823228 and >>821926

>>824060
>Doesn't sound like a good time to me
Things that don't exist can't have a bad time. Anon is 100% right on this one.

>>823656

>plastic
No, because I'm a bit of a connoisseur of boobs and I'm preferential
