This thread is dedicated to the people on this site who play instruments for fun or dollars. Talk about your setup, songs you like playing, techniques, performance. Today I'm with my Fender Player Precision tryna figure out some Geddy Lee bass lines.

i also want to learn how to sing good, but my main problem is singing out of tune and i need help on that

>I dont want to do dumb lip trills that dont teach you shit.
Singers go brrrrr…

Have a crack at this anons
It'll make you feel great. Especially you VolCels, it'll make you feel like a monk singing to the angels.

God damn, I've been hanging out in siberia, didn't even notice this board.

My setup is weird now. I got a resonator back in 2013, and played it straight for the longest time. Then later I attached a decent piezo and started running it through a delay pedal with slight distortion so I could play with a rock drummer without being too quiet. I really love the sound, but I don't really play out right now - I was really depressed before the last couple years, but 2020 destroyed the band we built… and I hadn't been playing out for years before that. It seems like this happens any time I get a group together and start booking shows, if it's not one thing it's another.

We were always mostly originals, and the cover songs I throw into sets are usually either niche or unusual versions of popular songs.

Attached is a clip from a bar set in 2019 we played as a duo. We're covering James Brown's "It's a Man's Man's Man's Man's World."

Hi, over a year late, but I can help you if you're still here.

The essence of Boomer rock is simple in it's content. Catchy riffs, guitar solos, screaming singers, and long hair. It was the ruling ideology that considered them a danger to the youth, and opened the door for more edgy and arguably harmful music in the future, not the bands themselves. The satanic imagery was just for record sales, and not intended to do anything but make more money. It was the ruling class' puritanism that blew the doors open for future harmful musical acts like NWA and 2 Live Crew. The ruling class showed them that having an explicit Parental Advisory warning on the album was good for business.

Prior to the British invasion, the main rock bands of the time involved a single frontman, e.g. Elvis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, etc, while the rest of the band were just background members providing accompaniment.
However, when the Beatles started becoming popular, they showed the English speaking world that being a rock band didn't just mean getting underpaid and underexposed, all 4 of the Beatles were getting popularity.
Every Beatle had a cult of teenage girls wishing to have babies with them, every Beatle could be recognized in public and start a mini riot just by virtue of being in a popular rock band.

Clearly, this was highly influential on the future of rock music. Every musician that grew up in this era of the late 50s and early 60s saw this as an opportunity. Even if they didn't like the lovey dovey music the boy band was making, they saw the material gains and influence of the format. Other English bands started imitating the format, and developing their own style.

Bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, all copied the format of the Beatles, but developed their own tone. Drums, bass, lead guitar (and solos), and finally lyrics. Every member had a purpose, every member had an instrument. As technology progressed, they started adding on-the-fly distortions, through guitar pedals.

A major theme of Boomer rock is the lyrical content. Bands leaned heavily into sex, drugs, and living fast. This can be seen as a reaction to the Vietnam war, as a reaction to the ruling ideology of old white puritan politicians and their incessant need to remind everyone younger how good they have it compared to their youth. It is ironic that these same boomers are now in power, and are almost indistinguishable from their predecessors.

Let us not foget the emerging punk movement from the 70s and 80s

this is the gayest shit i've ever read

how do late 70s bands fit into this? This describes the earlier half of the boomer generation, but what about the late 70s/early 80s boomers, the "generation jones" type people? Prog rock like Rush, Yes, etc., Punk Rock, black flag, the clash, and middle/popish rock like Foreigner?

do you rock out with your cock out?

Original Hound Dog vs Elvis Hound Dog?

I like the elvis one, the og is good too but I always liked the aggressive, fast machoness of the song

As it says on the tin, post songs that you have recently found. Obscure stuff is preferred but really anything goes I suppose.

Found this while I was looking around at some Russian movies on Youtube hoping to find some communist shit to make memes from.
Pretty chill and somber.

Love Like Blood has nothing to do with communism bro what are you on about?

Parody heavy metal band from Spain with lyrics constantly shitting on PMCs, something all metal should do tbh. They also seem to like Marx.

>parody metal bands who just sing some vague, basic shit about international politics and their fans think it's the most hilarious and clever thing ever
Such as?

I like this song tho

But Nanowar don't really make political satire.

Yeah, I also like a bunch of their songs

I know, but I'm talking about these songs
