Trump is basically playing chicken with the rest of the world. He is saying "see what happens when there isn't a global power able to protect shipping routes". Of course it's true that it's the US that started this crisis in the first place, but his point remains. Either NATO countries and other neutral and/or aligned countries like Japan/SK/India/Australia/Indonesia/Brazil etc put pressure on Iran, or the whole planet goes into the worst economic depression in history.
The other countries, for the most part, are playing chicken just as well, either by staying silent or openly criticizing the war, but most of all, by not using applying military or economic pressure on Iran.
However, like all games of chicken, eventually someone has to blink. And it's the US that can quite obviously last the longest. It produces most of its oil and now also has Venezuelas oil at its disposal. Other countries face not just oil shortage, but also fertilizer shortage.
This is honestly a brilliant move from the Trump administration. This is the kind of genius Machiavellian geopolitics that will be talked about for centuries to come.
