a vpn just reroute your traffic through a third party, the problem is then the trust you have in that third party (which if you're a terrorist hunted by US intelligence agencies, I wouldnt put too much faith in them)
tor use a bunch of random hops across "nodes" for your traffic, the problem being that if someone (say, an US intelligence agency) control enough of the nodes and monitor enough of the traffic, they can still manage to find you (but the cost of doing so is supposedly a lot bigger and harder than just forcing a VPN provider to give its log related to a specific user)
in all cases, theres no magic solution making you invulnerable, but for random internet shitposting, its typically not worth it to try and find you and so a basic ass vpn is plenty (and I'd even argue, nothing at all is really necessary if you're not living in the US, and even then, I dont know of any leftypol user that got into trouble for posting here, we're likely too small and inconsequential to bother to go after as long as the servers arent in the US)
