<Between capitalist and communist society there lies the period of the revolutionary transformation of the one into the other. Corresponding to this is also a political transition period in which the state can be nothing but the revolutionary dictatorship of the proletariat.

I don’t see the word “socialism” in your source.

<To my mind, the so-called “socialist society” is not anything immutable. Like all other social formations, it should be conceived in a state of constant flux and change. Its crucial difference from the present order consists naturally in production organized on the basis of common ownership by the nation of all means of production. To begin this reorganization tomorrow, but performing it gradually, seems to me quite feasible. That our workers are capable of it is borne out by their many producer and consumer cooperatives which, whenever they're not deliberately ruined by the police, are equally well and far more honestly run than the bourgeois stock companies.

>An inevitable and natural step, I have said—and I hasten to make the reservation: if only we do not permit ourselves to depart by a single step from the impending and pressing task of assisting these masses, who have already begun to rise, to act more boldly and concertedly; of giving them not a couple but dozens of open-air speakers and leaders; of creating a real, militant organisation capable of guiding the masses, and not a so-called “combat organisation” that guides elusive individuals (if it does guide them at all). That this is a difficult task goes without saying, but we can quite justifiably adapt Marx’s words which have so frequently and so ineptly been quoted of late, and say: “Every step of real movement is more important than a dozen” individual attempts and cases of resistance, more important than a hundred organisations and “parties” belonging only to the intelligentsia.
https://www.marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1902/dec/01.htm

>But that is not all. Oppression alone, no matter how great, does not always give rise to a revolutionary situation in a country. In most cases it is not enough for revolution that the lower classes should not want to live in the old way. It is also necessary that the upper classes should be unable to rule and govern in the old way.

>The working class draws into revolutionary action the masses of the working and exploited people, who are deprived of basic rights and driven to despair. The working class teaches them revolutionary struggle, trains them for revolutionary action, and explains to them where to find the way out and how to attain salvation. The working class teaches them, not merely by words, but by deeds, by example, and the example is provided not by the adventures of solitary heroes but by mass revolutionary action combining political and economic demands.

https://www.marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1913/jun/15.htm

mass revolutionary action. no participation of the masses = no revolution. to believe otherwise is a Blanquist delusion. and lenin was saying this when the tsarist empires proletarian population stood at 4% of the total

1847 Marx and Engels did distinguish between Communism and Socialism, but by the end of Engels's life had changed "branding" a bit and started using the term "scientific socialism" to distinguish communism from utopian socialism

>>2858376
Ooh spooky, Engels, whatever shall I do? Oh yeah, I’ll just post this:

<How do communists differ from socialists?

<The so-called socialists are divided into three categories.

[ Reactionary Socialists: ]

<The first category consists of adherents of a feudal and patriarchal society which has already been destroyed, and is still daily being destroyed, by big industry and world trade and their creation, bourgeois society. This category concludes, from the evils of existing society, that feudal and patriarchal society must be restored because it was free of such evils. In one way or another, all their proposals are directed to this end.

<This category of reactionary socialists, for all their seeming partisanship and their scalding tears for the misery of the proletariat, is nevertheless energetically opposed by the communists for the following reasons:
<(i) It strives for something which is entirely impossible.
<(ii) It seeks to establish the rule of the aristocracy, the guildmasters, the small producers, and their retinue of absolute or feudal monarchs, officials, soldiers, and priests – a society which was, to be sure, free of the evils of present-day society but which brought it at least as many evils without even offering to the oppressed workers the prospect of liberation through a communist revolution.
<(iii) As soon as the proletariat becomes revolutionary and communist, these reactionary socialists show their true colors by immediately making common cause with the bourgeoisie against the proletarians.

[ Bourgeois Socialists: ]

<The second category consists of adherents of present-day society who have been frightened for its future by the evils to which it necessarily gives rise. What they want, therefore, is to maintain this society while getting rid of the evils which are an inherent part of it.

<To this end, some propose mere welfare measures – while others come forward with grandiose systems of reform which, under the pretense of re-organizing society, are in fact intended to preserve the foundations, and hence the life, of existing society.
<Communists must unremittingly struggle against these bourgeois socialists because they work for the enemies of communists and protect the society which communists aim to overthrow.

[ Democratic Socialists: ]

<Finally, the third category consists of democratic socialists who favor some of the same measures the communists advocate, as described in Question 18, not as part of the transition to communism, however, but as measures which they believe will be sufficient to abolish the misery and evils of present-day society.

<These democratic socialists are either proletarians who are not yet sufficiently clear about the conditions of the liberation of their class, or they are representatives of the petty bourgeoisie, a class which, prior to the achievement of democracy and the socialist measures to which it gives rise, has many interests in common with the proletariat.
<It follows that, in moments of action, the communists will have to come to an understanding with these democratic socialists, and in general to follow as far as possible a common policy with them – provided that these socialists do not enter into the service of the ruling bourgeoisie and attack the communists.
<It is clear that this form of co-operation in action does not exclude the discussion of differences.
https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/11/prin-com.htm
Socialist and Socialism became dirtied words after they were stolen by liberals, so Engels pivoted strictly to the usage of communist instead, and gave further elaboration on the types of “socialists” to be wary of, as you can see above (I am not done).

>>2858391
>Marx
Has never distinguished the word “socialism” from communism. Engels only distinguished the word later, and even then acknowledges it as stolen.
>>2858377
I am just pointing that what had provided did not back up what you said.

Don’t care. Didn’t ask. Plus you’re a dweeb.

>>2858376
Secondly, let's address the very beginning of your post (without having to worry about word limit).
<the so-called “socialist society
So-called socialist society. Not socialist society, so-called socialist society. That is the exact words he has said. And with the added previous context, you now know exactly what he means.

>>2858383
I lol'd. I am roasting like Texas bbq

>>2858382
but it's a piece of shit when we argue endlessly.

>>2858381
I've read some Lenin in my time back on marxist.org when I had a ton of time. Was not lenin himself referred to as a blanquist by 1917? Do we also agree that bu then the industrial proletariat had roughly doubled or tripled in size? Of course the peasantry was needed… and I like to keep in mind the originary meaning of the term prole, those who by birthing provide the raw material for society. Simply to say they're not just someone in a factory.

personally, I have a lot of sympathy for Blanqui/sm, and think that (specifically if applying to today) Lenin is overreaching in his adaptation of Marx here. by setting up a hard opposition between the individuals and the masses, the leninists act like the police (not just of the movement but of society) and negate every real intensity that may BECOME something else simply because it IS not already developed.

I believe we are at such an ebb point that one individual action of audacity is worth a thousand times all the bandwidth and server cost and effortposts of this website, inasmuch as people here have any notion of participting in historic change and have done literally nothing. I am not trying to rage bait or talk down on anyone here because I don't know you. What I'm trying to say is that we are at this stage of real political atomization that individual actions are like Hegel's abstract Being. I believe there is a dialectical resolution to this problem where we can start from where we really are and come together and organize from there. to finish and to try to be really clear, I do not think parties should denounce individual 'initiative' nor try to coopt or represent it. on the other hand, they should not preach it either and instead be the most conscious element of the movement by keeping the endgame in mind

>>2858401
90% of leftypol 12 year olds believe this too

>>2858409
Entropy is neither sapient nor truly dedicated to the communist movement.

no. his writings up until the coup always reflected the need for broad popular support for any power grab could succeed. even when the masses rose up themselves spontaneously in the July Days crisis and demanded the bolsheviks take action he hesitated. he was always noting of the danger of the masses outpacing the parties in action

Unlike your friend, you're just too much of a coward to do anything about it.
