Why isn't the invasion of manchuria ever talked about?
It's easily in the running for one of the greatest feats of warfare ever executed as it was instrumental in the Japanese surrender, yet overshadowed by the enola gay.

Looks pretty good, thanks dude
Posting for everyone else

I mean, yea, that was quite an impressive feat of the red army, and the reason why the japanese surrendered.
But the Enola gay and the other nuke were fucking nukes, the literal two times were nuclear weapons were used. Like, I know it isn't that fair, but the nukes is possibly the more destructive thing ever made and they were dropped unto the civilian population destroying an entire city with just one bomb.
I mean, you could talk about how the dinosaurs became extinc because of their monstrous size requiring tons of food and so on and that we're destined to become extinct sooner or later, but people talk about the meteorite because it was a fucking meteorite.

Also it might be the reason why there aren't any alien civilizations out there, since the earliest space opera technology bullshit available to civilizations are literally nukes with the power to destroy civilization.

>>1315
Japanese sent surrender requests mutliple times before the nukes were dropped, the firebombing of Tokyo and other cities were way more devastating than the nuclear bombs when it came to civilian casualties.

The bombs were dropped so the US military could use their new toy they wasted so much budget on. Could you imagine the embarassment? Japan gains a conditional surrender and the whole Manhattan project was just a gigantic waste of money? It's worse when you consider the Japanese surrender terms, which are the same that the US occupation authorities granted to Japan, which were:

Let the emperor stay as ceremonial head of state,
Let the Japanese war criminals off the hook and
Accept Japanese overseas claims on some islands

Then there was the problem that the US had only fissile material for only three bombs, only uranium and two plutonium, and all three were used in the end, one test and two detonations over civilian cities with no military importance, which shows that it was rushed to be used.

Thankfully the Soviets finished their invasion of Manchuria at that point, or else there would've been an American occupied northeastern China in the worst case or the whole Korean peninsula under US hegemony.

Talking about the Soviets, the bombs were also used as a threat against them, in a grand showcase that the psychopathic US was ready to mass murder their enemies and poison the land with fallout for millions of years to come.

Your other point about the Fermi Paradox, it's more likely that we are the first, there is a serious lack of radio waves trashing through the universe, but nukes are a dangerous great filter. Let's see if the USA can step down without taking the whole world with them.

Is an AR-15 the best rifle to get if you're looking to arm yourself? I know it's incredibly popular in the US, but I'm not sure how much of that is just people trying to operator larp.

Pros:
- Cheap ammo
- Ample parts
- Easy to use

Cons:
- Complex
- Low powered round
- High-profile sights

AFAIK the SRA still doesn't have that kind of influence, unfortunately. The one gunshow I went to didn't really have any good deals, and from what I've heard, you're probably better off vising a gun store. Did have a fair selection though.

asked in a different thread, but might not get seen so: i intend to complete my higher education, but after that, is it worthwhile to consider the military or at least go into military reserves? i doubt i can give myself a truly equivalent training or mindset and i cant see any other way to give myself adequate, if albeit in all likelihood unnecessary, preparation

Their ears would certainly be ringing

It can certainly kill in one shot if the bullet hits the heart or central nervous system

Ranger body armor vests for armor and these two items for rigs:

Yep, /k/ really is in the dumpster

As an aside, Lazerpig made the following assertions (among others), that I found particularly stupifyingly idiotic
1 - The Armata's engine is the Porsche-Tiger engine
2 - the T-72 uses the same V2 as the T-34

Both demonstrate and prove that Lazerswine not only doesn't know what he's on about, but that he also can't be bothered to research properly.

The narrative of the V-2 being from the T-34 is a mistranslation of Russian statements, which speak of the reliability of the design and that the T-72s V2 uses the same V2 set up. The very fact that the transmission and placement of the engine is completely different doesn't cross this moron's mind. A /k/ anon brought up a very good analogy: It’s like trying to say the 2023 Corvette engine is made from the same V8 engine Chevy made in the 1950’s. Engine evolution is slow and builds upon the previous generation. Chamber shaped differently here, block casting methods there, till eventually it doesn’t share a single part from the original engine.

The apache is an overpriced piece of crap and the Iraqi insurgency regularly downed them with improvised weapons and kalashnikovs. Don't buy into the military-industrial complex propaganda.

>In 2003, the AH-64 participated in the invasion of Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. On 24 March 2003, 31 Apaches were damaged; one was shot down in an unsuccessful attack on an Iraqi Republican Guard armored brigade near Karbala. Iraqi tank crews had set up a "flak trap" among terrain and effectively employed their guns. Iraqi officials claimed a farmer with a Brno rifle shot down the Apache, but the farmer denied involvement. The AH-64 came down intact and the crew were captured; it was destroyed via air strike the following day. This incident had significant consequences for the AH-64 helicopter because it revealed an important vulnerability. Despite being considered by army aviators as flying tanks at the time, it became clear that the AH-64 was actually highly susceptible to rifle fire. As a result, the army quietly disclosed in early 2006 that AH-64s would no longer have a major role in carrying out attacks deep inside enemy lines.

>By the end of U.S. military operations in Iraq in December 2011, several Apaches had been shot down by enemy fire and lost in accidents. In 2006, an Apache was downed by a Soviet-made Strela 2 (SA-7) in Iraq, despite it being typically able to avoid such missiles. In 2007, four Apaches were destroyed on the ground by insurgent mortar fire using web-published geotagged photographs taken by soldiers.

The point of the hybrid case technology is that it allows for significantly higher chamber pressures compared to all-brass casings

How useful are handguns for war, revolution, personal protection, or in general? Why do soldiers in militaries even have handguns if they already have rifles which are better?

>>3681
So you're not completely defenceless if your rifle fucks up?

Revolvers seem simpler to maintain

>>3683
Revolvers are also more flexible with the ammo you can use because an automatic needs the gunpowder to fall within a certain range of energy to properly knock the slide back and eject the casing. Can the ammo fit into a revolver's cylinder? Then it's probably gonna work. Not so with automatics.

This may be important in any kind of scavenging or guerilla warfar situation.

>>3684
thats true but autoloaders have more capacity which is the main advantage.

Turkish/Brazilian import guns are usually pretty cheap and reliabile

They have almost no effective range, get a rifle or die like a palestinian

This man speaks the truth. Although if you are going to get a cheap dot, please at least get a nicer one like a Holosun or something. There's no point buying an actual airsoft red dot because it's going to cost you at least a hundred bucks to get your slide milled for an optic regardless so you're not saving that much proportionate to the total cost.

Imperial guns don’t function like guns, they’re products meant to arbitrarily increase consumption rates and it shows in how they’re designed. Ironically enough having so many attachments to such a basic as shit rifle only makes it harder for any trained shooter to use the damn thing without damaging any of its pointless features, especially when in firefights. Meanwhile guns from decades ago still function just fine along with vehicles. Really makes you recognize the importance of drones, surveillance and hit and run tactics in modern warfare.

I don't know if the man holding the gun is a real spec ops or a cosplayer with too much money burning his hands, but that config is pretty sensible. A compact gun in .300BLK is roughly analogous to Soviet AS Val and is intended for short-range CT/SWAT/sabotage-reconnaissance work, where typical contact distance is 2 to 150 m and user is expected to fight both outdoors and indoors. Flashlight is for indoors combat, its utility is threefold: it lights some dark hallway, as expected, it dazzles the opponent, and it serves as ultra close range laser sight, central brighter spot in the beam showing point of aim.

Attached is AS Val of Russian internal forces specnaz operator known as k-a-r-d-e-n ( https://k-a-r-d-e-n.livejournal.com/ )

It should be noted you NEVER use a flashlight during the night. It is a homing beacon for enemy fire, your team will be instantly unmasked and hosed with all the firepower enemy got.

>>3820
>Moreover in the OP pic it's glaring hot sunlight, yet the fucker has a flashlight mounted when all it serves is to unbalance the gun, since you don't need the flashlight in the open fucking desert in daytime. or whatever open space we're seeing here.
It's really more trouble than it's worth to be detaching and reattaching a flashlight to a gun

>>3820
>the scope
What scope are you talking about?

>>3821
>I don't know if the man holding the gun is a real spec ops or a cosplayer with too much money burning his hands
He used to be a SERE instructor for the Air Force, but now he's pretty much become a cosplayer

>>3923
You're right, I was using incorrect termnology; it's an optical sight with some magnification.
