Did the historical Jesus Christ ever exist?
Good book on Jesus’ historicity, analysing not just every argument on the historical Christ but also giving a holistic assessment on how Christianity likely came to be, with a vigorous reference section. - Adam Green’s background doesn’t invalidate his broader points on Christianity, the Bible, and Jesus Christ’s existence
- The “consensus” doesn’t mean much since it’s mostly made up of Christians and Christian-sympathisers who engage in confirmation bias and gatekeeping to discourage any critical opinion on the historical Christ theory. Given that Ehrman himself relies on this very unreliable consensus for his book on Jesus’ historicity
- Not believing in Jesus’ existence as a historical figure isn’t anti-Christian as many non-mainstream Christian sects like the early Church-era marcionites and gnostics assert the notion of a mythical non-physical Christ. On the top of that, much of Judaism (and by extension Zionism) rests on the notion of the Old Testament as being 100% true and historically accurate text, whilst Islamic doctrine holds the existence of a historical Christ. So by negating the existence of a historical Christ, and by extension undermining the value of the Old Testament as a historical text, Christianity and Islam and Judaism are effectively undermined
- There’s no evidence for the existence of Christ dating back to when he was canonically alive. Every alleged proof for his existence as a historical figure date back to decades and even centuries after his death.
- There’s no mention of a Jesus Christ being crucified in any surviving Roman documents.
- There’s far and few in-between evidence attesting to Jesus’ existence beyond the gospels, which are themselves unreliable and of dubious historicity as pointed out by Russell Gmirkin and Robert M Price.
- Among the non-Christian sources, none of them are contemporary to the canonical Christ’s lifetime (i.e., the 1st century) despite Jewish concerns at the time being well-documented. And of the ones that exist, most either repeat earlier hearsays about Christ without actually investigating them (e.g., Tacitus and Pliny the younger), ambiguous and subject to heavy debates (e.g., Lucian and Suetonius) or outright forgeries whose veracity rests on Christian interpolation (e..g., Josephus’ passage). But the thing is, all of them either never tried to prove the hearsays in 1st century AD Judea, or were born after Christ’s canonical death (which for the record, was determined centuries after his death, with early Christians themselves disagreeing on when he was born and died), so they aren’t even contemporary sources at all, let alone independent ones, especially as by the time Tacitus and Josephus wrote about Christ he was already dead by then + the gospels were already spreading.
- There are no Roman records that mention Jesus. Not only all that, but, there are no Christian eye-witnesses of Jesus. All of the Gospels are anonymous and written by friends-of-friends, and none are written in the first person; also, Paul (who authored 13 of the 27 books of the NT) never met Jesus, except in a vision. They're also written in very competent Greek (the language of later converts), rather than in Hebrew (the language of the original converts, excepting Paul).
- Going back to the gospels, they are just fictional tales derived from the Old Testament authored by many people throughout history. The Dead Sea Scrolls and other manuscripts don’t necessarily prove the historicity of the gospels nor that there was just one author, at best it only proves that said tales were already in wide circulation, especially as there’s no evidence of a complete Bible contemporary to Christ’s lifetime. Unless you believe in the resurrection and the miracles and the existence of the biblical floods and the GIGANTIC kingdoms of Israel and that of King Solomon, then the gospels themselves become unreliable as proofs for Christ’s existence as a historical figure.

He rambles on a lot and talks about shit no one cares about, but some of Marx's family ties to European nobility does make me wonder if many of the people we trust and care about aren't actually who they appear as. Should Marxists accept the “Black Egypt” theory?

I like to think it exists or not rule it out. It gives my life more meaning to believe in it.
I like to "collect" good karma sometimes by doing little good things or I think of karma sometimes when I do them in everyday life. Don't get me wrong. I'm not an especially good person. I have been working hard on myself in the last couple of months though.
One thought I had recently that felt very good is that I can quickly gain good karma if I want to by not only treating others well or fairly but also by treating myself well. I'm someone. My needs have to be taken care of. Doing that job and doing right by myself is a good deed. It should align with the rules of karma especially when self-care requires effort sometimes. This helps me trick self-neglect sometimes. I wanna practice such thoughts more.

My superpower has always been massive luck. It’s frustrating because it gets addictive, having lucky shit happen to you. So you want to start counting on it and eventually you do until that stops working for some reason and back to the drawing board. Seems like realizing you’re a lucky person is the end of the line for a lot of people’s luck but I worked on it. For me it comes down to a combination of two things, being lucky more often
firstly, luck requires the perfect fusion of caring a lot and not giving a fuck. It’s sort of like when you approach a cat you want to pick up, but you have to mask your intention to pick up the cat or otherwise it will run off. Sort of. Luck doesn’t notice you or anything. It just won’t show up if you care too much or too little
secondly, intentionally increase your count of chance based events each day. Like getting more rolls in a video game. This feels like a risk because it is. Luck can’t help you while you sit in your bedroom. I mean, imagine the amount of luck it would take to meet a qt gf sitting in your bedroom. She’d have to fall through the ceiling. If you just go outside and take a walk, the amount of luck required to help you out decreases massively. Also the walk is a roll for chance based events.
It’s worked for me my entire life on these two principles.
Further, it’s usually less helpful to try to make something lucky happen directly than it is to remove the elements which make the lucky thing less likely to happen. You don’t want to be “asking” for a massive windfall of luck. Those’ll come but it’s not helpful to count on. You want to have all your ducks in a row such that you’re only needing that last little bit as luck. Always set it up so that you need the minimum amount of luck to be successful, even if you’re planning to be lucky from the start.
I read some studies before about how there's a genetic component to luck - behavioral predispositions for strategy and risk mitigation. More boring, not as mystical, but I think the anons in this thread are onto something.
These aforementioned things also help with the defensive side of luck, crisis management. It's important to maintain the blessings you have.

Humanity might finally see itself as one among many, not the center, thus all anthropocentric unfounded beliefs will be challenged, they already feel threatened as many believers already are referring to aliens as "demons" without ever having truly encountered them.

What was the motive behind Israel attacking the USS Liberty?
For context in 1967 during the 6-day-war the Zionist regime bombed an American battle ship called the USS Liberty killing 34 American crew members. I'm not the biggest fan of how drugs and things of that sort are often uncritically idealized among "leftist" spaces. Now, don't get me wrong; I'm not some kind of puritan who wants to ban all drugs or weed or something. After all, the america's war on drugs shows that total prohibition brute force is often counterproductive and often built on misinformation, but it's not like drugs are an inherently liberatory thing. Hasn't it been well-documented how often reactionary forces weaponize drugs to harm certain communities and peoples? What about the opium wars, where britain smuggled in tons of opium in response to being banned from getting tea to reverse a massive trade deficit caused by high demand for chinese tea, and in response to china banning opium, went to war and occupied hong kong and basically jump-started the century of humiliation? or what about the involvement of intelligence agencies? again i do not belive drugs are inherently harmful, but too many people often paint the situation with a broad brush and think it's solely black and white. >Barrett’s team is working on increasing the efficiency of their design, to produce more ionic wind with less voltage. The researchers are also hoping to increase the design’s thrust density — the amount of thrust generated per unit area. Currently, flying the team’s lightweight plane requires a large area of electrodes, which essentially makes up the plane’s propulsion system. Ideally, Barrett would like to design an aircraft with no visible propulsion system or separate controls surfaces such as rudders and elevators.
>“It took a long time to get here,” Barrett says. “Going from the basic principle to something that actually flies was a long journey of characterizing the physics, then coming up with the design and making it work. Now the possibilities for this kind of propulsion system are viable.”

What made Soviet intelligence so good at subverting and infiltrating every fucking organization on this planet?
I think for awhile they could recruit intelligent people who were also idealistic about communism which is international in scope. It wasn't just about money or whatever (and they didn't have any money). Bolsheviks were also by nature conspiratorial and believed in combining both "legal" and "illegal" methods for the pursuit of their aims which developed out of the conditions of pre-Soviet Russia. Their strategy was a kind of dual-power seeking where they'd target non-communist groups (which may not have been previously considered as vectors for political activity, like theatre groups or whatever) for infiltration and subversion. Cadres are basically like agents who get inside other groups and try to maneuver them in some kind of way rather than the Communist Party showing up and being like "we're here now!" That's more like after a coup d'etat led by communist infiltrated organizations including the military.
