The state of Texas alone has 31 million people compared to Canada's 31 million total. Assuming that Canadians were even allowed to vote, flooding the new Canadian territories with Southern republican carpet baggers would be a pretty effective way of neutralizing whatever "blue" influence Canada would have, especially as climate change makes the south and western part of the US more untenable.
